MEDIA EVALUATION - QUESTION 2

How effective is the combination of your music video and ancillary

texts?

So, why teddy bears?

We chose to create a music video with teddy bears for a comedic factor alone. However, after a bit of thought, a storyline started to merge with the comedy and before we knew it, we had a solid idea.

One thing we looked for when watching artists music videos was how memorable they were. Videos such as; Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ and Nickelback’s ‘Rock Star’

What about teddy bears on the Poster and Digipak?

Originally, we had the idea of including images of teddy bears within our poster and digipak. This was until we realised that having the bears on all forms of media would take away from the artists original image. This song being a single, and the poster and digipak advertising the album as a whole, it made sense to keep the theme of the video different to the theme of the poster and digipak.

This has been done before by major artists, such as Michael Jackson. The artwork on his album ‘Thriller’ had no themes related to the music video for ’Thriller’.

The Colour Scheme

Both the digipak and poster have black backgrounds because as we created it, we remembered that from looking at other country albums, the artists name and logo was more prominent and important that the image.

With this in mind we knew that having a simple black background would compliment and highlight all the text that we put on.

The logo

Brantley Gilbert’s logo was one of the key features of our digipak and poster. Since this is what best represents him as an artists, we made sure it was the centre of the attention.

As well as his full name logo, he has a small symbol that appears to be a B and G merged together, which are the two letters that start his name. This logo is incorporated onto his iconic that he wears at every show, so we decided to include it on the inside cover.

The Font

We decided to keep the font consist throughout, so that it would further enable the audience to make a connection between the two forms of media and associate it with the artist

Brantley Gilbert as a brand…

Brantley Gilbert is an already existing country powerhouse brand. He has his own store where he sells the usual merchandise but also hot pants and hip flasks.
