New Fencing We have finally received confirmation of funding for our fencing project that I first wrote to about last summer. The additional fencing is being added for safeguarding reasons and will mean that our main staff car park will be closed off during the school day – restricting vehicular access - and that all visitors and deliveries arriving during these hours will be directed to our main entrance. Work will begin during the next few weeks and be completed during February half term. The new path from the front gate to the main entrance will cut off a very small section of the playground, including one corner of the current netball court. I appreciate that this may, in the short term, affect our after school club however, our next plan is to carry out some much-needed resurfacing works around school. This means that new playground markings can be drawn onto improved surfaces. Abbey Road News

Dear Parents/Carers

Young Voices 2018

On Friday, 115 members of our Glee Club joined thousands of other schoolchildren from across the country to take part in ‘Young Voices’ – an inspirational celebration of music, song and dance. The children had been learning songs and dance moves at their early morning club and were more than ready to show the packed arena just how Abbey Road rocks! After an afternoon of rehearsals with the conductor, choreographer, guest performers and other school groups, we had definitely earned our dinner break and then it wasn’t long before the audience started to arrive. We figured out, thanks to some scarf-waving and light flashing signals, exactly where our parents were and then excitement really started to build!

The show was truly awesome – being part of something so big, so professional and so impressive is an experience never to be forgotten. Huge thanks to Mr Marshall for organising the event and also to staff and parent volunteers for accompanying the children and making things run so smoothly.

Here are just a few photos from our day – more have been uploaded to our website.

New Fencing

We have finally received confirmation of funding for our fencing project that I first wrote to about last summer.

This Girl Can!

A few weeks ago, we shared the news with the children, and with parents via twitter, that Mrs Dussek had been awarded with a bronze medal at the National Cyclo-Cross Championships. As she spoke to the children in assembly and talked them through her race, it was clear to see how committed she is to inspiring children to take part in and enjoy sport. Well done Mrs Dussek!

Carnival Time

Year 5 enjoyed a day filled with colour, music and dance as part of their ‘Brazil’ topic. Having spent the day learning Samba drumming rhythms and perfecting the accompanying dance moves under the guidance of specialist teacher, Adam, the children donned their handmade headdresses and held a Rio-style carnival of their own in the school hall. The volume was definitely turned up to 11 and a good time was had by all!

Lost Property

Our lost property tubs are filling up rather too quickly and we need your help! Although we do work our way through the contents on a regular basis in an effort to reunite items with their owners, our biggest obstacle is always the number of un-named items. As well as a number of sweatshirts and cardigans, there are also some coats, which we hope can be returned to the children they belong to. Please could you check the tubs between now and half-term as we plan to donate any un-named items to charity at this point.

The Kit Car Arrives…

Our Year 6 engineers were delighted to accept delivery of Abbey Road’s new kit car and they are looking forward to working as a team to piece it all together.

Rowing Machines!

Members of Year 6 took part in the Rushcliffe indoor rowing

tournament, working together in teams of four to complete a

number of different challenges on the rowing machines. The

event tested the children’s team-work as well as their strength,

skill & stamina and we were thrilled to find out that one of our

girls teams finished in bronze medal position! Well done Year 6!

Eco-Club News

Last week, our Eco-Club presented a special assembly to Key Stages 1 & 2, sharing everything they had learned about ‘green’ transport in Nottingham. We heard all about the bio-gas buses, which reduce emissions by 84% and learned that although trams are expensive to build (£23,000,000 each!) they use renewable energy and have won environmental awards. It was very clear from the children’s presentation that Nottingham are leading the way in eco-friendly transport.

Mrs Horton also shared a very special letter that they had received from the Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling MP – the Secretary of State for Transport - praising Nottingham for its progress in this area and in inspiring the future users and maybe even organisers of the transport network!

Eco-Club also took the opportunity to launch their latest venture - encouraging our school to compost their green waste. New bins have appeared around school for this purpose and Eco-Club are keeping themselves busy in making compost for our Year 2 gardening club, starting after half term.
