  • Laboratoires LABEMA, created in 1989, is a family owned Company with 100% French capital, located in LORETTE 42420, between Lyon and Saint-Etienne (FRANCE).

We are specialized in the development and manufacture of liquid corrosion inhibitors mainly for water-based systems under the following brands: EMADOX®, AB-RUST®, VE-GERUST® and the latest: EMARUST® .

With the product ranges EMADOX®, AB-RUST®, EMARUST®, VEGERUST® and through an international distribution network, Laboratoires LABEMA occupy a strong position in the market of anti-corrosive addi-

tives and export a large part of their production. We are particularly involved in the paints and coa-tings industry, oils and lubricants, coolants, and we are also contacted for applications in deter-gency, temporary protection of metal systems, ...

Since July 2001, our organization meets the re-quirements of the ISO 9001 quality standard. In this context, our goal is to provide our cus-tomers with products of constant quality while keeping our flexibility and responsiveness.

We strive to also provide technical service and as-sistance to our customers and potential customers.

    Laboratoires LABEMA®

With our RCT (RUST CORROSION TESTING) department, we test :

    a) the efficiency of our anti flash-rust inhibitors accor-ding to our L-AF30 test method

    b) the corrosion resistance brought by our liquid corro-sion inhibitors according to the neutral salt spray test : standard NF ISO 9227

    c) the corrosion preventing characteristics of cooling lubricants mixed with water; chip/filter paper method : standard DIN 51360

    d) the corrosion protection of multi metal systems immersed in liquids according to our L-14415 test method

    e) the corrosion in glassware for antifreeze and coolants : standard NF R 15-602-7

To take advantage of this completely free service, sim-ply send anonymous samples of formulations that you want to test.At the end of the tests, we send a full report with our recommendations, photos and accompanied by pilot parts.

Flash-rust• Flash rust: term used in the language of painting to

describe the very fast (flash) appearance of rust spots on a metal substrate coated with a water-based paint.

    • This phenomenon occurs during the phases of application and drying.

Our additives allow, among other properties, to prevent this oxidation.

The waterborne coatings cause corrosion of the support during their period of drying, upon application on a metal surface; this being due to the presence of water.

This leads to corrosion stains on the film and can affect its cohesion and its adhesion to the support.

Anti flash-rust additives inhibit corrosion during the drying period.

They act as long as the coating contains water. This test method is used to evaluate the effectiveness of anti flash-rust additive in the coating where it will be used.

The test duration varies depending on the coating to be tested. The results are expressed in degree of corrosion

Chemical conversionThe formation of a protective layer at the metal surface is due to a chemical conversion mecha-nism.

The metal is oxidized for example by the oxygen dissolved in the medium or by another oxidant like hydrogen peroxide added to the solution.

Carboxylates present in the solution in neutral or alkaline media or present at the metallic surface due to the alkalinization by the oxygen reduction precipitate with metallic cations coming from the oxydation of the metal and form a metallic soap.

The thickness and the morphology of the resul-ting coatings depend on the pH of the solution, thicker layers being obtained in acidic media. This chemical conversion treatment has been successfully applied on different metals as shown on these surface observations by scanning electron microscopy. From the morphological point of view, the surfaces exhibit microstructured plates.
