ABOUT EMILIEEmilie Perz is an international yoga educator and movement therapist based in Los Angeles. Her vast knowledge of yoga and anatomy, infectious positivity and her creative and fun sequences have gained her a dedicated following making her classes highly sought-after and earning her a nod as one of LA’s Top Yoga Instructors.

An advanced practitioner herself, Emilie was initially introduced to yoga a way to ease the anxiety and depression she suffered following her father’s death when she was 17. What began as a gentle Hatha practice turned into a deep love for Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vinyasa flow that she continues to practice and study today.

This passion for yoga has led Emilie to countless yogic teaching and learning experiences on many continents. She has over 1000 hours of yoga education, has taught more than 20 workshops globally and has served as teacher trainer for several yoga institutions including YogaWorks, Yoga Medicine and Light on Lotus. In 2018, Emilie was hired to create the anatomy curriculum for Equinox 200hr teacher trainings worldwide. She has also served as a Lululemon and Free People brand ambassador, worked as an Adidas consultant for photoshoots and branding campaigns, and has continued her anatomy education by participating in cadaver work at The Laboratory of Anatomical Intelligence in Phoenix.

Emilie also spent three years as Community Director launching YogaMedicine®, a yoga teacher training program based on anatomy, biomechanics and physiology, with founder Tiffany Cruikshank. This experience cemented Emilie’s knowledge on these topics, which she now brings to her current career in yoga movement therapy at LA-based medical rehabilitation center, Urban Med. At Urban Med, Emilie meets one-on-one with patients to create individual pre/post rehabilitation treatment plans consisting of yoga movement, pranayama, meditation and myofascial release.

Emilie resides in Los Angeles where she sees patients at Urban Med Los Angeles and teaches weekly classes for YogaWorks, Roam and Equinox. She holds a BA from Columbia College in Chicago.

HAPPY HANDSTANDS

Inversions are not only mentally scary but also physically complex. However, Inversions allow us to build inner strength and confidence to move through obstacles on and off our mat.

In this workshop we will break down the many component parts, both anatomically and energetically, that get in our way to getting up. Learn how to set yourself up for success with proper alignment, body coordination and deep shoulder/core work to fire up the body. Gain confidence and learn several techniques to help you levitate with grace and ease.

Often times breaking down our own mental limitations can tap us into the potential within. Learn to handstand to feel lighter, brighter and happy.

THE ART OF ARM BALANCES

Let’s face it: arm balances are like the Rubik’s Cube of yoga. Each one of them awe inspiring and uniquely different and challenging. However, these poses can really puzzle us due to their demand of effort, force and attention to detail as well as their awkward anatomical positioning. Like a plane, there are many component parts that need to be synergistically pieced together in order to take flight and without the proper understanding we tend to accelerate ourselves into these postures without proper understanding.

In this workshop we will break down the dynamics of these postures and how linking the relationships of our parts to the poses can lead to breakthroughs in balance. Take a moment to step back from the demanding parts of these poses and hone in on the strength and flexibility required to actually lift off and stay up.

THE ARCHiTECTuRE OF CORE & ART OF BACkBENDiNg

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yoga practitioner you definitely have a back and a core that you have integrated in your yoga practice! Come deepen your understanding of how core strength and spine flexibility can revitalize your back bending practice. Day 1, we will examine common issues in the core that lead to low back pain while backbending and learn new exercises to integrate the core that don’t require holding forearm planks or doing 100 navasanas. Day 2, we will take our understanding of core strength and apply it to creating a more supple, stable upper body to which we can experiment with bigger, beautiful backbends. This workshop weekend is the perfect marriage of both strength and flexibility.

Yoga Teachers: Learn to craft your sequences in a creative and masterful way to help you share memorable and transformative experiences through both your asana and spiritual practices. Senior teacher Emilie Perz brings this advanced sequencing module to yoga instructors who have a strong desire to take their teaching to the next level. This training draws upon the ancient tradition of Vinyasa Krama, a step by step process of sequentially threading postures together to reach a specific apex or peak pose while adding a fresh and contemporary perspective to inspire and sharpen the teacher’s toolbox. Designed for yogis who have already completed a 200-hour training, this workshop will give you the practical and transformational tools to keep growing and evolving as a teacher, and to help your students do the same! Come prepared to craft mindful sequences together based off of the chakra system, philosophy, anatomy, alignment, mythology and subtle body. What distinguishes a good teacher from a great one is how to sequence balanced flows that also nourish your students spiritually.

The intention is that all leave inspired and excited by an entirely new set of questions, aspirations and inspirations for their teaching path. Because the path of a good teacher is always the path of a curious student.
