BIBM Academic Calendar is the Roadmap of BIBM for a particular year. Every year BIBM prepares Academic Calendar incorporating its regular Professional Development Programs, Education and Research Programs. Calendar preparation process of BIBM starts with the formation of Academic Calendar Committee comprising its faculties. The committee prepares a draft by identifying the training courses, training workshops, research workshops, review workshops and research projects etc. to be included in the Academic Calendar for the next year. Then the draft is finalized in a Need Assessment Meeting with the participation of head of the training institutes and representatives of all member banks of BIBM. After finalizing the draft of the Academic Calendar, it is placed before the BIBM Executive Committee. Accommodating the recommendations of the BIBM Executive Committee, the proposed academic activities are placed before the Governing Board for approval.

The activities of BIBM expanded over the years. In the beginning, BIBM had to concentrate on training of the entry-level officers due to absence of appropriate training infrastructure in the banking industry. However, with the passage of time it assumed the responsibility of imparting training to the mid and senior level officials of the banking sector. In the early nineties, the financial sector of Bangladesh underwent a number of reform measures as part of structural adjustment in the economy. In response to these reforms, the banking sector of Bangladesh demanded up-gradation of capabilities of managerial-level officials as the banks expanded their horizon of operations. Practically, growing expansion, cross-country linkages, and crises experiences have continuously been contributing and reshaping and changing global banking activities. In line with that, BIBM regularly updates its training areas, contents and methods. Especially, introduction of research based professional development programs brought notable dimensional changes in the research activities of BIBM. And, by the time these programs (Review Workshops and Research Workshops) received tremendous applause of the banking community. Moreover, BIBM is working on building global networks. The institute is in the process of introducing joint certification courses with EBTN (European Banking Training and Financial Services Network) and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany.

In 1997, BIBM entered into education program through offering a post-graduate program in bank management - the MBM. Initially, the program was conducted during day time. Later on, responding to the demand from in-service professionals, MBM-Evening program was launched. Initially the programs were run under CPGS (Center for Post Graduate Studies) affiliated with National University. In 2012, University of Dhaka has given fresh affiliation to Dhaka School of Bank Management (DSBM) to run MBM programs at BIBM. Beside training and education, BIBM's current activities include undertaking research, organizing seminars and publishing reports on the issues relevant to the banking and financial sector. BIBM publishes Bank Parikrama (a quarterly journal), Banking Research Series (a yearly publication of the keynote papers of BIBM research workshops), Banking Review Series (a yearly publication of the review workshop papers), Research Monographs (publications of the BIBM research projects), Independent Review of the Banking Sector and Non-bank Financial Sector of Bangladesh (annual publications), BIBM Bulletin (a quarterly publication) and Lecture on ‘Ethics in Banking’ (a yearly publication of the lecture) on a regular basis. Since inception till December, 2014 BIBM

trained a total of 74,668 officers of banks and financial institutions, and in 2014, the number of attendees in training programs was 3560. Moreover, 2155 mid and senior level bankers took part in the Review workshop, Research workshop, Seminar and research based/discussion programs. Further, 725 MBM graduates passed out from BIBM during the period 1997-2014 and almost all of them have joined the banking profession. Besides, 201 MBM-Evening graduates passed out from BIBM since inception in 2006. As part of consultancy services, in recent time, BIBM helped developing capacity of AIBF (Afghanistan Institute of Banking and Finance) sponsored by the World Bank; and performed Training Need Assessment for InM sponsored by DFID. The institute also organizes special training programs and provides support in recruiting bank officials in response to the special requisition of our member banks.

Following the regular process of formulating Academic Calendar of BIBM, a draft Academic Calendar was presented by the Academic Calendar Committee in the Need Assessment Meeting held in November, 2014. The Academic Calendar of BIBM for the year 2015 has been approved by the Governing Board for onward implementation.

I congratulate Academic Calendar Committee, faculty colleagues and the support team for successfully accomplishing the task of formulating Academic Calendar 2015. Despite consultation with the stakeholders, some of the training needs might remain unaddressed. BIBM welcomes suggestions from all concerned for inclusion of unaddressed issues and further improvement of its activities.

(Dr. Toufic Ahmad Choudhury) Director General

Dhaka School of Bank Management (DSBM)

Masters in Bank Management (MBM) Program The Masters in Bank Management (MBM), introduced in 1997, is a two-year full time day program. After successful competition of the first 16th batch of MBM program under the affiliation of the national University, the program has been affiliated with the Dhaka University in 2012. As a requirement of affiliation under Dhaka University, BIBM has created Dhaka School of Bank Management (DSBM) for smooth running of the MBM program. The program consists of six terms. Each term has duration of four months. The objective of the MBM program is to develop the skills and analytical abilities needed for the efficient handling of affairs of banks and financial institutions. The program also aims to instill innovation, judgment and creativity among the students. A graduate with at least sixteen years of schooling in any field of study with minimum one first division/class and no third division/ class in any certificate /degree examination is eligible to apply. Officers from member banks and financial institutions duly nominated by the authorities may also apply. Eighty students are selected in each batch through Written Test and Viva-Voce. The MBM program constitutes course work of 66 credit hours. A student shall have to complete twenty courses (3 credit hours for each course). In addition, every student must write a dissertation (in the 2nd year) weighing 3 credit hours and appear at four viva-voce (at the end of I, II, IV and V terms) weighing 3 credit hours. The MBM program has earned a very good reputation in Bangladesh and abroad. Almost all the graduates of MBM program have been absorbed in different banks and financial institutions.

Masters in Bank Management-Evening (MBM-Evening) Program

BIBM has introduced Masters in Bank Management-Evening (MBM-Evening) program, mainly for the professional bankers in 2006. After successful competition of the first 6th batch of MBM program under the affiliation of the national University, the program has been affiliated with the Dhaka University in 2012. MBM-Evening program is also run by DSBM. The program consists of seven terms. Each term has duration of four months. A graduate with at least sixteen years of schooling in any field of study with no third division or class in any certificate /degree examination is eligible to apply for admission to the MBM-Evening program. In each batch 50 students are selected for admission in the program on merit basis. The course curriculum and regulation of MBM-Evening program is identical to that of MBM program.
