A little book about
There are three things that I would like you to know about REED:
The first is that we are a family company. REED was founded in 1960 by my father, Sir Alec Reed, then aged 26, and he is still actively contributing to the company 56 years later.
The second is that our values are very important to us. Our values are that we are fair, open and honest, we take ownership and we work together.
The third is that our long-standing business strategy is to grow organically.
Ultimately, there are only two ways that a company can grow organically: through innovation and through service excellence.
Ultimately, our goal is to give you the best possible service and our investments in innovation and service development have this goal as their primary purpose.
We look forward to supporting you and your business this year and for many years to come.
Helping the world I am always excited to learn about the new innovation and service development that REED is bringing to market and I hope that you will be too.
A word from James Reed
WELCOME

See how REED has developed through the years, from its humble beginnings back in 1960 to becoming the world’s largest family-run recruitment company.
A family business…
The first REED office opened in Kingsley Road, Hounslow, West
London on 7th May 1960.
Sir Alec Reed founded the Reed Business School in 1972, with the aim of providing a learning
centre for accountancy students.
Launched in 1996, Reed Learning has become
a leading business training provider.
The Reed Foundation was gifted 18% of the REED Group
and, in the following year, founded both Ethiopiaid and
Womankind Worldwide.
In 1995, reed.co.uk became the UK’s first job site offered by a recruitment agency in the UK.
Since then, reed.co.uk has become the UK’s #1 job site.

On the go…The recruitment industry has changed dramatically over the last decade – here at REED we aim to stay
at the forefront of this shifting market.
The digital revolution has changed the way we look for work, hire new staff and train existing employees. We’re responding to these changing consumer habits by investing in technology.
Over the last decade, Britain has become a ‘smartphone society‘, with mobiles overtaking laptops as our most popular browsing device.
REED is committed to offering you a streamlined experience, with instant access across a range of devices.
We’ve seen this trend played out on reed.co.uk, with around half of our traffic now coming via smartphone or tablet. It’s this shift that has led to the development of the latest version of the reed.co.uk mobile app.
GOING MOBILE
This makes my job search so easy and I check it daily – great app!
GOING MOBILE
The app allows candidates to view your roles at all times, wherever they are. So, whether they’re on their commute, have five minutes in the middle of their day, or they’re at home in the evening, your jobs are just a few swipes away. We call it “on the go job hunting”.

Reed in Partnership delivers National Citizen Service, the UK government’s youth
empowerment programme, in the South West and the East of England.
We’re supporting the next generation as they take control of their futures. The NCS programme equips participants with the skills, attitudes and
experiences to become responsible citizens, while having fun and making new friends with people they wouldn’t usually meet.
Developing the next generation…
DEVELOPING TALENTDEVELOPING TALENT
NCS was an amazing four weeks of having fun, making new friends and learning valuable new skills while making a real difference in the local community. Now as a graduate of the scheme, the offers just keep on coming. I have not stopped saying ‘Yes’ to all the amazing opportunities that are available Cheltenham teenager, Jonathan Parr, 17, completed NCS at Gloucestershire College in August 2014.

WHO WE SUPPORT
Without charity what’s the point of business? And without business there would be no charity
Sir Alec Reed CBE, founder of REED
The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge is all about making a difference for the causes you care about, and helping your philanthropy go further.
18% of the business is owned by the Reed Foundation, which supports good causes around the world. Set up by Sir Alec
Reed in 1985, it is the driving force behind all of REED’s philanthropic activities. The Foundation has provided the
seed funding for a number of charities, including Ethiopiaid, The Big Give and Womankind Worldwide.
The Big Give is a non-profit, charitable website which enables donors to find and support charity projects in their field of interest. It is funded and
supported by the Reed Foundation and reed.co.uk.
Every year, the Big Give runs its flagship match-funding campaign, the
Christmas Challenge. The campaign offers anyone the opportunity to support the causes they care most about by having their donation doubled.
