The Commission held its general meeting on June 28, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. The Commission’s first order of
business was to grant initial accreditation to the Miami Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department’s Turner Guilford Knight Facility, and the Orange County Corrections Department Pretrial Services Unit. The following facilities received reaccreditation: Orange County Corrections
Department, Alachua County Pretrial Services, Volusia County Pretrial Services, and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Detention Bureau. The Commission approved 12 changes to the Corrections standards. The changes are detailed on Change Notice 3.0.21. A copy of the change notice is available on the website at www.flaccreditation.org.
The Commission’s Awards Luncheon was held immediately following the Commission meeting. Ms. Kim Ketchner of the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office received the Accreditation Manager of the Year, Sergeant Darren Bryant of the Orange County Corrections Department received the Assessor of the Year, and Ms. Amanda Tipping of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received the Distinguished Service Award. The FCAC thanks the FLA-PAC and its membership for graciously sponsoring this luncheon.
The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation met in Bonita Springs on June 30, 2011 to review agencies for accredited status and conduct general business. CFA thanks the
Florida Police Accreditation Coalition for their dedication and hard work in making this conference a success. We also thank Lee County Pretrial Services, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, and Cape Coral Police Department for hosting the conference. This dedicated volunteer force provided any and all assistance needed and contributed greatly to the success of the conference.
The main order of business was to acknowledge the professionalism of agencies through granting accreditation. Two agencies were recognized as “Excelsior Agencies,” a distinction awarded to agencies achieving five successful reaccreditation awards. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office are the most recent agencies to achieve this honor. The Temple Terrace Police Department and the Brooksville Police Department were awarded initial accreditation. The Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Winter Haven Police Department, Davie Police Department, Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Fernandina Beach Police Department, Panama City Police Department, Gulf Breeze Police Department, Lauderhill Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Police Department were awarded reaccreditation by the Commission.
The CFA Standards Review and Interpretations Committee met on June 29, chaired by Commissioner Julie Jones, and made several recommendations for standards modifications to the Commission. The CFA Standards Change Notice is posted on the website, www.flaccreditation.org.
