BElOW iS a liSt OF Our accrEDitED training cOurSES that OFFEr cPD POintS:

Business Development & Project Planning for Construction & Engineering WorksWork is so scarce that companies are bidding for ‘anything and everything’, thinking that if they bid for enough jobs that eventually they’ll get their fair share. Sadly, this tactic and effort won’t get you the positive results that you want, especially if you are using the same proposal strategies that you’ve always used. You need to think of this like fishing… you wouldn’t use the same bait and tackle to catch salmon that you would use for tuna so why do you try and win construction and engineering works using the same tactics and tired proposals?

Times are changing in the construction industry and you have to change with them if you want to stay a viable and profitable company. So, the million Rand question is how do you change your current business development processes and increase your Order Book?

Bids and their development form the essential make-up of contracts for any construction and engineering project. It is in the bid development phase where the engineering ideas are conceived, developed and translated into the intended products to be constructed. The bid phase is in actual fact where a lot of the business risk resides because it is the precursor to the project execution and construction phase of the project. But with so many companies churning out bids, very few business development managers actually include the project team from the outset – they simply bid and if they are lucky they win the work and then they hand off to the project team and hope for the best…and the last time I checked ‘hope’ was not considered a business strategy!

The reality is that a thoughtfully planned bid makes for a successful project and this in turn translates into healthy business profits.

In short, this 2-day training course has been researched and developed with one aim in mind to show you how to win more work and also when you should back away from a project because the risks are too high so at the end of the day you make more money!

Using a variety of real-life construction and engineering-focused case studies we will go through each of the modules in detail – this will allow you to get a full understanding of how to apply what you have learnt in a real-world environment.

Construction EstimatingConstruction estimating is not simply number crunching to get a figure. But it is a multi-faceted process that must be followed in order to ensure that all risks are accounted for.

This 2-day training course will look at the very latest principles, practices and techniques for accurately estimating construction project costs regardless of any changes in the cost of materials, equipment or labour.

Plus each Course Participant takes home a CD-ROM jam-packed with Estimating Templates ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Construction Contract LawWhat you don’t know could hurt you! This comprehensive training course uses real-life examples from actual projects and examines and compares the similarities and differences of the NEC3 ECC, FIDIC Red, Yellow, Silver & White Books, JBCC Edition 6.1 PBA & GCC 2010/2015.

If you are involved in the management of or with the commercial aspects of construction projects then it would be in your best interest to develop and sharpen your knowledge of how the standard forms of construction contracts differ, the law that governs them as well as the legal principles that apply. The reason is that this not only makes good business sense, it is also crucial for a successful project that all team members understand the dynamics of the construction contract, the applicable and relevant legal principles and how it all relates to the parties’ contractual and legal rights as well as to an organisation’s business goals. So, this training course is one that you simply can’t afford to miss as it offers you the very best opportunity to do just that.

This intensive and highly practical 2-day training course will provide you with the most comprehensive, up-to-date and practical advice on the most challenging and critical construction law and construction contract-related issues. The focus of this course is on preventing problems rather than addressing them only once they have arisen. You will learn your rights and responsibilities as defined by the reference to legislation and court cases, as well as how to enforce them. Find out how to avoid unwelcome, project crippling surprises with legally sound contracts. Make sure that you have all of your legal bases covered no matter what type of project delivery method or contract strategy is chosen.

We will also cover in detail the risks and liabilities that you may face on a daily basis. In addition we will take a detailed look at proven ways to avoid and to minimise problems on

Effective Construction Contract Management and AdministrationThis hands-on and practical 2-day training course has been designed to take you through the entire project life cycle and contract administration tasks and it will equip you with the skills you need to determine the inherent risks associated with each stage of the life cycle. You will also learn how to use all of the tools at your disposal to avoid cost and time over-runs, without the need to sacrifice quality.

Effective Project AdministrationSimply put, project administration can make or break a project because it is the key to successfully maintaining control on any project. Many projects go off track because of a lack of effective administration. And if like many Project Administrators, you are working very hard and you aspire to eventually move up the ladder and become a recognised Project Manager in your own right...then this training course is exactly what you need. In order to help you reach your goals we have researched and developed this 3-day training course that is jam-packed with tips, tools and strategies that will help you to take control of your workload, manage multiple projects and stay on top of priorities, deadlines and budgets.

Plus each Course Participant takes home a CD-ROM jam-packed with Templates & Bonus Material valued at over R2000 ABSOLUTELY FREE!

FIDICThis 2-day training course focuses on the practical use of the FIDIC International Suite of Standard Form Construction Contracts and it has been specifically designed to equip all Participants with a practical and detailed understanding as well as a working knowledge of the relevant legal principles, contractual provisions and management mechanisms which combine in FIDIC’s international suite of standard form contracts which will enable the execution of projects within time, to budget and in compliance with your Employer’s technical requirements and specifications.

Finance for Engineers, Project and Technical ManagersUnderstanding the complexities of finance for engineering, project managers and other multi-disciplinary professionals is a must and this 3-day training course has been designed in such a way to be as practical and interactive as possible. Using a real-life case study will allow you to learn, apply and practice all the tips, tools and techniques you need to positively contribute to the financial and strategic project-focused decisions within your company.

GCC 2015General Conditions of Contract 3rd Edition or the GCC 2015 as it is now known is an ‘upgraded’ version of the GCC 2010.

According to SAICE who publish the GCC, the upgrade was necessary as there were a number of grey areas that needed clarification and refinement and in addition there were also amendments that were clearly needed.

The GCC remains the standard form contract of choice, especially for local Government-run projects.

The reality is that many construction and engineering company order books are at an all-time low. So, when you consider the recent announcement by National Treasury that Government will continue to help municipalities plan and implement urban development projects to the tune of over R229-billion…then I am sure that you will agree with me that local Government projects (albeit in the short-term) are starting to look very attractive indeed.

This is where this training course comes in, as it focuses on and discusses in detail the significant changes as well as the new features of GCC 2015. It has been designed and developed to give you a completely unbiased look at how the GCC 2015 works in practice.

Think of this training course as your essential guide to the GCC 2015 as it will provide you with much needed clarity and detail on everything you need to know in a fast-paced and plain-English way and it is guaranteed to provide a whole new level of understanding to anyone that has to deal with and use this contract on a regular basis.

Every Course Participant gets a copy of the General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works – 3rd Edition 2015 valued at over R575 & Guide to the General Conditions of Contract 2015 valued at over R1000 - ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Effective Claims Management Under FIDIC ContractsClaims often arise on building and engineering projects and appear to be an inherent feature of the industry. Unfortunately claims have acquired a very negative connotation and the manner in which claims are brought and assessed often lead to disputes.

Most building and engineering contracts set out the basis for claims and indicate which events will lead to claims. These contracts also contain and prescribe detailed procedures that have to be followed by the parties should they wish to give notice of and submit claims. FIDIC is no exception!

This 1-day CPD-accredited training course focuses in detail on the grounds to claim and the procedures to notify claims that are applicable in the case of FIDIC contract. We also cover in detail the issue of how to properly present and assess claims.

Plus all Course Participants receive a copy of the FIDIC Red Book valued at over R820 - ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Sadly with disagreements and disputes on the increase it seems like they are becoming part and parcel of the construction industry. Many of these disputes and disagreements are based on misunderstandings that often relate to the practical and technical aspects of the project. But how do you make sure that this does not derail the entire project? This 1-day training course has been especially formulated to cover all of the bases and increase your knowledge and understanding of all aspects of dealing with:

• Disagreement and disputes under the JBCC Principal Building Agreement and the time-barring provisions introduced by Edition 6.1• The application of the JBCC Principal Adjudication Rules• Claims of an on-going nature – everything you need to know about how to preserve your rights in terms of the JBCC Building Agreement• Reviewing the requirements, merits and demerits of proven alternative dispute

JBCC Suite of Contracts - Edition 6.1This 2-day training course offers you something quite different as it takes a unique and unbiased 360º look at the entire JBCC Suite of Contracts and literally leaves no stone unturned.

In addition a new module has been added and we will spend quite a bit of time taking a detailed look at the new changes/additions that have be included in the JBCC Edition 6.1 and will discuss whether these address some of the areas of criticism previously raised. This will allow for a focussed discussion on the key provisions of the contracts, as well as an objective view of the practical application of the JBCC Edition 6.1 in order to highlight its strengths and weaknesses.

Your registration includes a FREE copy of Edition 6.1 of the JBCC Principal Building Agreement and Contract Data valued at over R650!

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling for Improved Reliability & UptimeDuring this 3-day course you will learn how current best planning and scheduling practices can be applied and you will also learn how to initiate an effective and measurable maintenance planning and scheduling process.

The methodology used is based on action-learning, so this course is highly practical and interactive in nature. Throughout the course you will learn how to actually apply the tools presented in each module using real-world case study material.

Managing Risk in Construction ContractsIt is true that potential risk and liability lurks around every corner of a construction project and if you unknowingly assume that risk you can be putting your company in harm’s way. If you fail to understand and account for the risks and liabilities you are assuming under your construction contract, your company could become involved in timely and expensive disputes and ultimately be responsible for liability that could put your company out of business.

This 2-day training course addresses the critical survival and profitability factors from a risk point of view for construction companies managing projects in this current and forever changing economic environment.

Management & Leadership Development Skills for WomenThis powerful Management and Leadership Development Skills for Women training course is exactly what you need to kick-start the development of your leadership potential. This 2-day training course is vitally important to your ongoing career development, it will empower and inspire you as well as boost your confidence to become the leader you have always wanted to be!

New Engineering Contract (Black Book)Our 2-day practical training course, New Engineering Contract continues to sell out because it has been designed to focus on the provisions of any NEC contract. And it also covers in detail core clauses and then delves into optional clauses which are seen more as those ‘bolt-on’ clauses that fine-tune the risk allocation under the contract.

During the course we also explore in detail the area of Early Warnings and Compensation Events as these are unique to the NEC3 Family of Contracts.

So, this 2-day training course pulls together all this and much more in terms of best practices as it answers a wide range on ongoing questions often asked by NEC3 users…so when you think about it you really can’t afford to miss this training course!

Each Course Participant who attends this training course will receive a FREE copy of the NEC3 Black Book material valued at over R1350!

NEC3 Compensation EventsCompensation Events is a term that is unique to the NEC family of contracts and in short it is the NEC’s claims process. However,Compensation Events and how they are dealt with differs in many respects from the claims processes used when dealing with the otherstandard forms of construction contracts, due to and as a result of the NEC’s partnering-based approach to the resolution of issues and claims.

This 2-day training course provides a practical approach to dealing with Compensation Events. Each Course Participant who attends this training course will receive a copy of the NEC3 Black Book material valued at R1350 ABSOLUTELY FREE

NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract (ECC)The NEC Family of Standard Form Contracts is used by major organisations across the length and breadth of South Africa. And this modern family of contracts has become the standard for private companies, parastatals and public sector organisations alike. The reason for this is that the NEC3 if often praised for facilitating the implementation of sound project management principles and practices as well as being flexible, simple to understand and it has been said that it promotes amicable working relationships. Because of the demand and use of the NEC it has become an essential and commercial requirement for anyone involved in the SA construction industry to have a good working knowledge of how the NEC3 actually works in practice – this just makes good business sense!

Each Course Participant who attends this 3-day training course will receive NEC3 Black Book material valued at R1350, NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract Guidance Notes material valued at R730 and the NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract Flow Charts material valued at R480 ABSOLUTELY FREE!

NEC3 Engineering & Construction Short Contract (ECSC)The Engineering and Construction Short Contract (ECSC) shares many of the same characteristics as the existing NEC family – particularly its focus on good management of the relationship between the two parties of the contract as well as the work included in the contract.

The ECSC is intended for the use when the contracts do not require sophisticated management techniques, compromise straightforward work and impose only low risks on both the Employer and the Contractor.

The beauty of the ECSC is that it can be used in a wide variety of commercial situations, for a wide variety of work and in any location. It has also been written in clear and simple language and its structure is easy and fairly straightforward to understand. The short contract shares many of the characteristics and has more or less the same structure as the ECC. Many of the provisions, such as those relating to Early Warnings, Programmes and Compensation Events have, however, been shortened in order to suit the simpler nature of the contracts on which they will be used. On the flipside, however, there are no main or secondary options to choose from but only provisions for making certain pricing arrangements, which sometimes cause confusion.

This training course has been researched and developed with one aim in mind…rather than simply running through the clauses in their numerical sequence we intend progressing through the stages of the project from start to completion and then dealing with the relevant clauses as they apply to each of these stages. And wherever possible we will illustrate each application by way of real-life case studies.

Plus, every Course Participant gets a copy of the NEC3 ECSC material valued at R750 ABSOLUTELY FREE!

NEC3 Professional Services Contract (PSC)The Professional Services Contract (PSC) was developed and drafted as part of the NEC system of contract documents. It uses the same process-based approach as found in the case of the ECC or any other NEC contract for the appointment of consultants tasked with providing professional services in connection with engineering, construction or other projects.

This 2-day interactive case-study driven training course is a practical guide to the application of the PSC. This approach will allow all Course Participants to get a first-hand look at how to deal with any potential issues they may come across when using the contract . We will also examine all of the procedures in the PSC as well as some of the approaches designed to achieve a successful working relationship between all parties involved.

Plus every Course Participant gets a copy of the NEC3 Professional Services Contract (Orange Book) material valued at R850 ABSOLUTELY FREE!

NEC3 Supply Contract (SC) & Supply Short Contract (SSC)Buying goods and service make up a large part of any project. In 2010, NEC published two new contracts, namely the Supply Contract (SC) and the Supply Short Contract (SS) to assist with the buying of goods and services.

The SC is generally more often used as it is applicable for both local and international procurement of high value and/or high risk manufactured goods as well as for the services that are directly associated with the supply of the manufactured goods. In short, this means that the goods will be wholly or partly designed and manufactured specifically to the projects specifications but it is also applicable to ‘off-the-shelf’ products as well.

The SSC caters for the ‘supply of standard commodities’ i.e. standard manufactured items needed for your project. The SSC is suitable for us with contracts that do not require sophisticated management techniques and that impose only low risks on both the Purchaser and the Supplier.

So this 2-day training course has been designed and developed to cover in detail the structure of each of the contracts as well as the key components and benefits of using them when purchasing goods and services. Learn about the structure, key components and the benefits that the Supply Contract and Supply Short Contract can bring to all the parties in a contract as well as how to use, negotiate and manage Supply Contracts and the Supply Short Contracts to assist with the buying of goods and services.

Plus every Course Participant gets a copy of the NEC3 Supply Contract (Silver Book) material valued at R850 and the NEC3 Short Supply Contract material valued at R620

NEC3 Term Service Contract (TSC)The NEC3 Term Service Contract or TSC as it is more commonly known was developed for the appointment of a supplier for a defined period of time to manage and to provide services which may only be required to be rendered on an ad-hoc basis.Sounds easy enough right…well you will be forgiven if you are confused about when and exactly how you should use the TSC as opposed to the other contracts in the NEC Family of Contracts.

That is where this 2-day training course comes in, it has been researched and designed to cover in detail from a case study point of view everything you need to know about the TSC in action.

Plus every Course Participant gets a copy of the NEC3 Term Service Contract material valued at R850 ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Preventive Maintenance ProgrammesThis skills-packed 3-day training course is guaranteed to get you up to speed fast on the latest, most effective preventive maintenance techniques and strategies available. In addition, you’ll learn literally dozens of the very latest and best practices in improving your preventive maintenance (PM) practices that will save you time, money and effort along the way.

Bottom line…invest just 3-days in this essential training course, and you’ll eliminate unnecessary expenditures, avoid emergency repairs and quick fixes and stamp out waste as you learn how to create additional resources without spending any additional money on manpower!

Professional Services Contracts & EPCMSThere are a variety of PSC contracts available ranging from the NEC Professional Services Contract (PSC), the FIDIC’s Client Consultant Model Services Agreement (the White Book), and the contracts published by PROCSA to the CIDB’s Standard Professional Services Contract. Deciding which one to use depends on amongst other things the nature of the project as well as the form of construction contract being used.

This 2-day course offers you an opportunity to re-examine old paradigms and to explore new ways of drafting PSCs / EPCM contracts that operate fairly towards both the Client as well as the Consultant without ‘Teflon-coating’ one party over the other.

Project Management Scheduling & Control for Engineering & Construction ManagersProject Management is defined as the process and activity of planning, organising, motivating and controlling resources, procedures and protocols to achieve specific goals in scientific or daily problems.

Easy enough to define but in the construction environment it can be exceptionally hard to do! No matter how big or small your construction project is; you need to have a well-thought-out project management plan in place. And although many managers and engineers involved in the construction industry think that they instinctively under-stand proper project management as well as how to effectively schedule and control all of the aspects of a project, the high number of claims resulting from delays and damages within the industry clearly show that they don’t!

This training course has been researched and designed to show you how to use all the very latest project management tools, tips and techniques so that you can create better schedules that improve productivity, save time and simplify all of your construction scheduling activities from the initial planning and scheduling phase to actual schedule development, including updates and the project

Root Cause Failure AnalysisTraditional maintenance strategies tend to neglect the identification and then the correction of the underlying problem. But if you do RCFA right and you then apply it consistently throughout your maintenance processes it can quite literally save your organisation hundreds of thousands of Rands in maintenance repair costs and downtime!

So this 2-day training course will take a detailed look at all of the tools and techniques associated with a robust RCFA process. You will not only learn the theory but also how to practically implement a disciplined process to investigate, rectify and eliminate equipment failure in your own maintenance environment.

Technical Report WritingWith the right training, you can produce professional and polished technical business reports that are quick and easy to read and understand.

By attending this 2-day course you’ll learn, step by step, how to shape your thoughts and structure, draft and write clear and concise technical reports. So, you recognise that having better technical report writing skills is vital to your career. But you are worried that this is going to be 2 days of boring lectures. Don’t worry – unlike other generic courses available, we have gone out of our way to design a training programme that is engaging, interactive but above all else practical!
