Experts to dial up your home’s style without getting “stuck” when the next color trend comes along.
Some fashion trends are hard to
resist – even when you know you’ll only
wear something once or twice. And it’s
just as fun to let your free-spirited side
take over in your home as it is with your
wardrobe! So try this:
For example, replacing accent pillows, draperies or repainting French doors.”
A powder room or little foyer is perfect to try a new look.”
Accent pieces are perfect. Small furniture, vases or picture frames can be easily repainted when the next look comes around.”

how to replace a doorbell
Changing a doorbell button is easy – even for beginners! The wiring is simple and low voltage (usually about 10-16 volts – much lower than an outlet or light switch).
1. Switch off power at the circuit breaker panel. The breaker will probably share other feeds and won’t be marked “doorbell” on the panel.
Loosen the screws on the old faceplate. Pull it out so you can see the back.
The typical voltage is barely enough for you to feel a shock if you touch the wires. But better safe than shocked!
Expect a black (hot) and a white (neutral) wire. If they’re attached to small screws (terminals), loosen them. If the wires are connected in slots, clip them off with wire strippers. (Stick the loose wires to the door jamb with a small piece of electrical tape so they won’t slip down into the hole in the wall.)
Cut back to the point where it’s undamaged. Don’t trim too much or you can run out of slack if future repairs come up. Now, you need enough bare wire at the end to wrap around the screw terminal. Use wire cutters to clip the insulation (color coating) off without cutting the wire. About a ½ inch should do.
Unlike other wiring projects, you don’t have to match the wire color with a precise connection point. Just attach the white wire to one terminal screw and the black wire to the other. [Learn How]
If it’s not working, you may need to replace the chimes or transformer.

YOU CAN ALSO REPLACE THE BUTTON AND THE CHIME WITH A WIRELESS DOORBELL. NO ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS NEEDED! 10

W1. Sun and wind can dry soap too quickly, causing streaks,
spots or clinging dirt.
2. Rinse the vehicle down with a hose. Pay extra attention to wheels, bumpers, and lower body panels where dirt accumulates.
3. using these tricks as you go: The right mix of car wash soap and water is important.
Too much soap causes streaking. Follow the directions on the bottle. Most washes are 1 oz. per gallon of water.
Lower sections are bound to be dirtiest. If you start there, you can carry the dirt up and spread it around.
As you wash, your sponge picks up grime and grit. Use one bucket for soaking up soapy water, and another for rinsing and wringing out your dirty sponge. Think “suds bucket, wash, rinse bucket, repeat.”
Use separate sponges for the wheels and wheel wells. This keeps metal particles and heavy dirt off the vehicle’s paint.
4. with the hose.
5. This prevents water spots and streaks. Use super-absorbent microfiber towels or chamois cloths. Keep wringing them out to remove as much water as you can. Old t-shirts or towels may scratch or have detergent residues that can cause streaks. And the lint is a pain if you’re polishing and waxing next!
TIPS:
ashing the car may be a ritual for you or a necessary evil. Either way, you’d never do the job with sandpaper and dirty water! But without the right technique, that’s what you may be doing. Here’s how to wash your car so you won’t spread grit around or transfer it back on the vehicle:
soaps are gentle on finishes.
telescoping handle makes short work of washing an SUV.

HAdd a 2-4 inch layer of mulch to garden beds. It helps insulate soil against the damaging effects of extreme heat and cold. By retaining moisture and reducing runoff, it also helps cut down on water waste. And mulch helps with weed control. Lock it in place with a non-toxic spray-on adhesive.
A big help for watering regularly at the best time of day – early morning. Water can evaporate too slowly in the evening, causing mold or disease. At midday, it evaporates too fast.
Set a rain gauge within range of your sprinkler. Check the time and turn on the sprinkler. When the gauge has an inch of water in it, check the time again. Now you know how long to run your sprinkler. Lawns only need about an inch of water a week, including rain.
Slow, direct water delivery helps prevent pooling, runoff and evaporation.
Attach the hose to a water timer at the outdoor spigot or rain barrel and wind it around plants. Water seeps out through pores all along the length of the hose. Best for use in beds where plants are tightly spaced.
Small, flexible pipes and emitters deliver water with little to no water waste. Check regularly for clogged emitters – especially if the hoses are covered under mulch.
Connect rain barrels to gutter downspouts or set them up to catch roof runoff. You’ll have a ready supply for outdoor chores or watering plants – even if water restrictions or drought put a drain on your watering schedule.
Nurture your soil to improve water retention, deep root growth and plant and grass health. Till compost or peat moss into compacted or poorly draining soil. Test your soil’s pH. Add lime to acidic soil (below 7 on the pH scale). Compost, manure and sulfur help lower the pH of alkaline soil (above 7 on the pH scale).

top tools A must for manicured edges. Choose from narrower (10" to 15") or wider (17") cutting widths and electric, cordless or gas models to suit your needs. Look for comfort and control features like an adjustable or telescoping handle and tilting head. And an edging feature is great to have.
Haul debris and landscape materials. Hassle-free features include: seamless bucket (to scoop contents without snagging tools), flat-free tire, cushioned grips.
Two cutting edges cut like scissors. Best for precise cuts in live branches up to about ¾" thick. An internal spring can eliminate some clogging and a cushy grip cuts hand fatigue.
Straight cutting blade and pressing action may crush or damage stems. Only for pruning dead branches or trimming down sawn-off branches for easier haul-away.
Consolidate your lawn debris for easier haul-away or composting. Heavy duty kraft paper bags resist moisture and tears, and are biodegradable.
Turn over soil, mix mulch into garden beds, or plow down weed patches. A serious time-saver for landscape beds or vegetable gardens.

Light but powerful picker-upper! Blow away dirt, sand and debris even in hard-to-reachareas. Switch to suction and shred leaves and plants to fit more in lawn bags.
Curved, narrower blades cut on the pull stroke for better control at off-kilter angles. For branches thicker than 1".
The handiest duo for container and close-up planting. Scoop soil, round out planting holes, loosen soil and smooth over mulch without damaging nearby plants.
Remove the taproot in stubborn weeds, like dandelions. Also handy for scraping out weeds and moss from sidewalk cracks and foundation edges.
Handy for high branches up to 1" thick, when you can’t use a ladder.
The angled point slices into soil and cuts through roots. Higher quality types have a reinforced head to handle connection. A coated blade prevents rusting. A tempered, forged or heavy-gauge steel blade adds durability. Rolled or folded “steps” at the base give you firm footing when you put your weight into a job.
Long-handled leverage for branches up to about 3" thick and tough-to-reach or thorny shrubs.

If you lose something valuable down the drain–shut the faucet off quickly! There’s a good chance it will settle in the pipe bend under the sink. If so, you’ll think the P-trap is one of the world’s best inventions. Here’s what to do:
1. Put a bucket under the pipe. 2. Disconnect the nuts at both ends of the J-bend (the “J”
shaped section of the P-trap). Make sure you’re twisting counter-clockwise (“righty tighty, lefty loosey”). If the fittings are really stuck, a wrench or channel lock pliers can give you leverage. Wrap the connecting nuts with painter’s tape or a rag first so you don’t gouge the finish. A few drops of penetrating oil around the seam can help loosen stubborn metal fittings.
3. Now hold your breath (it’s bound to be a tense moment…and a stinky one). Shake out the pipe over the bucket to see if your ring is there.
4. You’ll rarely get a good seal again when you reconnect the pipes. To prevent leaks:
Take it to the store with you and buy a replacement.

basin and check for leaks.

Vinegar or lemon juice can be too acidic for cleaning stone tile or countertops. Abrasives in some cleaners may damage the sealant and the stone.

Lexol® Leather Cleaner/Leather ConditionerA pH balanced cleaner and a conditioner help maintain durability and sheen.
Washing MachinesAhhh…the scent of fresh laundry. Ewww…the musty smell that can build up in washing machines.
Affresh® Washer CleanerOne tablet tossed in for its own wash cycle dissolves residue. Penetrating bubbles find and eliminate odors. Recommended by major appliance manufacturers.
DishwashersAll that hot water and detergent should make this one of the cleanest spots in your house. But there’s also all that old food, bacteria and hard water churning around.
Dishwasher Magic® CleanerCleans and sanitizes in one wash cycle. Eliminates bacteria like E. coli and salmonella. Removes lime and rust deposits that can clog or damage your appliance. Safe for plumbing and septic systems.
Exterior SidingMold, mildew or algae build-up on your siding won’t add curb appeal – unless you’re a hobbit.
Mold Armor® House WashSimply spray on, wait a few minutes, and rinse off.
WATER-BASED OR WATERBORNE: WHAT DO THEY MEAN? There’s no official or regulated use of these terms. Manufacturers usually use them to describe products that use water as the solvent, delivery agent or main liquid ingredient. It usually distinguishes them from products with main ingredients like acetone, petroleum distillates, glycol ethers or high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). But some water-based products may still contain lower levels of VOCs.
Wood and Laminate FlooringExcessive water can cause swelling. Acidic cleaners, like vinegar, can break down your finish.
Bona® Hardwood Floor CleanerSpray on a fine mist, and wipe off with a special mop. Gently cleans the surface and protects the sheen. Non-toxic, biodegradable, waterborne.
