    WHAT IS A.I.A.T ?

Academic Institutional Analytical Tool (A.I.A.T) is a tool which aims atassisting the work process of any institution by undertaking the process ofautomation.

Academic Institutional Analytical Tool is a consistent suite of tools that helpsto optimize teacher student relationships and examination processes.

To address the daily academic issues such as student learning and practice, thisanalytical tool includes a sound question bank infrastructure that allows togather all the relevant information about all the course credit, organize itconsistently and present before students in a well formatted way.

It plays an essential role in gaining greater insights about normal processes andacademic institutional processes and in applying this knowledge consistentlyduring all process interactions via Discussion portal.

    SCOPE OF PROJECT

The scope of this project is:

To extend Learning Management Systems to provide an easy

customizable environment for faculty and examinationcontrollers to form a database of questions over aDistributed Network (or may be Intranet) which could thus

be used to generate examination papers for conductingexaminations as well as for practice of students.

    Introductionto Learning Management Systems

A Learning Management System (or LMS) is a term used to describe softwaretools designed to manage user learning interventions.

The value-add for LMSs is the extensive range of complementary functionality

    they offer.

Learner self-service, training workflow, the provision of on-line learning ,on-line assessment, management of continuous professional education (CPE),collaborative learning and training resource management are some of the

additional dimensions to leading Learning Management Systems.

Most LMSs are web-based to facilitate "anytime, anyplace, any pace" access tolearning content and administration.

LMSs are based on a variety of development platforms, from Java EE basedarchitectures to Microsoft .NET, and usually employ the use of a robustdatabase back-end.

LMSs focus on different educational, administrative, and deploymentrequirements.

    PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE :

    PHP (PERL Hypertext Preprocessor):

PHP is one of the most popular server side scripting languages runningtoday. It is used for creating dynamic WebPages that interact with theuser offering customized information.

PHP is fast, stable, secure, easy to use and open source (free).

PHP code is inserted directly into the HTML that makes up a website. When a visitor comes to the website, the code is executed.

Since PHP is a server side technology, the user does not need any specialbrowser or plug-ins to see the PHP in action.

    COMPARATIVE STUDY

MOODLE Vs. A.I.A.T. Some Learning Management Systems available do have some support for

analytical and examination processes of which MOODLE stands out to be thebest with a separate effective quiz and reporting model with it. But it qualifiesonly effective for normal assessments and not for major examinations which

are an integral part of any academic process.

The Moodle's quiz module has options for timing, display, attempts, grades, security, etc while adding / updating a quiz. It also allows options for editing aquiz, taking its preview before it is inducted in the system, generating a reportof the quiz taken up by the student, etc

Moodle thus provides feature for taking up a quiz which is pretty much static instructure, nature and conducting purposes. Moreover it has limited featuresand flexibility.

A.I.A.T. strives at implementing really what examination process is instead of amere normal quiz.

FUTURE SCOPE A further comprehensive template support for examination paper pattern, such

as a mechanism to effectively edit templates online can also be added.

Generating Question paper as per schedule.

Provide Question Bank to the students, using the database of questions.

Other than just teachers being provided the stats and reports, students can alsobe provided with several statistics and graphical tools options (such as piecharts, bar charts, etc) to evaluate and deduce their standings in the class

    against others.

To provide secure connections (https) for live examination, disabling cache andenhancing security mechanisms.

  • 8/13/2019 Academic Institutional Analytical Tool (AIAT)

    24/41

For practice purposes, maintaining students cache at their local systems (toreduce network requirements and to cope up with weaker internet links).

Providing planner tools such as Gantt-Charts, etc to the teachers to help themplan their course progress along with students progress.

To provide statistical analysis and related graphical heuristics for analyzingresults and patterns.

Providing feature for generation of progress reports and mark sheets, which

can be cumulative of multiple examinations thus taken up so far.

To provide other test/examination results data importing capabilities.
