Project Purpose

• Purpose: (1) Building on work completed in Green IT, conduct a systems analysis for the creation of an energy management dashboard for Acadia and (2) Design a functional mock-up

• Approach: Development in Phases

• Timeline: – Winter 2011 – Green IT RA/mock-up– Winter 2012 - SAD – Summer 2012 – First phase implementation (kWh &

residences, other features/content)

What are Dashboards?

• Software programs that track and display the exact amount of energy being consumed in a building at any given time

Why install a dashboard?

• Next step in energy management at Acadia

• Education and engagement (e.g. awareness, competitions http://aiae.acadiau.ca/campus-climate-challenge.html)

• Real-time data helps monitor and manage energy use

• Helps occupants modify behaviors (e.g. car dashboard)

Project Overview

• Requirements for data management/display

• Scope: – electricity use (kWh)

– fuel consumption (L)

– GHG greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e)

– Water (L)

• Integration with Acadia CMS website?

• Primary features and functions (e.g. energy data, description, competition, green features, tips)

• Design mock-up

• Future: secondary features (e.g. app, widgets, social media)
