Arivu is a shared endeavor of a group of parents, teachers, students and citizens to explore possibilities of a better education system, a more sustainable life style and a culture of respect, joy and proud. Since the establishment of the school in a farm of a friend in the year 2008, the school has come a long way. Now the school has its own campus – thanks to its well wishers and supporters, it has a staff of around 25 (which includes teachers, visiting faculty, resource persons and admin) and around 40 students. The school is now all set to transform into a learning centre. It'll host a resource centre for community, a school , a butterfly park in an environmental friendly campus. ROTARY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Rotary Mysore Midtown hosted a Multi District Leadership Development Program involving 7 Districts from Central and Southern India in Mysore on 1st and 2nd of March 2014. The program was held at RCL Premises and was attended by over 75 District Leaders from across these Districts.

Our planning of the event began several months ago with a core team formed to organize

such a prestigious event in Mysore. Rotary Leadership Institute is an International body associated with Rotary International engaged in providing leadership skills and Rotary Information in over 190 countries where Rotary is present. The Development program has four stages and helps a Rotary Leader hone his Leadership skills at the end of the program. At Mysore RLI planned to conduct P II, PIII & Faculty Development Program for two days.

The Inaugural session began at 10 AM on 1st March Saturday at RCL Hall after breakfast provided to the delegates. Our beloved DG Rtn Gururaj was the chief guest and Faculty Trainers PDG Rtn Frank Wargo, Vice Chair of RLI International from the US, Rtn PDG Subhash Saraf, Secretary RLI South Asia and Rtn PP Binod Khaitan, Vice Chair, RLI South Asia were the guests of honor.

Further there were a team of six Faculty Trainers from the neighboring RI District 3190 led by PDG Rtn Rajendra Rai who incidentally was instrumental in guiding us on organizing this unique event.

The Development program is purely experiential and participatory in nature and faculty would act as discussion facilitators. The first day saw over 33 Rotary Leaders undertaking P II program and 12 Rotary Leaders undergoing P III program with experienced Faculty facilitating the sessions. A working but sumptuous and tasty lunch was provided to participants and intermittent tea breaks were provided for refreshment. Day two had P III and FOT programs and Rotary Leaders

from across Districts enjoyed the learning environment provided. The subscription for each day was Rs 600 per person.

The program culminated on Sunday with a

valedictory session chaired by our DG in which the faculty were recognized. Certificates were distributed to all those who attended the program.

Hats off to all those Midtowners who worked towards the success of the event and added another feather in the cap of Midtown.

The GPS-enabled Cuff is a stylish take on the conventional 'alert button' devices, and allows the user to choose their own list of contacts.

Designed to appeal to a wide range of women, from seniors living alone to college students, the Cuff line of GPS jewelry comes in an array of necklaces, bracelets and key chains. Once the Cuff alert button has been triggered, the device will begin to contact the circle of friends, and will not stop until someone responds. Contacts are signals by a vibration in their own Cuff device or by a message sent to their phone, which includes the identity of the 'caller' and their location when the alert was triggered.

Rotary releases US$35.9 million to fight polio in Africa and Asia

The continued fight to eliminate polio gets an additional $36 million boost from Rotary in support of polio immunization activities and research to be carried out by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which aims to end the disabling viral disease worldwide by 2018.

The funding commitment comes at a critical time as the eradication initiative focuses on stopping polio in the three countries where the virus remains endemic: Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. The Rotary grants include $6.8 million for Afghanistan, $7.7 million for Nigeria and $926,000 for Pakistan.

Grant amounts are based on requests from eradication initiative partners UNICEF and the World Health Organization, which work with the governments of polio-affected countries to plan and carry out immunization activities.
