3 Introduction3.1 Description

The APC-AMC2-4R4CF (also called AMC2-4R4, AMC2, or controller) is equipped with fourindependent interfaces for RS-485 type readers. It is able to control up to four doors with areader in each direction and up to eight doors with a reader in one direction only. The APC-AMC2-4WCF (also called AMC2-4W , AMC2, or controller) is equipped with fourindependent interfaces for Wiegand type readers. It is able to control two doors with a readerin each direction and up to four doors with a reader in one direction only. The extension module AMC2-4WE is equipped with four Wiegand type reader-interfaces pluseight inputs and eight outputs. Hence with the AMC2-4WE it is possible to double the numberof readers on an AMC2-4W from 4 to 8.The AMC2-16ION board provides inputs and outputs to control doors and other componentsindependent of access control system. The extension board AMC2-16IOE can be used with an AMC2 controller. It serves additionalinputs and outputs. The AMC2-4R4 (also called AMC2 or controller) access control unit provides complete accesscontrol for a single entrance. Two card readers (or keyboard card readers) can be connectedand controlled via the two Wiegand interfaces plus up to two readers via the RS-485 interfaceand one via the RS-232 interface. The RS-232 interface here is not used for simple access control readers, but rather forsupplementary identification methods such as biometric (finger print, iris scan) scanners orlong-range readers.

All necessary information for access verification is stored in a battery buffered on-boardmemory and a Compact Flash (CF) memory card. This guarantees autonomous accessdecisions and complete access registrations even if the management host system is offline. The built in compact flash card provides adequate storage capability for cardholders andevents.

The AMC2-4R4 electronics are completely covered by a plastic housing. The liquid crystaldisplay provides all important status information.

This guarantees autonomous accessdecisions and complete access registrations even if the management host system is offline. The built in compact flash card provides adequate storage capability for cardholders andevents.

The AMC2-4W electronics are completely covered by a plastic housing. The liquid crystaldisplay provides all important status information.

Using the AMC2-4R4 gives you the full functionality and the offline capability of a completeaccess control system in each room. This leads to an excellent reliability and a very highredundancy without extra cost. The AMC2-4WE can not be deployed as an independent controller but only as an extensionmodule for the AMC2-4W. Control and access decisions and bookings are carried out by theAMC2-4W alone.

Notice! The AMC2-4WE can only be used with AMC2-4W. As it provides Wiegand interfaces it cannotbe coupled with an AMC2-4R4.

The AMC2-4W can be extended by a maximum of one AMC2-4WE plus a maximum of three I/Oextension modules. The I/O extension modules AMC2-8IOEAMC2-16IOE (in any combination)are, like the AMC2-4WE, connected via the AMC2-4W’s extension interface.

Notice! The AMC2-4WE has no display. The information about the input and outputs will be shown onspecial pages of the AMC2 display.

As the extension modules contain neither memory nor display they are controlled andmonitored entirely by the AMC2-4W.The AMC2-4W can have an additional interface extension module AMC2-4WE, so that thenumber of inputs and outputs can grow up to 64.

Notice! An AMC2-4WE provides signals only to the AMC2 to which it is connected. Signal transfer toanother AMC2 is not possible.

The signal settings and parametrization of the readers connected to the extension module, arecarried out by the configuration applications in the access control system and by theAMC2-4W to which it belongs. The AMC2-4R4 standalone board (hereafter also referred as AMC2 or controller) are deployedvia a dedicated OPC-Server. Though similar in appearance to the AMC2-4W and AMC2-4R4controllers, the AMC2-4R4 has no reader interfaces, but is intended instead for the efficientmonitoring and control of many devices, especially entrances, simultaneously. It is not anextension board like the AMC2-16IOE, AMC2-8IOE, and AMC2-16IE but possesses its own CPUand host interfaces. The AMC2-4R4 has 16 analog inputs and 16 relay outputs. Via its inputs the module candetermine the status (e.g. locked, closed or open) of entrances, windows or other devices, and its output signals can lock/unlock doors, or trigger alarms with external monitoringsystems in the case of an intrusion. If the 8 and the 8 outputs are insufficient for your needs, then up to three extensions(AMC2-16IOE , AMC2-8IOE, or AMC2-16IE) can be connected, thus providing the AMC2-4R4with a maximum of 64 inputs and 64 outputs for configuration. The AMC2 has eight analog input devices and eight relay outputs. With its analog inputdevices, the AMC2 verifies, for example, if a lock is closed or open. The relay outputs can beused to activate lock mechanisms if access is granted, or activate an external alarm system ifan intrusion or system alert is detected. If the eight inputs and eight outputs of the AMC2 are not enough to configure the system up tothree additional extensions AMC2-16IOE can be connected. The extension offers 16 additionalinputs and outputs. The AMC2-16IOE electronic is completely covered by a plastic housing.

Notice! The AMC2-16IOE has no display. The information about the input and outputs will be shownon special pages of the AMC2 display.

The AMC2-16IOE contains 16 analog inputs and 16 relay outputs. In analogy with the AMC2 itverifies if a lock is open or closed respectively activates alarms or lock mechanisms. An AMC2-4W can have an additional interface extension module AMC2-4WE, so that thenumber of inputs and outputs grow up to 64.

2020-01 | V02 | Installation manual Bosch Access Systems V.B.

Notice! The RS-485 interface can be used either for the host connection or to connect extensionboards. If extension boards are used then the host connection must be by ethernet.

The AMC2-4R4 possesses six analog inputs and six relay outputs. It receives state informationabout the entrance via the inputs and transmits door control signals and/or notifications toexternal monitoring systems via the outputs. If the six inputs and six outputs of the AMC2-4R4are not sufficient then up to 3 extensions (AMC2-8IOE, AMC2-16IOE or AMC2-16IE) with 8 or16 inputs and outputs respectively can be connected.

Notice! This controller is currently a project version.

The allocation of the signals is determined by "door models" which, when selected, reservethe necessary reader connections and contacts for their usage. This default allocation can beoverriden and adapted to circumstances using the parameterization tools in the access controlsystem, where any free contact can have a signal allocated.

The AMC2-4R4 can communicate upstream to the host computer using RS-485 multi‑dropped,RS-232 or 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet. It has eight analog input devices and eight relay outputs. With its analog input devices, the AMC2-4R4 verifies, for example, if a lock is closed or open. The relay outputs can be used to activate lock mechanisms if access is granted, or activate theburglar alarm system if an intrusion or system alert is detected. If the eight inputs and eightoutputs on board are not enough to configure the system, up to three additional extensions(AMC2-8IOE, AMC2-16IE, or AMC2-16IOE) can be connected. The extensions offer 8 or 16additional inputs and outputs. The setup procedure for an AMC2-4R4 is made very simple and fast by the use of doortemplates. Once selected, all the inputs and outputs are predefined. These settings can bechanged to choose every free contact of the controller or a connected extension.

3.1.1 Extension AMC2-16IOEThe extension board AMC2-16IOE can be used with an AMC2 controller. It serves additionalinputs and outputs.

Figure 3.11: The extension board AMC2-16IOE

The AMC2 has eight analog input devices and eight relay outputs. With its analog inputdevices, the AMC2 verifies, for example, if a lock is closed or open. The relay outputs can beused to activate lock mechanisms if access is granted, or activate an external alarm system ifan intrusion or system alert is detected. The AMC2-16IOE electronics are completely covered by a plastic housing.

Notice! The AMC2-16IOE has no display. The information about the input and outputs will be shownon special pages of the AMC2 display.

Notice! An AMC2-16IOE provides signals only to the AMC2 to which it is connected. Signal transfer toanother AMC2 is not possible.

Notice!Depending on the software system up to 3 extension modules can be connected at random.

3.1.2 Extension AMC2-8IOETo optimize the utilization of the available signals the extension module can be delivered in areduced version, too. The AMC2-8IOE has eight inputs and eight outputs. The places of thepluggable screw connectors are on one side of the module - the other side will be closed bythe housing.

Figure 3.12: Extension module AMC2 8IOE

Notice! The AMC2-8IOE is identical in all respects to the AMC2-16IOE except in the number of inputsand outputs. Information in this manual refers to all three extensions described here, unlessexplicitly stated otherwise.

3.1.3 Extension AMC2-16IEAnother variant of the extension modul AMC2-16IOE is the AMC2-16IE which offers connectorsfor input signals only. The inputs are located at the same positions as on the AMC2-16IOE. The output connectionsin the AMC2-16IE are not usable. Within a system configuration the AMC2-16IE is treated as anormal extension module:It can be connected at any AMC2. Up to three extensions (for BIS three, for Access PE onlyone) can be connected to an AMC2. Extension variants can be used in any combination.

Figure 3.13: Extension module AMC2-16IE

Notice! The AMC2-16IE is identical in all respects to the AMC2-16IOE except in missing outputs.Information in this manual refers to all three extensions described here, unless explicitlystated otherwise.

Depending on the kind of interface are available the following constellations are possible:– Using RS-232 host connection one AMC2-4R4 can be connected per COM port.– Using RS-485 host connection, up to eight of these modules can be combined on one

COM port.– Up to three extension boards can be connected to and controlled by the AMC2-4R4.

These can be any combination of types AMC2-8IOE, AMC2-16IOE, or AMC2-16IE.

System configurations for Access Control applications.– The minimum configuration consists of:

– one PC with system software,– one AMC2 controller,– one AMC power supply,– one AMC enclosure.

– The maximum configuration depends on the system software,– Each AMC2-4W controller can be extended with an AMC2-4WE extension module.Using an AMC-MUX interface extension on RS-485 host connections it is possible to connectup to eight controllers to a single COM port. Up to 200 AMCs can be connected using theethernet host connection.

Notice! If the host connection is via ethernet then the RS-485 interface can be used for extensionboards.

Using the reader interfaces, up to two RS-485 and two Wiegand peripheral devices can beconnected to each AMC2-4R4. The RS-232 interface can be used for additional input devicessuch as biometric readers or long-range readers. The RS-232 and Wiegand interfaces arepoint-to-point connections, meaning that only one reader can be connected to one interface. The using of AMC2-4WE modules has no influence on the limit of the maximum of controllersin one system, because it is an extension to an AMC2-4W and not a controller.Using Wiegand reader interfaces, up to four peripheral devices can be connected to eachAMC2-4R4. The interfaces are point-to-point connections, meaning that only one reader can beconnected to one interface.

Using RS-485 reader interfaces, up to eight peripheral devices can be connected to eachAMC2. The four reader interfaces are divided into two buses. Interface 1 and 2 are on one bus,and interfaces 3 and 4 are on the other bus. With this arrangement, you can connect allreaders to one interface. The extension interface supports up to three additional I/O boards (AMC2-8IOE, AMC2-16IE,or AMC2-16IOE). All extension boards are controlled by the AMC2 and are freely combinable.

Notice! This controller is currently a project version.

For distances below 25 m (75 ft) use AWG18 conductors (1mm²). For longer distances, installan additional power supply close to the AMC2 controller. Please, calculate the voltage drop by checking the conductor specifications for characteristicresistance values. The voltage drop shall not exceed 2 V.Example:Length = 100 m/328 ftU = 12V, I = 1A, maximum UDrop = 2V

i.e. RAWG18 (acc. specs) = 6.385 or 20,948

UDrop = 20,948 x 0.1 km x 1A = 2.1V

UDrop = 6.385 x 328 ft x 1A = 2.1VCritical condition! Install the power supply closer to the controller.External power supplies used must be UL certified and must be located in the same room asthe connected AMC2 device. Recommended maximum distance between power supply unitand AMC2 is 3 m (9.84 ft).

Notice! These specifications apply to power supply, readers, relay outputs, and extension interface.Regarding inputs, specific voltage-drop values need to be taken into account. Refer toConnecting Analog Input Devices, page 82.
