He disapproved the talkies and once said, “Words are cheap. The biggest thing you can say is 'elephant'.” Later he got tired of directing for others so he co-founded with United Artists in 1919. Chaplin was one of the most creative and influential personalities of the silent-film era. Awards Even though once Chaplin had said “ I have no further use for AMerica. I wouldn’t go back there if Jesus Christ was President.” He was very angry because he was refused to enter America. But in 1975, United States tried to make peace with him by inviting him to the first academy awards ceremony. He achieved an Oscar for “The Circus”. He announced to the cheering audience that “This is my renaissance. I am being born again”. He won the best foreign language film during The Blue Ribbon Awards for “Monsieur Verdoux”. Also at, Kinema Junpo Awards, he won the best foreign language film for “The great dictator” and “The gold Rush” at 1927 and 1940. Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was a comic and film

director during the silent era. He is mostly known from

his character of The Tramp . Chaplin was twelve when his

father died of alcoholism. His mother suffered a mental

and taken away to an institution. He was completely

alone and many times even lived on the streets. But

later his mother was well and took care of them. So he

started to take the footsteps of his father and first

appeared at as “Billy” the pageboy in “Sherlock Holmes”.

His goal was to create “A day without laughter is a day

wasted.” As he said, “The talkies! You can say that I

detest them!" he used his body motions to achieve his

goal.

Who is Charlie Chaplin?

Acting When Charlie was about fourteen, he had his first chance to act in a stage show. He appeared as “Billy” the pageboy in “Sherlock Holmes”. At the age of 24 Chaplin signed with Keystone films. He took his first steps in front of the camera while in “Making a living”. He wrote and directed in “Caught in Rain” which was the first time he wrote and directed a film which it was a huge success in England. In 1914, he left keystone for Essanay where he created movies like, “His New Job”, “Work, “Floorwalker”, etc. As he explained “All my pictures are built around the idea of getting in trouble and so giving me the chance to be desperately serious in my attempt to appear as a normal little gentleman” which adds humor.
