Pride of the Continent - The World’s First Black African UCI MTB Team

1. INTRODUCTION TO ACE LESOTHO MTB TEAM

ACE Lesotho MTB Team is a UCI MTB Team with a difference. Thepurpose of the team is to identify cycling talent from the developingnations of Africa, particularly Lesotho and give those riders anopportunity to cycle on the world’s biggest MTB stages. We have aproven record of seeing young riders aspiring to big dreams, developingself-confidence and rising above the poverty and hopelessness that theywere born into. Four of the 2014 team members have lost either oneor both parents, which is not uncommon in a country with such a highHIV/AIDS rate.

Not Another Charity CaseBefore dismissing this proposal as another charity case - one of manythat you receive (and your brand is already committed to other greatcauses) please consider our results. This team is bridging the gapbetween social upliftment and a Pro Team endorsement. You may welldiscover that our team is actually achieving better results than some ofthe teams you are already considering for sponsorship. We started offour racing programme well-off the pace of international standards, butwe are quickly improving and are currently ranked in the top half of UCIrankings. We are matching other “factory” and “pro” teams in thoserankings.

The Switzerland/ Colorado/ Columbia of AfricaLesotho has great potential to produce good MTB riders. Its high altitude, mountain topography and climate reminds many of Colorado US andSwitzerland in Europe. Its people can be compared to Columbians witha good power to rate ratio and natural VO2 max. There is justified

optimism to believe that Lesotho can produce world class athletes inthe future if given the right support.

We Need Your SupportIt has not been an easy road for the team so far. In the 2014 season theteam only had 3 bikes between 7 team riders and we had to share bikesbetween race categories or loan bikes, but that did not stop us. Rankeda lowly 162 in the UN Development Index, Lesotho has little or noattractive market potential for African distributors so finding the rightpartners and sponsors has been difficult. We need your support!

Great Brand AmbassadorsWe stand out from the rest of the crowd and provide your brand withgreat ambassadors. The polite and courteous upbringing of our ridersleads them to be natural appreciative and loyal ambassadors. Thestunning scenery of Lesotho, which is renowned for its harsh nature, also provides a great backdrop for you to highlight your brand.

2. VISION & GOALS

The standard of competitive cycling in Lesotho has been growing at anexponential rate over past seasons. Lesotho riders are setting the pacefor African MTB and have already made an impact on the internationalcycling scene. This proposal sets out our plans and how you can be partof this exciting team and grass-roots cycling initiative.

We have succeeded in becoming the first indigenous (black) Africanteam to be licensed as an International Cycling Union MTB Team andin 2015/16 we plan to build on our successes towards RIO 2016 OlympicGames.
