(a) Students1. What are Ram1 and Ram2 in Table 1.1-1(page 18)?

2.  Please clarify the freshman enrollment of 8 (T081) of Table 1.1-1 (page 18).

3. In Table 1.6_1, there is a decreasing student enrollment from 2005 to 2009. What might be the cause and what measures are being taken to increase the enrollment?

(b) Program Educational Objectives 4. On page 32 of the SSR, it is stated that the program constituents are faculty, students, alumni, and

employers. What was the involvement of program constituents in formulating the computer engineering program educational objectives?

(c)  Program Outcomes5. On page 79 of the SSR, it is mentioned that the class average of an outcome is calculated from exams,

lab work, quizzes.  Were the students’ work directly assessed by faculty to ascertain the degree to which the outcomes are being attained by the students?

6. Table 3.6-12 (page 92) shows that the outcomes for T062, T071, T072 were averaged and compared to the outcomes for T081. What is the rationale for combining outcomes data for TO62, T071 and T072?

(d) Continuous Improvement 7.  It is mentioned on page 98 of the SSR, that outcome (g-W) will be improved during the 2008-2009

academic year.  However, no improvement results were provided in the SSR. Please let me have the results, if available.

PEV Questions to the COE

Page 20: ABET ACCREDITATION FOR THE COMPUTER ENGINEERING PROGRAM Dr. Mayez Al-Mouhamed Professor, Computer Engineering Department King Fahd University of Petroleum.

20

(e) Curriculum8.  Send me a brief list of capstone design projects that were completed during the 2008-2009 academic year.  For the projects, do send me (i) brief design constraints of the various projects, and (ii) the corresponding engineering standards or codes used by the students to complete their projects.

(f) Faculty9.  Send me the list of faculty members who performed University services for the past three years.

10.  Send me a list of faculty development activities for the past three years.

(g) Facilities 11. Please comment on adequacy of classrooms for the Computer Engineering program.

(h) Program Criteria 12. The program requires all students to successfully complete a course in probability and statistics.  However, applications of probability and statistics in the program were not provided in the SSR.  Please send me a brief list of applications of probability and statistics in the computer engineering program.

Conclusion ABET Engineering Standards are the result of a profound

experience and long evolution out of one of the most experienced academic systems in the world.

The COE department is seeking accreditation from ABET EC 2008-09 as a strategy to provide quality assurance for its BSc Program.

ABET accreditation will enable the COE to:a) Improve the quality of engineering education (EE) by

balancing and combining technical knowledge with needed personal skills.

b) Align with some international standard in EE.c) Gain international recognition.
