THE AAPFCO INSIDER ADDRESS FROM OUR PRESIDENT AAPFCO Newsletter I hope this note finds everyone well and the Board of Directors look forward to working with you over the next year. I would like to start out by thanking the Office of the Indiana State Chemist and Seed Commissioner for the efforts they put in for the AAPFCO annual meeting. Thanks to Dr. Waltz, Brett Groves, Matt Pearson, and the entire staff for the great location and the behind the scenes activities which are involved in putting together a meeting of this size. It is always good to put names with faces which our meetings provide twice a year. I look forward to the Mid-Year meeting in New Orleans between February 17 th and the 22 nd , 2013. On the afternoon of the 17 th the Board is planning a training session to go over facilitating a meeting and how to run a committee meeting since we have had a great number of new attendees and turnover of our committee chairs over the past few years. A Methods Forum will once again be at the end of this meeting. Please look at the website for more details (www.aapfco.org). Weldon Collier and others within the Florida Department of Agriculture are also working hard on the Annual meeting for 2013 which will be held at the Trade Winds in St. Pete Beach in August of 2013. So please mark your calendars and plan on attending, more details will be on the AAPFCO website. I would also like to thank all of the Committee Chairs, Committee Members and Industry Liaisons for their time and commitment to the organization. Without your support at the meetings and the time spent between meetings the committee objectives would not be met. At times it may feel we move at a slow pace, but we are moving forward with your help. Please contact myself or any of the Board of Directors if you have any questions about the association. If you would like to volunteer to be a committee member or an industry liaison on any of the committees please contact Joe Slater or myself and we will make it happen. I hope to see you in New Orleans in February. Sincerely, Steve McMurry AAPFCO President 1 Welcome! They will precipitate from the alkali extract in acid solutions of pH 2 or less. Thecan be used as either soil amendments, foliar applications, or blended with liquid fertilizers. (Tentative 2011) Method needed to be discussed. This definition has been around for a while prior to the requirement for a method. The method is virtually done, but not approved by Lab Services Committee yet, Committee is not in a position to base the definition solely on this. A lenoradite definition – humic acid ingredient – was forwardWeldon Collier and it has an existing method. The existing methods were ones the Lab Services Committee did not feel was applicable. (Tentative 2011) The definition of maleic-itaconic was not sufficient, another definition was submitted with efficacy data. The question of methods has come up, a method was submitted, LSC has asked for a more information. The referenced product would be with the submitted product efficacy, it would not be required to be on the label. Discussion – a working group has been meeting over the past 6 months on a revised definition. ASTM, committee comments and the European definition were all considered. Discussed what products would be included. “not regulated as a fertilizer or pesticide” was discussed – where does the line get drawn on pesticide components.
