What is it?

Acid rain is rain or any other precipitation that is more acidic than normal (5.2- 5.6). In this PowerPoint I am going to explain the causes and the effects of acid rain.

What causes it?The most important causes of

acid rain are sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx ) that have been thrown into the air, but there are other substances that can cause the acidic rain such as:

Carbon oxides, carbon monoxide, lead, chlorofluorocarbons, ozone, hazardous air pollutants and particulate matters.

How does it happen?

Acid rain occurs when the gases that I have told you before, react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form various acidic compounds. As I will show in the next slide, this gases are mostly formed in the factories, normally by burning fosil fuels.

Real Experiences: Monuments

In the next slides I will show you how acid rain can affect beautiful monuments by making them lose their beauty. There are lots of monuments that have been affected by the acid rain but I have seen this two that I think, are the most affected by the acidic rain.

Real Experiences: Natural Habitats

Some times, acid rain falls in the worst place it can fall… in natural habitats. There, all the animals and plants are destroyed. In the next two slides I show two important habitats that have been destroyed by acid rain.

Real Experiences: Countries

Some countries are more affected by acid rain than others, and sometimes, those countries aren't the ones who produce the acid rain. Because of acid rain traveling long distances on clouds not always the countries that produce it are affected with it. Here are two Europe maps that show how Europe is affected by acid rain.
