Theme of The Year-Say No To Plastics
A very warm welcome from Tata Power Club Enerji! At every step of our journey, we strive to put across the message that every effort, small or large, counts in the larger goal of conserving energy and natural resources and curbing the wasteful usage and destruction of our precious and scarce reserves. Simple energy saving and resource conserving tips have been repeatedly advocated and if each and every person followed these, the savings could in turn make a considerable difference in protecting the planet and avoiding a state of being power less and fuel scarce. The programme widened its scope three years ago, with an aim to contribute towards Nation Building by creating responsible citizens who not only conserve energy & natural resources but also imbibe and promote civic & moral values. Last year, this programme expanded further by encouraging children to be sensitive to their surroundings through the active citizenship module.
Plastics have been a major contributor to environmental pollution, causing damage not only on land but also on sea. It is a material which is easily found and can cause great harm. The very fact that it can't be easily destroyed is a matter of concern. Hence, we need to come together to ensure that we tackle this ever growing problem which is causing harm to planet earth. In recognition of this, we are introducing a new module themed on Saying No to Plastics, which lays emphasis on increasing awareness on the harmful effects of plastics on our environment. The approach hence becomes Combatting Climate Change & Disaster Management Preparedness + Energy & National Resources Conservation + Conservation of Civic & Moral Values + Active Citizenship + Protecting the environment by Saying No to Plastics = Making our world a better place to live.
Increased awareness of plastics among children and society can help us decrease the use of plastics which can lead to reduction in pollution and damage to the environment. All around the world a great deal of emphasis is laid on using sustainable products in our daily lives. It is time we also play a part in this movement to protect the environment. Club Enerji aims to tell children the significance of having and acting on consideration of strong civic & moral values, the qualities of an ideal citizen, and suggests various activities which can easily be undertaken by students in helping conserve our environment.
Finally, on the culmination of our 10th Anniversary of the Club Enerji, we at Tata Power would like to thank you for your support in spreading the message of conservation around the country. The initiative has grown with the support of students, principals, teachers, parents and partners spread across the country - and this has helped us reach out to more than 533 schools nationwide, sensitize over 19.34 million citizens and save more than 25 million units of energy. The last ten years of your participation have proven that we can take giant strides with small initiatives. I earnestly request you to join our programme, become a member at www.clubenerji.com and persuade all your friends to join in as well. Together, we can light up our future and that of our future generations as well. The path of conservation is the path to a better and bountiful tomorrow.
We look forward to joining hands with you to keep this movement vibrant as always!
Warm Regards,
Praveer Sinha

Tata Power Club Enerji (TPCE) is a resource Conservation Club that focuses on bringing about a first-hand realisation of the energy crisis and scarcity of natural resources in the country. With the increasing demand for energy, effective management and conservation of the same has become the need of the hour. Recognizing the immense value that schools and school children can bring to the initiative and taking due consideration of this urgent need, Tata Power started "Tata Power Club Enerji", to propagate efficient usage of energy and to educate the society on climate change issues in 2007. This year, Club Enerji is also undertaking the unique initiative of urging children to “Say No To Plastics” and help save the ecosystem.

Our 10 Year
journey
In 2007, Tata Power Club Enerji started with a pilot programme of educating and sensitizing 12 schools in Mumbai and sensitized 6000 students. TPCE covered 28 schools across Mumbai & Belgaum sensitizing 11,417 students who in turn sensitized 26,922 citizens in 2008. In 2009, TPCE become a national movement & covered more than 250 schools across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Belgaum, Jamshedpur and Lonavala. TPCE reached out to 285 schools nationwide in 2010 & saved more than 2.4 million units of energy. In 2011, the Club reached out to 285 schools nationwide, sensitised over 1.55 lakh citizens and saved more than 2.8 million units. In 2012, the Club rolled out the Resource conservation module in a fully-fledged manner, and reached out to more than 285 schools nationwide, sensitised over 1.6 million citizens and saved closed to 2.7 million units. In 2013, the Club rolled out the 3rd pillar of the Resource Conservation Module – Water Management - and reached out to more than 285 schools nationwide, sensitised over 1.7 million citizens and saved closed to 2.7 million units. In 2014, the Club reached out to more than 400 schools across India, sensitised more than 7 million citizens, saved more than 11.2 million units, had a total of 1,24,348 Energy Champions and 1,72,986 Energy Ambassadors.
Today, Club Enerji has reached out to more than 533 schools nationwide, sensitized over 19.34 million citizens and saved more than 25 million units of energy. It has over 2,92,971 Energy Champions, 3,39,297 Energy Ambassadors and 1526 self-sustaining Mini Energy Club, till date.
Club Enerji launched its Resource Conservation module across all schools in 2012-13 with a focus on the importance of natural resource conservation. Owing to the enthusiastic response from all its members, the module further evolved and is based on the pillars of:
• Active Citizenship• Fuel conservation• Water Management• Waste Management• Afforestation• Energy Conservation• Disaster Management• Moral & Civic Values Conservation• Say No to Plastics
In keeping with the efforts of this module, in 2018, along with power, fuel & water conservation, waste management, afforestation, and disaster management, we will be focusing on Say No to Plastic. This is only apt, with the glaring effects of non-biodegradable material, radioactive waste and pollution due to waste affecting our health and depleting precious national resources. TPCE provides the ground for youth to share and expand their understanding, and bring about a chain reaction that can significantly help in conserving natural resources, thus contributing to nation-building. With adequate publicity, the Club will sensitise maximum number of citizens across the country, and the spark can turn into a spreading flame of enthusiasm to protect our resources and the environment.

Theme for 2018-19 : Say No To Plastics
The theme of this year 'Say No to Plastics' is devoted to finding ways of addressing the rampant and indiscriminate use of plastic in our environment. Whether we are talking about single-use plastic bottles and bags, or the millions of plastic straws produced yearly, we are focused on finding answers. Experts all over the world have estimated that in the next 20 years demand for plastics will double. This is a wakeup call for each one of us to reduce plastic usage thereby cutting down the overall demand.
The energy crisis that the country is currently facing is getting graver by the minute and it is every individual's responsibility to save our natural resources. Energy, climate change and global warming are clearly linked. The temperature of the earth has risen by almost 0.8 degree celcius in the last 150 years and if the earth continues to get hotter, this temperature could rise by as much as 6.4 degree celcius by 2100. Population growth, increased agricultural & industrial needs as well as destruction of forests are a great threat to the forest cover of this planet.
Energy production is still a major driver of greenhouse gas emissions. Our reliance on our creation, including all the things that make us comfortable at home, has contributed immensely to the emission of more greenhouse gases than before. These gases in the atmosphere have trapped more heat on the earth's surface and made it warmer, known as Global Warming.
We need to educate and advocate lifestyle choices, instill and inculcate some good habits in everybody's personal capacities to combat Climate change and learn how to act and manage disasters. Also keeping with the commitment, we need to save scarce natural resources and conserving our moral and civic values. Finally, we must convert ideals to action, and act as responsible and active citizens working to build a brighter future for our world. The team also encourages students to “ Say NO to Plastics ” and help save the environment.

The programme concentrates on awareness generation by educating children on the importance of energy & resource conservation and moral & civic values. The primary sensitisation includes three visits made to the same set of children to reinforce the message of energy & resource conservation. These interactive sessions through flash modules, presentation and competitions are undertaken to reinforce the content and assess the integration of thoughts into action. TPCE confers titles like Energy Champions on young students, who actively practice and propagate energy saving & resource conservation while practising moral & civic values. Active outreach members who help spread the energy conservation message are crowned as Energy Ambassadors.
The Club believes in sensitising school children, college students and the society at large on the importance of saving power and using it efficiently, and the importance of moral & civic values in becoming better citizens. Club members undergo four stages of sensitisation - Educate, Enhance, Engage, and Empower. The Club believes in guiding the members throughout these four stages and developing a self sustained community that will take the cause forward.
4E approach- Educate, Engage, Enhance, Empower

The focus is on advanced training sessions for the students and mentors. The children are enrolled into the Power Kids League which comprises a series of workshops.
The select group of students who spearhead energy conservation activities in school and societies form Mini Club Enerji. These mini clubs are independent entities which perform various sensitisation initiatives such as street play, rallies and conduct sensitisation sessions in school & societies, to propagate the message of energy & resource conservation. The efforts of the mini TPCEs are featured on the Club Enerji website.
Schools are encouraged through participation in the National Energy Savvy School (NESS) competition. Under NESS, Principals, students and faculty members are empowered to initiate and execute energy saving activities that would make their school an Energy Savvy School. The Best Mini Club Enerji of the Year is felicitated and rewarded at the end of the year.

Teachers at TPCE have taken up the initiative of teaching the younger generation energy and natural resource conservation and how to combat change! They become Energy Mentors by teaching others to conserve energy and resources.
TPCE is continuously joining hands with other partners to voice the message of energy and resource conservation. In the past, Tata Power Club Enerji has partnered with Godrej & Boyce, South Asian Youth Peace Meet, Rotary Club and others to spread and create awareness about the immense need to conserve power, fuel and water.
As the young minds spread the message of energy and resource conservation, the parent community is all set to support and join them. Parents at TPCE have pledged to save energy and natural resources together at their homes and workplace to make a difference. They are motivated to first follow the energy busters themselves and then sensitise their neighboring communities.
Partners
School Children
TPCE believes in involving the youth, the decision makers of tomorrow, who will play a vital role in not only propagating efficient usage of energy but also furthering the larger cause of educating the society on climate change issues, disaster management and helping build a greener and safer tomorrow. The Primary Sensitization session which is conducted in schools and colleges across the country is to build concerned and sensitive communities who will in turn impact others.
