This is a story of our 16th president of the United States. He was a remarkable man.

Beard: He was the first president to wear a beard. He grew it after getting a letter from eleven year old Grace Bedell, who suggested he’d look better with a beard. As an adult Grace married and lived the rest of her life in Delphos, Kansas.

Civil WarLincoln was president during the Civil War. It began only one month after he was inaugurated. Abraham joined our divided country together during his presidency. We are a stronger country today partly because of Abraham Lincoln.

When Lincoln was nine, his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, 34 years old, died of milk sickness. The disease

came when she drank milk from the cow that had fed on white snakeroot.

colonies.

Our American Cousin was the play that President and Mrs. Lincoln were watching at Ford Theater when the President was shot by John Wilkes Booth, an actor. President Lincoln died the next day.
