There are three levels of the Bookkeeping qualification; introductory, intermediate and advanced. Each level is a stand alone qualification and the full three levels will give you what you need to become a professional bookkeeper. And we’ll be here to help you through your studies and support you every step of the way.

On completion of the Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping and Ethics, become an AAT Bookkeeper to gain the designatory letters AATQB. You can start your own bookkeeping practice or use these skills to progress in any organisation.

By completing AAT’s three Bookkeeping qualifications, you’ll learn everything from an introduction into the principles of manual bookkeeping and the common terminology, through to the knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping, control accounts, journals and preparing final accounts. These three levels will give you all the knowledge you need to be a qualified bookkeeper. You may then wish to progress onto bookkeeping membership to gain the designatory letters AATQB.

As an AAT Bookkeeper you’ll have the option to start your own bookkeeping practice, or use the skills and professional recognition to progress in any organisation.

The AAT Introductory Bookkeeping qualification introduces you to key single-entry manual bookkeeping skills. It allows you to move up to further study in bookkeeping, accountancy or computerised accounts.

Once you’ve completed the introductory level, you’ll be awarded the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.

The Intermediate Bookkeeping qualification develops your understanding of the bookkeeping principles to advance your career in finance. In particular how to execute the principles of double-entry bookkeeping and understanding journals, control accounts and a trial balance.

Once you’ve completed the intermediate level, you’ll be awarded the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping.

The AAT Advanced Bookkeeping qualification provides you with an advanced knowledge of accounting principles and concepts. In particular preparing financial statements for sole traders and partnerships. You’ll gain advanced spreadsheet software skills, and understand the importance of ethics and sustainability to modern businesses.

Once you’ve completed the advanced level, you’ll be awarded the AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping and Ethics and may choose to progress onwards to become an AAT Bookkeeper.
