Cleaning and care of a DMT®After using a DMT Diamond Bench Stone or Sharpener simply wet it (if it is not already lubricated with water) and wipe the slurry off with a rag. This slurry is evidence that the sharpener has done its job. If the swarf is not wiped off the sharpener after use it may clog up the diamond and not allow it to sharpen as well as it could were it clean.Also, once in a while it is a good idea to get a common cleanser and scrub the sharpener with a nylon brush or nylon pad. This will ensure the sharpener is not clogged with slurry and will allow for optimal sharpening. Finally, make sure you store your sharpeners dry after you clean them off.

Knife magazineThe magazine consists of two cases and has slots for 48 knives, which can be loaded outside the machine during the operating process. Since each knife is individually measured before the sharpening process begins, the magazine can be loaded with knives of a variety of shapes and sizes.

Individual measurementBefore the sharpening program can begin, each individual knife is scanned at the measuring station. The detected knife shape is then converted into CNC data. The gripping arm steers the knife, according to this data, through the complete sharpening process.Thus, the original knife shape is retained through every resharpening process.

Knife gripping armThe central organ of this machine is its 4-axis operated knife gripping arm. It grabs the knife handle, moves the knife through the different processing positions and guides it, according to its exact shape, through the sharpening stages.

Grinding WheelThe gripping arm then directs the knife to the grinding wheel, and is ground perfectly.

Deburring WheelsThe knife is then guided to the deburring wheels and the knife edge is refined.

Polishing WheelsFinally the knife edge is polished to perfection giving a shiny finish. It is then safely placed back into the Knife Magazine ready for use.
