Check the daily UV level
A number of 3 and above means you need full sun protection.
Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide
Wear a long sleeved shirt or protective sun sleeves and long pants to play in. Clothing designed for golfing will keep you cool and won’t restrict movement.
Sunscreen should be applied at least 20 minutes before play, so cover any exposed skin before you leave the house. Sunscreen only protects for 2 hours so remember to pop a tube in your golf bag for later.
Grab a wide brimmed hat to protect your face, neck and ears. Choose one designed for golfing and it will stay on without a strap.
Rain or shine bring your golfing umbrella and create BYO shade! Look for a hands-free style that attaches to your golf bag to protect your skin while you walk and wait for play.
Bring sunglasses – the glare can get bad out on the course so look for a wraparound style for maximum protection.

Ensure you’re covered
If you missed applying your sunscreen at home apply a golf ball-sized amount to each exposed limb now. Don’t forget your face, ears, neck and hands. Choose a dry touch/active brand and your grip won’t get greasy.
Check that someone in your group has sunscreen with them before you head off. Have a good game!
Reapply sunscreen
The 9th tee (or roughly 2hrs in) is the perfect time to reapply your sunscreen. During the game your sunscreen can rub or sweat off and this is a good opportunity to catch any spots you may have missed earlier.
Stay shaded
Where you can, stand or walk in the shade of the trees around the course. Being a good mate and helping others find their ball in the woods is a great opportunity for getting extra shade!
If you take your hat off when you’re teeing off remember to put it back on when you head down the fairway.
