Process Description

The standard PSA system is comprised of four majoroperations: Feed Air Compression; Feed Air Pre-treat-ment; Adsorption/Desorption; Product Delivery.

Feed Air Compression

Atmospheric air is elevated to high pressure by apackaged air compressor.

Feed Air Pre-treatment

The high-pressure feed air from the compressor passesthrough a mist eliminator to remove water droplets andentrained oil. The air then passes through the carbonfilter to remove oil vapors prior to entering the buffertank.

Adsorption/Desorption

The �treated� air enters an adsorption tower where it iscontacted with carbon molecular sieve to remove oxygen.�Purified� nitrogen passesto product delivery operation.

When the oxygen capturing capacity of the onstreamadsorption tower is diminished, the feed flow processvalves switch to a second adsorption tower. The firstadsorption tower is then depressurised rapidly andpurged to remove the adsorbed oxygen. When the secondbed becomes saturated with oxygen, the feed flow processvalves switch back to the first adsorption tower and thecycle begins again.

Product Delivery

The �purified� nitrogen enters a nitrogen receiver tank thatprovides gas to the adsorber vessels during product re-pressurisation and nitrogen buffer capacity. The nitrogenpurity is continuously monitored by an oxygen analyserprior to delivery to the customer houseline.

Should the oxygen level rise above the preset alarm point,the product delivery valves isolate any off-specificationproduct from the customer houseline. The system willautomatically enter a �clean-up� mode and productdelivery will resume when the nitrogen purity is withinspecification. A flow control system prevents systemoverdraw.

Electricals

Standard wiring and controls are furnished in accordancewith the International Standards. All individual electri-cal components are chosen for their heavy duty indus-trial quality. European systems are designed to IEC stan-dards and meet CE plating requirements.

Compressors

Absolut supplied compressors are generally designed perthe manufacturer�s standard unless otherwise specified.

Noise Level

85 dB(A) time weighted average at 3 feet (1 meter)standard, in free field area with no other noise sourcesconsidered.

Typical Scope of Supply and Schedule

Absolut Nitrogen PSA units can be supplied on an on-sitebasis, where we install and operates the equipmentn the customers behalf or on a Sale of Equipment basishere we transfers asset ownership to the customer.

Typical ex-factory delivery for standard units is 18 to 20 weeksafter receipt of order. For On-site supply units, the ship-ping, install and commission activities typically add twoweeks to the ex-factory delivery.

Pressure Piping

Standard piping conforms with American National Stan-dards Institute (ANSI) B31.1. Fittings 2 inches and larger areforged steel standard weight/schedule 40 butt weld typeper ANSI B16.9, with flanges per ANSI B16.5. Other codescan be satisfied in high specification applications.

Pressure Vessels

Standard pressure vessels are designed, fabricated, andstamped in accordance with the American Society of Me-chanical Engineers (ASME Code for Unfired Pressure Ves-sels, Section VIII, Division I). European systems are de-signed per the European PED.
