While they have grown accustomed to the 55 gallon

drum packaging, they are open to new ways to be

able to save money, as long as it still allows them to

maintain their ingredient quality.

they consider different packaging and delivery cycles

By switching packaging sizes and order volumes,

Centra Foods blossomed out of the need for a new kind of olive oil

supplier. Owned by Tom & Tedeen Franz, it is a dynamic and principled

business founded from an old-world industry.

The Story of Centra Foods

The business was established in 2010 by an

olive oil broker with many years of

experience in the industry. He had a strong

passion for serving his customers with

authentic olive oil. To be able to do just that,

he gathered a new supply team, including

long time business owners Tom and Tedeen

Franz. Together, they constructed a supply

chain that stretched from tree to customer,

and established a new brand they would be

proud to represent.

And thus, Centra Foods was born, striving to be a new standard of

transparency and honesty in the oil supply industry.

The company established centrally managed operations and corporate

headquarters in Kent, Washington. On April 14th, 2014 after exponential

growth, Centra Foods moved to a new 15,000 Sq. Ft facility.

Our Supply Chain Centra Foods works with olive oil manufacturers

around the globe to source high quality, authentic

olive oil at fair prices.  

We work with quality olive oil producers from a

number of countries, including Italy, Greece,

Chile, Argentina, Turkey, Tunisia, Mexico,

Lebanon, Morocco, and the USA. We focus on

sourcing both competitive prices and high quality

oils.

Most of the mills that we work with function

as member supported co-operative

manufacturing plants. The olives come

from farmers in the area and each are

considered important members.

Farmers own their own plots of land and

harvest their own olives. However, they all

come together to collaboratively use the mill

The different mills that we work with

produce millions of gallons of olive oil

each year, made from millions of pounds

of olives.

In the Mediterranean, the harvest season

is from October to January.

Process

After the olives are harvested, they are

quickly brought to the mill and pressed.

To prepare for Extra Virgin Olive Oil

production, olive stems and leaves are

removed using gentle vibrations. The

olives then proceed to a “wash area”

where they are cold-water washed.

After the cold water wash, the olives are crushed into a paste. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is typically

produced using a centrifuge extraction system. This centrifuge spins the oil out of the olive

paste, similar to the spin cycle of a washing machine. This system is a modern alternative to

the old-world pressing system, and is preferred by most mills because it produces a higher

quality oil.

Once the oil is produced, it is filtered and

prepared for shipping or storage.

Different production runs (or lots) of olive oil can

be blended to produce a particular flavor profile

for customers that require a high volume and

can lock into a contract.

Quality control is a vital component to

producing great olive oil.

After the olive oil is produced, it is tested to

determine exact acidity levels and many other

chemical and physical properties.

After production, the oil is stored in large tanks

until it is shipped to Centra Foods in the US and

other locations around the world.

As oil is produced and sold, the inventory in these

tanks rotates to hold the freshest olive oil available

at all times.

Step 1: Bulk Oils Travel To Centra Foods We import our oils in bulk packaging from manufacturing mills around the

globe to our corporate headquarters and packing facility in Kent,

Washington. We have inventory always in movement from the

manufacturing mills to us, continuously filling our supply chain.

Step 2: Oil Is Packed Into Bulk Containers

The olive oil is packed into small bulk containers like drums, totes and 35

Lb. Containers. There are a variety of packaging options available, and

we work with each customer to help them discover the most efficient,

cost-saving options for their plant.

Step 2: Oil Is Packed Into Bulk Containers The most common bulk oil packaging options for manufacturers include

plastic IBC caged totes, Bag-in-Box recyclable cardboard totes, and drums.

Step 3: Oil Is Distributed To Customers After our oil is packaged into bulk containers, we ship the products directly to

our customers from coast to coast, throughout the US and Canada.
