1. What is your drive to continue in AIESEC? Why have you decided to stand for MCVP position in AIESEC in

Ethiopia? What do you expect to take out for this experience?

I joined AIESEC in 2012 and ever since then, every year, I was faced with a different challenge and a new

opportunity to tap into. I am very passionate about the vision of the organization. The world we are in today is

faced with various challenges and I believe Leadership is the fundamental solution. AIESEC as an organization has

changed my life in more ways than one. I see this position as one where I can further develop myself in terms of

leadership, have an advanced team experience, have an influence on the organization that means so much to

me, gain practical experience in the Incoming Global Community Development Program portfolio and also live

an adventure of a life time. My contribution will be to Add that necessary impact AIESEC in Rwanda needs

thereby producing more leaders who will in turn create the necessary positive impact in any society they find

their selves in.

2. What has been your biggest achievement/non achievement in your AIESEC Experience so far? Which

experience made you learn the most since you joined and what have you concretely learned?

My Biggest achievement in my AIESEC experience so far will be my time as organizing committee

President (National Leadership and Development Seminar 2014). My non achievement will be my time as team

leader at my local committee which we achieved less than we have targeted, which from that I learned how and

when to track the progress of my team and that result to a successful national conference.

3. How do you connect what you have learned/developed so far in AIESEC with what you are willing to do in

your future? How and why does this MCVP experience connect to your personal ambition for the future?

The connection of what I’ve learned in AIESEC and my future will be the leadership and team

management I acquired, being the MCVP of AIESEC in Ethiopia gives me the chance to see and connect

to the global world which will be a significant experience for me to start my own business in the future.

4. What aspects of your personality/working style would contribute the most to the MC team of

15/16? Which are instead the aspects of yourself that could mostly challenge the team and the experience?

My personality/working style is more of have fun as much as you can but when is time for work then we put fun

aside and concentrate to the task in hand, as the saying goes “all work and no play make jack a doll boy” and I

see my work alongside my team more of a challenge, I try to do better than my team members as well as

inspiring them to do better than me, there is no harm in a positive competition.

5. What are the main challenges you expect to face during your term regarding the following areas;

a) Your Team

b) Your Work

c) Your Personal Life

Page 4: Abdul Jalil Albasu Ethiopia MCVP 15/16 Application

6. Choose one of the 3 areas below, analyze and write down a possible solution to it. How would the role you

are applying for contribute to a sustainable solution towards it.

a) Member development in Ethiopia

b) Brand of AIESEC in Ethiopia and the global brand

c) Collaborative environment and mindset AIESEC in Ethiopia – look at the local and global level

b) Brand of AIESEC is very important not only in Ethiopia but the in the global network as a whole, I am willing to

dedicate myself to my role in other to help achieve the propose target and not only achieving the target

but also delivering the best positive impact possible which will be crucial to the brand of AIESEC in Ethiopia in the

eyes of Ethiopian government and also to the public and Ethiopian institutes, and also contribute in trying to

achieve the 3 wheels :- Global youth voice, First choice partner and Positive impact on society which will be very

important to the eyes of the public.

7. With LESS than a year left, how do you see AIESEC 2015 from the day of its inception until today? What is

needed for the organization to achieve its ambition? What is AIESEC in Ethiopia’s contribution to

this? How will the role you are applying for contribute towards AIESEC 2015 in AIESEC in Ethiopia

AIESEC 2015 tell us what AIESEC will look like in 2015, the first step of achieving our BHAG. It is through these

statements that AIESEC is able to design the activities it will deliver in 2015. The needed portion I think

it will be more commitment from the members as well as driving more exchanges in order to achieve more

quality experience, which will be the contribution of AIESEC in Ethiopia, my role as MCVP iGCDP will

contribute to the quality experience we are to deliver by tracking, evaluating and delivering the appropriate

opportunities.

My team

Challenge: I believe that I will encounter different

personalities from mine and ideological differences. As well

as different habits and characters

Solution: I am very observant and learn people’s

temperaments so I will be considerate of those around

me. I believe that it is important to set expectations in the

beginning of the term so that everyone is aware of each

other.

My work

Challenge: Finances may hinder my field of activities in the

event that the entity is struggling with financial

sustainability.

Solution: make sure my portfolio is contributing

towards the financial sustainability of the entity and being very conscious about my

financial status.

My personal life

Challenge: Being away from home might strain my

relationships in Nigeria as I will be leaving it behind for another

year and it could change beyond my greatest

imagination.

Solution: my family is very supportive, I just need to be open to change and always make time to keep in touch with my family back home.

Page 5: Abdul Jalil Albasu Ethiopia MCVP 15/16 Application

8. What should be the direction of our next mid-term ambition? What will be your contribution

towards it?

Looking at the AIESEC 2015 which is a step of hoping to achieving BHAG with the 2015 wheels, our next mid-term

ambition should be more of creating positive and quality of experience because with the quality and positive

impact AIESEC deliver it will lead us closer to our ultimate goal “peace and fulfilment of human kind potential”,

and my contribution towards this will be my full commitment in assisting the LCs as well as the national entity in

delivering the best quality and positive impact in AIESEC in Ethiopia as well as the global network.

9. Evaluate the impact of AIESEC in Ethiopia 2014/2015 in terms of strategy and implementation in the

national, regional and global network. What should be stared, stopped and continued in the 2015/2016

term?

After assessing the strategy and implementation I see that much effort has been put to support and grow the new

and smaller LCs in terms of realizations, member development and project design, visiting the LCs on a quarterly

basis for coaching and knowledge delivery is one thing that can help us a lot and I think it should be continued,

enhancing our communication channels for more updates and tracking will give us a boost in staying on track to

our goal, one thing I will recommend is assigning weekly tasks to the LCs in order for them to learn by doing and

giving them more boost and courage for them to step up and seek for leadership roles.

10. Analyze the new Leadership Development Model (LDM) in the context of AIESEC in Ethiopia. How will the

new leadership model be embedded in the new customer flow in AIESEC in Ethiopia? What in your opinion

should be the role of the MC & LCs in this respectively?

The new Leadership model is what contributes to the development of an individual in terms of Self-awareness,

solution driven, empowering others and global citizen.

These elements are the ESSENSIAL MINIMUMS to enable life-long leadership development journey, and we

develop those element by providing the Inner and Outer journey.

AIESEC in Ethiopia provides both journeys in the aspect of ICX and OGX for better understanding of Ethiopia as a

country and the world as a whole.

I see the role of the MC is to supervise, coach and assist while the LCs running the exchange programs for them to

get better understanding and knowledge of the process.

Role Specific Questions

1. Describe your three top achievements iGCDP (Within or without AIESEC)

First I will like to mention my term as OCP of AIESEC Ghana National conference where we had some

troubles securing a location as well as fund for the conference but at the end I manage to lead my

team and deliver one of the best conference in AIESEC in Ghana.

Secondly my term as PRO of my institute’s international students association (ISA) where I have to

connect the international students, the administrative office and the Ghana immigration office in term

of legalizing their stay in Ghana.

And last but not the least I will mention my time in Sudan where I had to captain my senior high

school (Sudanese Turkish International school) football team to a gold medal in inter school

competition as well as receiving the fair play player of the competition.

2. Analyze existing AIESEC in Ethiopia projects with regards to each LC. Which national projects would

you like to focus on your possible term and why? How would you package them to attract investment from

the AIESEC entities?

LC Project

AAU EDU Power These project targets charity schools, and institutions with low access to

teachers. The target group are children from the age of 3-16. It focuses on

literacy and subject education within the various target groups.

EiABC EDU Power

Hawassa BEKind This project is about helping blind university students on their studies with

emphasis on helping them improve their communication skills; focusing on

English. The intern will also be helping in their day to day studies and guiding

the students in their research making.

Mekelle RED Life This is a project about creating awareness events to promote blood donations

and organizing a blood drive. This project would be conducted in collaboration

with a Blood Bank in the city of Mekelle and would end with a 1 week blood

drive throughout the city of Mekelle as well as the University of Mekelle.

Unity JOY Center Joy Center for Autism, is one of the partnering organizations that provides care

and support for Autistic children and young adults.

SU Commerce Clean Drop This is mainly aimed at creating awareness on health & sanitation around high

schools. By collaborating this project with education and awareness on

HIV/AIDS. Schools will highly engage in involving their students and cleaning

services for a cleaner environment. This project is run in collaboration with

various sanitation companies

With this I will like to focus on “EDUpower” As it target children within the age of 3 – 16 and as we all know children

are the future, so it is very important for them to get the appropriate knowledge not only by learning the basic

education in school but also by getting some understanding of cultural diversity and its positive from the early age,

and my plan is to provide the best reception possible for the interns alongside the LCVP responsible.

Incoming Global Community Development Program

3. Using the Ethiopian Growth Transformational plans or other directive you know, design a non-corporate

strategy for AIESEC in Ethiopia to grow GCDP realizations and increase impact within the Ethiopian

Society.

4. Analyze the standards and satisfaction elements and write down your strategies to implement them in

AIESEC in Ethiopia. Lay emphasis on accommodation for your interns.

Logistics:

- Visa and work permit: an invitation letters to be sent on time and found out visa on arrival process for

some nationals and ensure it is in the reception booklet.

- Arrival pick-up : making sure the interns have buddies once matched, organize a cultural preparation

seminar and ensure pick-ups are on time

- Departure support: know when the intern is leaving, have a lead session to evaluate whether you

delivered a leadership experience and ensure that there is someone to take them to the airport.

Job:

Make sure the JD is broken down in details and covers a period of 6 weeks. The interns should work at

least 25 hours a week, make sure an AIESECer escort them to work on their first day, set goals for the

intern to meet during their experience. Make sure all the details are on the opportunities form on EXPA

Living:

Secure accommodation for the interns before their arrival and ensure accommodation fees are broken

down and transparent and provide services promised, basic living cost should also be highlighted (meals,

transportation and night life)

Experience & learning:

This is through lead sessions and intern activities, try organizing national activities so that LCs learn to work

together.

The use of intern tracker will be the main tool to ensure standards and satisfaction in the entity. Firstly,

forms will be well looked through before opened to be viewed on OP. Project and Reception Booklet will

be approved by the quality board before is released. The tracker /quality sheet will contain information

both for the home realization (OGX) and Host completion (ICX). It will be an obligation for all LC to fill the

quality sheet and the quality control board will visit LCs periodically to check on living standards of EPs and

the TN.

6. Choose a ministry in Ethiopia and write a proposal to the minister about a possible project. What will be

the key value proposition and what will be the investments needed from the ministry?

Dear Sir/Madam

INVITATION TO PARTNER WITH AIESEC ETHIOPIA GLOBAL VILLAGE

AIESEC is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organization that provides young people with

leadership development and cross-cultural global internship and volunteer exchange experiences across the

globe, with a focus to empower young people so they can make a positive impact on society. The AIESEC

network includes over 100,000 members in 125 countries and territories. It is the largest youth-run

organization in the world.

The issues of cultural intolerance and racism have greatly affected nation building, homes, workplaces and the

For this year’s Global village, AIESEC in Ethiopia aims at enhancing cultural diversity awareness and promote

public involvement in environmental safety. Culture is your way of life therefore global village wants to make

safety our way of life. We seek to drive a sense of shared responsibility to environmental safety by all cultures.

Our theme is “protecting the environment is protecting ourselves”. We live in one village the earth;

therefore we share the responsibility to protect its environment for our common future. The team has

decided to look into the environmental safety culture of the Ethiopians and how best we can sensitize people

through cultural habits for a great change.

Will also appreciate cash sponsorship towards the implementation of our project. This would be used to fund

the global festival celebration, to cater for all invited guests who are taking part in various cultural

performances, we will be grateful for any suggestions or feedback in our bid to grow culturally sensitive and

global minded individuals.

We would also want you to engage us in running any project that you want to embark on for the youth as we

strive at being a global youth voice, we have the human resource with youthful zeal and creativity.

Thank you

Yours Sincere,

7. Choose and analyze 3 possible entity partners for AIESEC in Ethiopia for the 15/16 term. Why did you

choose these entities and which kind of issues would you like to partner up on?

AIESEC in Germany;

I personally have a

good relationship with

lot of German interns

while volunteering in

my home entity, and I

got acknowledge that

they are very had

working in whatever

they do and I think they

will be willing to give a

helping hand to the

societies of Ethiopia.

AIESEC in China;

From my time with

some of the Chinese

interns in my home

entity I got to know

that they are really

passionate and

consistent in their daily

activities which make

them reliable people

and I think they will be

off help to the young

talents of Ethiopia.

AIESEC in Italy;

From my research I got

to know that AIESEC in

Italy are the “Parent” of

AIESEC in Ethiopia and

from my experience and

interactions with some

of the Italian Eps we

received in my home

entity I get to know that

they enjoy volunteering

in Africa as a whole, try

to give a helping hand in

developing young

African talents.

8. What are your strategies in terms of bringing iGCDP sustainability for the 15/16 term? Write down the

possible synergies you see happening. How would your role in AIESEC in Ethiopia contribute towards the

growth of the East African Sub-Region?

Member development: I believe that AIESECs core purpose is developing the youth. Once our

members have the all the necessary knowledge and the passion, they will drive the entity

Product development: Our products define our relevance to society, if poorly packaged or under

developed, we will not make first choice partners

Customer centricity: this action of putting our customer’s satisfaction in the center of our operation

is highly important for the organization to achieve our goals and also a good relationship with them

which can turn them into our promoters.

Synergies:

Coordination of Human resource on the team,

Management of assessment flow of operations (Interview, agenda setting),

member education,

integration management

Partnership creation with NGOs and corporates

Promotion of opportunities

Graphic/Design for iGCDP materials

My role in this will be to ensure Entity Country Partnership developments within and outside the east

African sub-region, project management within the entity, Matching and Realization process of Eps.

9. Design a LEAD document for implementation in all LCs for interns.

Closing

Dinner/party/Clubbing etc.

10. If you were to ask a question to an applicant for this role, what would that question be and what would

be the ideal answer you would be looking to hear?

My question to the applicant will be “do you think iGCDP portfolio is relevant, and why?” And the answer I

will like to hear is “yes, because with this portfolio AIESEC is able to impact, change and develop different

children in a positive way from different part of the world for a better global understanding.
