This patent covers the apparatus and methodof transmitting satellite positioning system signals (suchas GPS, and any other satellite-based navigation network)over a cellular network to a base unit. This patent, validuntil the year 2011, was re-examined in 1994 (re-examination certificate # B1 5,043,736).

PowerLOC's 3-tier architecture provides: (1) proprietarylocation-enabled mobile wireless devices known asMobiles, (2) a carrier grade, reliable, and scalable locationserver (L-BizTM) also known as a Tracker Server, and (3)customized web-enabled client software for the specificapplications.

The Tracker is a reliable and powerful serversystem capable of managing communicationswith up to hundreds of thousands of L-BizTM

mobiles of any type, while at the same time allow Internetaccess to their mobiles by thousands of clients. The Trackersoftware is implement fully in JavaTM and the applications arewritten in XML providing for industry standards and securecommunications over the Internet.

Trackers act as the wireless gateways, communicate bi-directionally and simultaneously with mobiles throughmultiple disparate wireless networks. They support severaltypes of location technologies, not only GPS but also Cell-ID,Cell Sector and others. The modular software architecture comprises several software“engines” including database, mapping, location business and profile, client interface andbilling. There is also an XML gateway to external systems for customized applications.

This software allows customers to view the location oftheir devices on a map, to capture that status of thedevice, activate any of the programmable outputs andsend text messages to a display attached to the mobile.This software can be hosted on almost any computerwith web access. Through it, users can control theirmobiles, set and even change parameters under whichthe mobiles report at will.

Multiple Mobile ClientThis version consists of a fleet management view and allowsmonitoring of any number of mobiles on a single client view.
