T r i c k o r T r e a t Those looking for special bargains and unique holiday gift items will have the perfect opportunity during the 3 rd Annual Holiday in Haywood 3-day shopping mart planned for November 12-14, in Brownsville. “Holiday in Haywood” will feature over 20 retail and specialty merchants all under one roof and offering a variety of items perfect for your holiday gift giving. The event will take place at the National Guard Armory located at 221 Morgan Street. New to this year’s event is the addition of live entertainment on Saturday featuring local choirs and groups singing holiday favorites. Santa will also be available from noon until 2 p.m., to hear the wishes of the children and have his picture taken with them. Families, individuals and groups are invited to have their Christmas portrait taken by a professional photographer on Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary and portraits will be available for gift giving or for holiday cards. “Last year over 1,000 people came through the doors during the three day event,” says Monica Bivens, coordinator of the event. “This year we’ve extended the hours to allow even more time for shoppers to browse and make their selections.” Doors will open Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., and again on Sunday from 12-4 p.m., giving shoppers plenty of time to make their choices. “The response from retailers has been wonderful,” explains Bivens, “and we are very confident in the variety and quality of the items that will be available.” Among the many items for sale will be collectibles, floral arrangements, designer clothing and accessories, fabrics, home décor and accessories, specialty sauces and homemade food items, woodcarvings, candles and a variety of books. There will also be a large selection of personalized gift items available. “Holiday in Haywood” is sponsored annually by the Brownsville Business Association. C.A.R.E. stands for Child Abuse Reduction Effort. The Brownsville chapter received the award for their efforts in helping with the success of the Carl Perkins Advocacy Center dinner and auction. The coveted award is only given out four times per year and this is only the third time in five years a Tennessee Club has received it. District Exchange representative Paige Mengel presented the Brownsville chapter their award last week. “I’m just so proud of our chapter, this is just fantastic,” stated Exchange member Marty Williams. “This the most coveted award for helping others. We’ve always wanted to get that award and we finally got it!” The 2010-2011 Exchange Club roster include the following members: Alan Callery, Allen Williams, Andy Wynn, Betty Scott, Betty Tindle, Cindy Smith, Gayle Williams, Hope Cannon, Jean Avery, Jim Williams, Joan and Larry Banks, Joanna Morris, Jody Lea, John and Mickey Gallaspy, Katherine Baggett, Karen McClain, Leon King, Marcina and Albert Harris, Marty Williams, Mary Beth and Freddy Smith, Melvin Bond, Nancy Cates, Pam McCarley, Patsy Mathis, Pauletta Miller, Dr. Sue McElrath, Tracy Taylor, and Willie Johnson.
