Here at Xavier University School of Medicine, we offer a 5 ½ year Pre-Med program specifically designed for students right out of high school. This program prepares them to enter into a medical program without first obtaining a bachelors degree. If they perform well in all of their Pre-Med classes, they are granted automatic admission into our traditional MD program. Our 4-year MD program will be comprised of two parts, basic sci-ence and clinical science. The first 2 years of basic science course-work will take place on our campus in Aruba, and will consist of lectures and lab work. This portion of the program also includes a full prep program for Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). After successful completion of Step 1, the final 2 years of the program begin. This is the clinical science section of the program, where the students complete their clinical rota-tions in hospitals throughout the U.S. Our program is designed to help our students match for residency and gain state licensure in the field they desire.

Aruba’s Attractions

The BeachesThe beaches of Aruba are considered to be among the cleanest and most spectacular in the Caribbean region. They typically consist of powder-fine white sand, perfect for soak-ing up the Caribbean sun. Famous beaches in Aruba include Eagle Beach which has been singled out as the number one Caribbean beach in a USA Today survey of travel writers, travel agents, and frequent travelers. Palm Beach, set against a backdrop of Aruba’s leading resorts, was voted the best family-friendly beach in the world by The Travel Channel and Condé Nast Traveler also ranked it as one of the best beaches in the world.

Scuba DivingOne of the most unforgettable experiences while in Aruba is scuba diving. Divers see a fab-ulous array of corals and fish, occasionally even spotting a seahorse or watching stingrays hover above the seabed. Swimming slowly over the corals, you’re bound to see lobsters, moray eels and other exotic sea life. If you’re lucky, you may even come across an energetic dolphin or a gentle sea turtle. Aruba is also known as one of the main wreck diving destinations in the Caribbean, allowing divers to visit eleven wrecks and over twenty dive sites.

Horseback RidingThere are many ways to explore Aruba and one of them is on a horse. You don’t need to be an experienced rider to join a horseback riding tour; all ranches have well-trained horses and friendly, knowledgeable tour guides. Most ranches allow children of 6 years and older to ride their own horse. Children under 6 years can join their parents on the horse. You can enjoy Aruba’s nature during a trip through the Arikok National Park, the Sand Dunes, Natural Pool and Bridge, or you can opt for a relaxing ride along Aruba’s coastline.

Aruba’s Attractions

Wind & Kite SurfingAruba’s constant trade winds have made the Island a very popular spot for windsurfers. Beginners to hard-core enthusiasts will find suitable locations for their skill levels from flat-water sailing to challenging wave conditions. Aruba is host to the annual Hi-Winds Windsurfing Pro-Am Grand Prix World Cup event in June.

CarnivalYou have not lived until you have experienced the spirit of Carnival as it is celebrated in Aru-ba! Carnival means weeks of events that bring you colorfully decorated floats, contagious-ly throbbing music, luxuriously costumed groups of celebrants of all ages, King & Queen elections, electrifying street parties, and torch light parades that wind their way through the streets at night. Where else can you find Antillean “tumba” music, the Calypso and steel bands of the English Caribbean, the salsa beat of Latin countries, plus multiple marching bands. The two-month long celebration culminates with the all-day Grand Parade, with everyone and everything all decked out.

ToursAre you planning to do something different than lying down on the beach all day? Aruba has plenty of different options to choose from and you can make it as low-key or high-en-ergy as you want. Aruba offers a wide selection of tours and activities on the water and on land. If you are a water lover, sign up for scuba diving lessons, hop on board a catamaran for snorkeling fun, get on the submarine for a view of Aruba’s underwater world, or take an Aruba deep sea fishing tour.Let professional tour guides show you around the island in an air-conditioned bus, jeep or on horseback. You can also rent your own jeep, mountain bike or ATV to drive around the island to discover all the beauty Aruba has to offer.
