It is the time of the year when Midtown recognizes & felicitates achievement of sports person (s) in the city. This year around Midtown decided to present the coveted award to Mr.C.S.Amarnath who has achieved major milestones in athletics. Being a cop himself he has kept the passion for sports alive and has won laurels at state and international tournaments.

Media gathered in large numbers much before the chief guest arrived. The meeting began with regular pleasantries and Rotary procedures. President Rtn.Bhanu began in crisp kannada and welcomed the gathering and handed over to Rtn.Srini for introducing the awardee and chief guest of the day Mr.N.Prakash. Rtn.Srini introduced them in kannada in his own style. Without much ado the award was presented to Amarnath. Family of Amarnath was invited to join for the group photo and the already impatient part of the media left for the day.

Amarnath gave a very short acceptance speech as most of the sports people would do. He whole heartedly thanked Midtown for bestowing the award on him and also mentioned the legacy of the award which would bring more recognition to him. He particularly thanked Rtn.Aiyanna and few other people who contributed to his success. In between the transition Rtn.Bhanu did not forget to mention that people who have been felicitated by Midtown have gone to achieve greater heights. Taking a cue from this the Chief guest of the day who started his speech in kannada quipped that he too was felicitated by Midtown and only then he went onto become the Mayor of the City bring

laughter in the hall. Prakash profusely praised the efforts of Amarnath for all his achievements. He then requested Midtown of felicitating more players instead of only one and also offered 3 trophies from his side if required. Being a sportsman himself, he restricted his speech to a very short. Rtn.Nandoo then recognized efforts of Rtn.Alagappan & Rtn.Raghavendra for their herculean task of fund collection for the recently concluded District conference. He handed over mementos on behalf of the governor. Rtn.Venkatesh proposed vote of thanks to end the meaningful event. Midtown wishes Amarnath a successful athletic life!!!

Designed with the visually impaired in m i n d , t h e FingerReader will 'read' the words of a printed text aloud while also ensuring

the user is following the lines of the text correctly.

Developed by a team at the MIT Media Lab, the FingerReader scans the text as the user moves their finger across the line and delivers audio feedback of the words. The device will also alert the user to the start and end of the line with haptic feedback and other cues, and its FingerReader algorithm will detect when the user has veered off the line of text and give cues to help maintain a straight scanning motion.

With deep regret we announce the sad demise of PRIP Albert Henry Royce Abbey. He joined the Rotary Rotary Club of Essendon in 1954. A convincing and dynamic speaker, Royce

had made good use of his gifts of oratory and public speaking skills in his Rotary assignments.

In 1963-64 he served as president of the Rotary Club of Essendon.

Later he became RI Director for 1976-78 and served as a vice president and member of the executive committee in the second year of his term.

He became the President of Rotary International in 1988/89. During his Presidency he said “….Life is action. Rotary is action. Rotary is what Rotary does, but without you, Rotary is nothing. We are an action-oriented service organisation. Rotarians make Rotary live — by example — by direct involvement. Your action gives life to Rotary. That is why I am asking you to“Put life into Rotary — Your life”.

He was married to Jean and have four children; eight grandchildren.

The family has asked for privacy. May his Soul Rest In Peace.

Congratulations !!
