The NVCTI, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad takes pleasure in announcing Jharkhand School Innovation Challenge-2021 (JH-SIC 2021) to inculcate an innovation culture and provide a competitive platform to the budding innovators of Jharkhand to showcase their imagina-tion and creativity to identify challenges in their communities and to develop innovative solutions to address them.

1). To cultivate young fertile brains as the innovators and entrepre-neurs of the future by promoting informal learning, focusing on indigenous technological advancements to contribute positively to the economy, the environment, and society.

2). To provide an opportunity for school children of all the 24 districts of Jharkhand state to identify the problems related to societal importance and offer a viable solution to uplift their immediate community's living standard.

3). To provide a platform for budding innovators to demons-trate their creativity and inventiveness at solving this problem.

4). To provide an interface among young creators, academic experts, entrepreneurs, and industry.

With an objective to encourage, inspire and nurture young creators, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has established Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI) with the generous financial support of our distinguished alumnus of the 1967 batch of Petroleum Engineering, Shri Naresh Vashisht. In an endeavor to provide an enabling physical environment for young creators to transform ideas into product leading to successful entrepreneurship, the centre is equipped with state of the art “Tinkering and Innovation Laboratory” consisting of a mechanical & rapid prototyping unit; Gaming and Animation Design Unit; Electronic circuit and IOT unit; Battery-Pouch Cell Assembly unit and Robotics and Automation Unit. The centre intends to build a positive innovation ecosystem to generate creative solutions to local and global societal importance problems.

Student teams from schools of Jharkhand are invited to identify problems and to submit innovative, novel, viable and verifiable solutions with a possibility to be commercialized,

related to the broad idea of the themes as mentioned below:

1). Energy harnessing

2). Water and Sanitation

3). Environment

4). Education

5). Health & Well-being

School students of classes 8-12 from Jharkhand based schools are eligible to participate in the JH-SIC.

ELIGIBILITY

1. All entries will be made either by the school or by the team leader of a participating team with the proper approval of the school. The DISE code is mandatory for the online submission

of entries.

2. Each school can submit a maximum of two ideas (one idea per team).

3. There can be a maximum of 4 members in a team.

4. Entries must be submitted within the prescribed time-frame. Late entries will not be accepted.

5. Entry Fee: Per team Rs. 100 to be paid through online mode.

• Schools willing to participate should register for the event on the JH-SIC web portal using the DISE code of

their school.

• Each school should also appoint a JH-SIC school coordinator.

• Schools need to identify student team(s) with innovati-ve aptitude, ready to work on a problem of their choice

related to the theme of the event.

• Schools should enlist the name of team(s), group leader and team members on the JH-SIC web portal.

PHASE 1IDEA SUBMISSION

& SCREENING

• Submission of ideas by student teams.

• Each school can submit a maximum of two ideas, i.e. two teams, each with a different idea.

• Each team can have a maximum of 4 students.

• Ideas can be submitted online in the prescribed format (Annexure 1).

• All entries will receive a confirmation message/mail on the successful submission of their idea(s).

• Review and selection of ideas for Phase-2 by an expert committee comprising experts from academia and

industry. The parameters of evaluation and corresponding weightage are given in the table below:

Selection 1.0: Based on the expert committee's scrutiny and evaluation, a maximum of 10 ideas will be selected

for Phase-2 from each district.

PHASE 2ANNOUNCEMENT OF DISTRICT CHAMPION

NVCTI

• Teams selected in Phase-1 will have to present their ideas before a panel of experts.

• A fixed template of the presentation will be shared with the shortlisted teams.

• Submission should be made by filling the specific fields mentioned in the template.

• A proof of concept (PoC) is also required to be shown during the presentation.

• Additional support file/files (e.g., videos of rough design concept/ CAD diagrams/ Circuit diagrams/ Simulations) should

be presented as part of the proof of concept.

Selection 2.0:

A District Champion will be announced from each district based on the total score (50% weightage to proof of concept and 50% weightage to presentation) obtained by the respective teams. Each District Champion will get a

Certificate of Merit along with an entry to Phase-3.

There will be some entries to Phase-3 through Wild Card for exceptionally innovative ideas presented during selection 2.0 to have a maximum of 40 teams qualifying

for Phase-3.

• All the selected 40 teams will be awarded monetary supports of Rs. 10,000/- each to convert their idea into a prototype.

• Mentorship will be provided by NVCTI.

• The developed prototypes need to be submitted and presented before an expert panel for the evaluation within the

time-frame.

PHASE 3MENTORING & PROTOTYPE

DEVELOPMENT

NVCTI

• All the selected 40 teams will be awarded monetary supports of Rs. 10,000/- each to convert their idea into a prototype.

• Mentorship will be provided by NVCTI.

• The developed prototypes need to be submitted and presented before an expert panel for the evaluation within the

time-frame.

Selection 3.0: A panel of experts will evaluate the developed prototypes to select 10 best prototypes.

Top 10 teams will be invited to the Campus of IIT (ISM) and will be provided with Internship opportunities at NVCTI and

facilitate the further development of the prototype.

Grand Finale: Based on the degree of novelty, application of the developed technology, cost-effectiveness, competiti-ve advantage, and user-friendliness, a STATE CHAMPION will be announced during the GRAND FINALE of the JH-SIC event along with I-Runner Up and II-Runner Up. Two conso-

lation winners will also be announced.

State Champion Team: Rs. 100000 Cash prize.

First Runner Up Team: Rs. 75000 Cash prize.

Second Runner Up Team: Rs. 50000 Cash prize.

Teams with Consolation Prize: Rs. 25000 Cash prize.

Along with the cash prizes, the top 5 teams will get a Memento and a Certificate of Merit.

Top 5 Ideas will get full-funding support for commerciali-zing their idea into a final product under the mentorship of

NVCTI.

A Shield and a Certificate will be provided to each school having District Champion team, the school having State

Champion, and schools with Runner Up teams.

Each team selected for Phase-2 will get an E-certificate of Participation.

General Terms and conditions: By registering for this competition, it shall be deemed that each individual of the participating team has agreed to be bound by the following terms and conditions:

Liability: • Participating teams are expected to follow the rules laid down by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad laws while participating in JH-SIC. The NVCTI, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad reserves the right to disqualify a team not confirming with the eligibility criteria or not complying with the Terms & Conditions and/or the Competition Rules and spirit.• By entering the Competition, each team and its members agree to accept the decisions of NVCTI, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad as final, including the determination of the winners of the AVISHKAR.• The NVCTI, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad shall have the discretion to initiate appropriate action against participating teams, including individuals of such participating teams, in case of any losses or damages arising from the violation of the Eligibility Criteria, Competition Rules, and the Terms & Conditions.• The participating teams will have to specify whether the idea/proposal submitted for the event is their own original idea/work or the idea has been built on previous work.• The IP of the submitted idea rests with the proposer(s).

Confidentiality: By choosing to participate in JH-SIC, each participating team member will be considered allowing NVCTI, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to use their names, images, and information regarding the team's business and prize information in publicity and marketing efforts unless expressly prohibited by law. Each participating team must agree to accept that their registration form and other entries will not be returned to them and accept that their personal data will be available for information and statistical purposes.
