ACADEMIC YEAR COURSE CODE / N° Weekly Contact Hours Credit Hours 2011-2012 TERM II ENGLISH ELCS 110 18 3 Prerequisite(s): ELCS100 Compulsory [√] Optional [ ] Course Objectives: This course aims to: 1. help students understand the main ideas of text on most topics. 2. enable students to produce clear text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantage and disadvantage of various options. 3. help students have control of basic grammar rules. 4. enable students to deal with occasional word order problems. 5. help students understand a wide range of longer texts and generally recognize their meaning. 6. enable students to summarize information from different spoken and written sources. 7. help students produce clear texts on main subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns. 8. enable students to use more and more complex sentences with occasional errors.
