PAIN TREATMENTS
At the Center for Neurosciences we specialize in minimally invasive pain therapies. The services and treatments we offer cover the entire spectrum of techniques and technologies that are available today. These include:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Injections•Selective Nerve and Epidural Steroid Injections•Sacroiliac and Other Joint Injections•Sympathetic Nerve Blocks•Facet Joint Injections•Trigger Point Injections•Caudal Injections•Spinal Cord Stimulation•Radiofrequency Treatments•Many other state-of-the-art procedures•
Injection Therapy uses a needle to inject a pain reliever or anti-inflammatory medication into thespine, or other areas of the body, to treat various pain conditions. A variety of types of injections are used. Epidural steroids, which allow targeted placement of medication directly to the painful site, are one of the most frequently utilized. This highly effective approach can relieve severe pain of many types.
Radiofrequency Therapy uses radio waves that produce heat to interrupt signals from the nerve that is causing pain. This minimally invasive procedure can be used to provide long term pain relief for a number of painful conditions of the head, neck, back, legs and other body areas. This therapy usually follows the use of a diagnostic nerve block—a test in which a nerve is numbed to learn ifitisthecauseofpain.Thisconfirmsthesourceofpain and predicts the relief that can be expected from the radiofrequency procedure.
Neurostimulation is a remarkable and revolutionary treatment that blocks pain signals from traveling through the spinal cord to the brain. A device the size of a silver dollar is placed under the skin to deliver electrical impulses to the spinal cord, thereby blocking pain “messages” from reaching the brain. A hand-held programmer allows the patient to control the electrical impulse, which replaces debilitating pain with a mild and pleasurable “tingling” sensation.
