According to the State Grading System:“White, African-American, Hispanic,
Economically Disadvantaged, English Language Learners students in this school need improvement in Reading” (Florida School Grades 2012)
There is a need for student improvement in Reading at Bellalago Academy; the Achieve3000 program is used at Bellalago to continue to support school wide literacy.
The Achieve3000 program is a “web-based differentiated K-12 reading program that uses email, technology, and current events to strengthen student’s literacy skills” (Achieve3000, 2010).
The Achieve3000 program is designed as a research based program to increase student’s literacy skills by teaching them how to read effectively through the use of high interest nonfiction articles.
The program is designed to individualize student’s lessons that correlate to common core state standards while allowing multiple students to read the same article to discuss correlations as a class with supplemental instruction from the classroom teacher.

Describe how the school-based LLT functions (e.g., meeting processes and roles/functions).
The team meets monthly after school hours. School wide literacy initiatives are discussed and reviewed. Program planning forparent events takes place. School wide trend data in Reading is reviewed specific to the area of main idea instruction.
What will be the major initiative of the LLT this year? The literacy council will review school wide data trends. The council will review FCAT 2.0 and prepare teachers the 2011 FCATReading administration. The team will continue to provide parent / student programs to support school wide literacy(Accelerated Reader incentives, Kid/Teenbiz incentives, Fall Festival mystery readers, Mysteries in the Middle (for middleschool).
As a future savvy school leader I have learned the importance of reading and interpreting school data in reference to school wide technology initiatives.
Most important is that students are taught how to use the program and have some sense of ownership to utilize the program to their best ability.
