Doctor's Day at Midtown

Thank you Doctors of Midtown. It is because of your selfless service that the world is living better.

Celebrated on July 1 all across India (other countries celebrate on different dates) to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. President's dinner – “Candid” thoughts pour inFrank thoughts and sentiments poured in on Saturday at President's dinner. 2 of the greatest showmen of Midtown

taking the mantle of leadership (SBC & Dr.Prahlad, of course!!) led the club to new heights and it was time to bid adieu to the coveted post & that they did it in style. The delayed start was to ensure that most of the families arrived to witness the

closing remarks of the President & Secretary. Rtn.Raghavendra came onstage after Rtn.Bhanu did the welcoming and spoke with ease trying to floor the audience with his wit. His talk hinted that he was enroute to bigger roles in the district in the coming years. His comments were replete with punches raising quite a few eyebrows.

The duo onstage were felicitated amidst thunderous applause by the colorful audience. Beating the traditional reporting by the Secretary, Rtn.Prahlad mentioned that all of the projects were covered in the bulletin and he would refrain reading thru the list again, instead he spoke on how the board thought of projects & activities in a different way. He narrated various instances showcasing the “different” thought process they adopted. Rtn.Prahlad was in his

elements and the thoughts evidently flowed smoothly as they were coming straight from his heart. Dr.Prahlad did not forget to mention and thank his family Ann.Prabha, Annette.Prerana & Annette.Pranav for their unstinted support.

It was then time for the formidable SBC to give the finishing touch for the wonderful year. Rtn.Bhanu began with extreme confidence and started by thanking profusely to all those who supported his journey as the president of the Midtown. He first called Ann.Kamalakshi & Annette.Sindhu onstage and thanked them for all the support they extended thru the year. Rtn.Bhanu taking a “different” order, started off with thanking the much needed support staff of RMM secretariat showing his true nature of appreciating good things in life. He disclosed surprising statistics that 67 Rotarians and their families were part of one project or other during the year and attributed the success of the club to such tremendous support by Midtown families. Rtn.Bhanu showered words of praise on every single person's contributing to the year's achievements. His words clearly displayed his humbleness and gratitude. Rtn.Raghu spoke briefly and spoke about Rtn.Bhanu's grit and commitment, he said that Rtn.Bhanu's respect to his mother was something to be emulated. Stalwarts of Midtown, contributors – physical, mental & monetary were all spoken with very high regards parting with a memento by the formidable SBC. Before the marathon (deservingly, though!!) recognitions ended, Rtn.Bhanu called upon Dr.Prahlad's family and honored them for all the support extended thru the year. Visibly satisfied with the way things went Rtn.Bhanu adjourned the meeting for dinner. The show was filled with sentiment and it was apparent that SBC and his team would carry memories of “Engage Rotary, Change lives” year for a very long time to come. Let Midtown spirits continue forever.]

RI Dist. 3180 is located in the southern part of South Indian State of Karnataka. It has an area of 49100 Sq kms with a populaon of around 11 million. Presently the Rotary District consists of 8 revenue districts namely Chamarajanagar, Mysore, Kodagu, Mangalore, Udupi, Shimoga, Chikmagalur & Hassan. Currently there are 136 clubs and around 5400 Rotarians (based on the recent semi annual report).

Considering the geographical area, number of clubs, travelling me and distance it is felt that it is good to go for a bifurcaon of the district. With this in addion to the administrave convenience there will be opportunies for both the bifurcated parts to develop independently .

In order to bifurcate the District, a district bifurcaon proposal commiee was formed in the Rotary year 2011-12 itself. The district bifurcaon proposal commiee consists of the chairman and 11 representaves elected one from each zone within the districts and the DG, IPDG, DGE, DGN and DGND as ex officio members.

The commiee met periodically to arrive at the final conclusion. Inially opinion regarding bifurcaon from individual clubs was taken in wring. Out of 134 clubs at that point of me 104 clubs agreed for bifurcaon, 17 clubs was not in favour of bifurcaon and 13 remained silent. With the majority of the clubs of the district agreeing for bifurcaon the commiee decided to bifurcate the district based on the revenue districts. Accordingly Chamarajanagar, Mysore, Kodagu & Mangalore districts will remain as one part and Udupi, Shimoga, Chikmagalur & Hassan districts on the other part. This decision was also shared

thwith the past Governors of the district in the recently held College of Governors meeng on 24 May 2014 at Shimoga. The College of Governors also expressed their consent in favour of the district bifurcaon in the said patron menoned below.

“About Us” asked Midtown patrons to voice

their opinions regarding Midtown's activities during

Rtn.Bhanu's Presidentship and here are responses

that we received. As the saying goes in Latin - Voice of the People is

Voice of the God (Vox Populi Vox Dei)

Mysore Mid Towners have been " My Dream

Rotarians " so far as their Fellowship and Service

activities are concerned. Where-ever they are,

whether in a Club weekly meeting, or a District

Meet, or in an International Convention, they look

so strong that I always see them unmatched. I have

seen them give a Health Care ambulance for Semi

Urban population and rural around Mysore, I have

seen them give a State of the art School for needy

children, I have seen them stepping into the shoes of

Indian Rural Life through their " Masthhalli Jaathre",

and so on and so forth.Their Club e bulletin "About Us" has been an

excellent source of information and motivation to

Rotarians, Anns Annets and Johns , showcasing the

entire fabric of the Club which is worth emulating by

others.I look forward to joining RC Mysore Mid Town if I

am transferred to Royal City of Mysore in my future

Rotary Life. Good going Rtn Rakesh and Team...

Regards and best wishes from Suma also...- PDG. Rtn. H L Ravi

District Governor 2011-12.RI Dist. 3180

Undisputedly the award goes to MIDTOWN

SPIRIT. Highlighting this year, there was no dearth of

community service, club service and the other

activities despite no formal fund raising, restricted

mobility of our president, busily scheduled

secretary and we had to upkeep the prestige of the

DGs home zone. Though the president, lacked sight,

he had VISION. Though raising funds was difficult,

everyone rose to the occasion. FELLOWSHIP and

TEAM SPRIT was at its best. It was a pleasure

attending meetings and all of us looked forward to

get-together. May the spirit PREVAIL AND

PERPETUATE - Rtn. Harish K. B

Congratulations to you on your success as the

Editor of 'About Us'.I make sure that I read every issue and I must say

that it has only become better with every edition.I understand that it's not an easy task what with

your professional and personal commitments.Your focus has been on the content in the

bulletin and not so much on the frills. It was very refreshing to read reports and

articles by new members. You have certainly

provided a platform for us amateurs to put forth our

views and also practice our literary skills. It may sound very cliched to say that 'you rocked'

Vox Populi Vox Deihowever I can't resist saying that Midtown rocked.

Wishing the new editor all the best and assuring all

support.-Ann.Chandrika Raghu

Rtn.Bhanu is a RANK Student of Midtown, I have no

doubts about that. He is always cool, calm &

composed. As a true leader, he always gives credit to

his team for any successes and takes the brickbats

himself. It was a pleasure to be a part of his team.

Entire board of 2013-14 was brimming with positive

vibration. To top it all, real “Aapathbandhava”,

Rtn.Dr.Prahlad as Hon. Secretary, what else can

Midtown ask for?. Result was known from day1, Best

Club in district 3180. I take this opportunity to once

again congratulate President Rtn.Bhanu &

Hon.Secretary Rtn.Dr. Prahlad for making “Engage

Rotary, Change Lives” year a memorable one.

-Rtn.Umesh K

Yes it was a dream run for midtown. We enjoyed

reading about it all in the bulletin. Congratulations

for bringing out 52 issues. - Ann. Anupama

The bonding between the midtown rotarians is

amazing. Though being very new in Midtown it has

taken me very little time to connect with the club.

Many Rotarians have made me feel that I am a part of

this club since ages. Few trips like that of Kutta gave me

a taste of Midtown camaraderie, which I cherish the

most. I was encouraged to contribute to our unique

weekly bulletin. During coming year, I want to

participate in as many projects as possible. I

congratulate Rtn Bhanu, Rtn Dr Prahlad and their team

for their effective & efficient management and the

awesome achievement.- Rtn. Dr. Pramod Gubbi

I am pleased to go through your bulletins. In fact

so many people must be appreciating your

Bulletins. There is so much 2 learn from your

bulletins. I would like to say I must associate with

you to run a bulletin like yours. You have made your

club members proud with your talent. All d best. -Rtn. Pius Saldanha

Rotary Club of Mysore Royal

I thouroughly enjoyed being a member of

Midtown. It was a pleasure to participate in projects

and enjoy the fellowship. Rtn.Bhanu poured in all

his professional capabilities and Rtn.Dr.Prahlad

complimented the cause thru his innovative and

constructive thoughts. We are proud of the

achievements of Rtn.Bhanu and his board of

directors for bagging the #1 position in Dist.3180. I

personally congratulate the leaders for their

commendable efforts. - Rtn. Ravindra Babu

First Integrated System to Generate Both Electricity and Heat.

The world's first integrated solar system able to generate both electricity and heat has been installed in a house in Sydney, Australia.

The system was created by Bluescope, an Australian steel manufacturer, which some help from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The roof-mounted array is made up of thin-film solar PVs and a solar duct system that have been integrated into steel roofing tiles. The top layer functions like a conventional solar panel, harvesting solar energy for electricity, while the dual layers trap heat between them to be distributed for heating water and the interior of the home.

International Fellowship of Rotarian Doctors helps reduce mother and child mortality rates in India

Getting startedRotary's Future Vision Pilot Plan gave members of

CALMED (Collaborative Action in Lowering of Maternity Encountered Deaths) is one such programme. Our template to reduce maternal mortality and mobility is based on evidence and the premise that maternal mortality is not only a medical issue, but also a public health and cultural/societal issue.

Developing the programmeThe concept of the CALMED programme was
