Warranty

Abey’s 25 year limited warranty for their stainless steel sink range covers defects in manufacture for a period of 25 years from the date of original invoice. Scratching, denting, rusting, spotting or discolouration is not covered by Abey’s 25 year limited warranty. Follow our maintenance hints and installation instructions to protect the stainless steel and maintain the appearance of the sink. For more information on Abey’s 25 year limited warranty, see the warranty conditions on our website or contact Abey.

Stainless Steel

All Abey stainless steel sinks are manufactured from the finest 304 – 18/10 stainless steel. 18/10 means you get a heavy, strong, durable sink that has been made with a material that has 18% Chromium and 10% Nickel. Chromium and Nickel are added at the melting stage in the steel making process so that stainless steel is “stainless all the way through”. There is nothing to wear, chip, or peel off.

Stainless steel develops an invisible, tenacious and highly protective chrome oxide film on the surface which gives the exceptional corrosion resistance properties, and infinite longevity, of stainless steel. Stainless steel is not guaranteed to be free from corrosion. It is important to properly care and maintain the sink to protect the stainless steel and help keep the finish corrosion free. Rusting and spotting can occur if common household detergents such as bleaches are allowed to sit on the surface without dilution of water. Allowing other metal objects to sit on the surface in the presence of water can also promote rusting and spotting.

Installation

Installation of any sink in this brochure is the responsibility of the customer or the customer’s installer. We highly recommend installation (in particular flush mount installation of flush mount sinks) by qualified and experienced stonemasons or cabinet makers.

ALWAYS check the sink for blemishes or imperfections before installation. The cost of delivering and installing a replacement sink will be the responsibility of the customer.

ALWAYS use the physical product measurements for cut outs – the manufacturer’s template is supplied as a guide only and may differ from the product measurements over time. Abey and the manufacturer are continually seeking ways to improve the design specifications, aesthetics and production techniques of the products. As a result, alterations to the specifications and dimensions of the products and designs occur continually.

By installing the sink, the owner accepts that it is free of blemishes or imperfections including scratches, dents, spotting, discolouration and rust.

Maintenance hints

By following these maintenance hints, you can maintain the finish of your stainless steel for longer:

• Scratching on the surface of sinks will occur over time through normal usage; scratches cannot be removed but only made less noticeable by using stainless steel polishing creams and cleaning products. The best form of maintenance is frequent, regular cleaning. A little bit of cleaning on a regular basis is preferable to a major cleaning on a sporadic basis.

• The best method of preventative maintenance is to ensure the sink is clean and dry. Rinse and towel dry the sink after each use in order to minimise major clean ups – keeping it shiny and relatively free of water spots.

• Keep the sink fixture free of any standing water, which may build up mineral deposits. The quality of your water can affect the sink’s appearance and this water quality will vary from household to household.

• To clean your sink, use the mildest cleaning procedure that will do the job effectively. Exercise extreme care with household cleaners in particular strong detergents or bleaches.

• Always rinse the sink after using a cleaning agent, and wipe the sink dry to discourage any water spotting.

• Metallic scouring pads and steel wool pads must never be used to clean your sink or any utensils in the sink, as they will leave a residue of small iron particles. They may not even be readily visible, but they most certainly will lead to rusting and corrosion of the sink.

• Do not leave any mild steel, or cast iron cookware, or implements, anywhere on the sink for extended periods of time. The combined presence of iron and moisture with stainless steel can only lead to surface corrosion and staining of the sink.

• Do not leave wet sponges or cleaning pads in the sink overnight as they will trap water underneath which could lead to staining and discoloration of the sink surface. The unique properties of stainless steel are dependent upon exposure of the surface to the atmosphere.

• We recommend that you don’t use chlorine bleach in your stainless steel sink, as chlorine will attack the protective layer that makes stainless steel truly stainless. Any drain cleaning products containing sulphuric or hydrochloric acid will attack the sink.

• For the occasional treatment of grime and mineral deposits that may build up over time, use cleaning products specifically designed for stainless steel, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

• If rusting or spotting occurs, it can easily be removed with the use of a cutting compound, a soft scrubber (such as nylon or plastic) and a little elbow grease.
