Q: What were your study techniques you
used in college?
For me, it was about repetition. I would take
notes in class and then rewrite them to make
sure that I understood them and they were in an
order that made sense. I used a lot of flashcards
to memorize important facts and concepts. Study
groups were also very helpful. I think the main
thing is to remember that everyone learns
differently; what works for your best friend may
not work for you. Try different study techniques
and then stick with what works for you.
Q: Any suggestions for students who are
struggling in college?
Get help and get it early! CSUB is filled with
so many campus resources that many students
don't even realize are available. Visit the
tutoring centers, the Health Center, the
Counseling Center. Visit your professors during
office hours several times throughout the
quarter. Register for a Student Success
Workshop to get help with time management
and study skills. Reach out to your advisor and
visit with them frequently. Don't be afraid to ask
questions. The advisors on campus are here to
help students succeed, utilize them!

Walk-in and Appointments: www.csub.edu/wrc/Appointments
CSUB will be transitioning from quarters to semesters effective fall 2016.
It is highly recommended that all students declare a major to avoid extending
their graduation time due to curriculum changes, different requirements, etc. as
a result of the transition. If you are worried about choosing the right major, take
the SIGI 3 major/career assessment on Runnerlink for direction or you can
always schedule an appointment with your undeclared advisor at the AARC for
guidance 654-2700.
Research your desired major(s) and the related careers, select your top 3 or 5, schedule an
appointment with the department your major is housed under and seek a program overview. Come
prepared with questions so that you can feel confident about your choice. See the resources listed
below for even more assistance!
