Thermoformed foam

[ Industry]

Thermoforming also allows small production runs of the complex shapes often requested by the industry, and represents a valid alternative to the traditional and expensive moulding processes. For example, the component with fire rating Class 1, often lined with protective fabric or film and oil resistant, with one adhesive side for pre-assembly are widely used for the inside of industrial machinery. In the fashion industry, specifically the production of bags and luggage, we are currently wiitnessing huge grow the of thermoformed components, as the easy shaping and poss ibility of coupling to precious materials are considered a strong added value.

[Protections]

The protection offered by thermoformed foam material makes it poss ible to make knee -pads, “turtle shells” for skiers and motorcyclists, seat covers and many other items aimed at body protection. Thermoformed materials are also successfully used to protect objects during the handling and storage phase.

20

Ther

mof

orm

ed fo

am

Thermoformed foam

[Packing/Packaging]

Thermoforming fully satisfies the needs for protection, a llowing the production of hghly sophisticated packing which could not be otherwise ob tained through co ld processes . The possibility to thermoform coloured foam materials or to couple the thermoformed components to valuable materials also makes it possible to manufacture packing material that protects and communicates at the same time.

[ Automotive ]

The variety and complexity of production in t he automotive sector impose a high degree of customization of accessory components, wiich have to blend in perfectly with the m ain par ts. The elasticity of thermoformed t hree-dimensional pi eces t hat ca n adapt perfectly to the piece t be insulated eliminates problems tied to the passage of air, water, dust and heat. The use of thermoforming makes it poss ible to product three-dimensional heat protections capable of resisting temperature of up to approximately 200°C.

[Orthopaedics ]

The fact that polyethylene is non-toxic and non-allergic means that it can come in direct contact with the human body; thermoforming offers the possibility to shape this material to easily obtain “pieces” that anatomically adapt to the various par ts of the body, such asbra ces, corsets, reinforcements, insoles and anything else required by the orthopaedic sector.

Finished products

At the customer’s request, Ites S.p.A. can follow a ll p rocessing phases o f t he thermoformed components, from consulting t o design, up to the delivery of t he finished and complete pieces, where ne eded, of hinges, handles and various accessories which the customer can choose from a l arge catalogue. Lastly, Ites S .p.A. can also offer a packing and packaging service.

[Characteristics] Extremely t ransparent, its dimensional stability allows for narrow tolerances even after repeated heating and drying cycles. It can come in contact with lighting sources and with other heat-emitting components. The Lexan Film range consists of three main categories: Shiny, Embossed and HP (High Performance).

• Shiny Lexan: they allow ligh t t ransmission

included between 86% and 92%. • Embossed L exan: c haracterized by an ti-

reflection embossing, they meet the needs for light diffusion and control. The embossing, crucial when symbols and graphics need to be emphasized, also hides any scratches.

• HP Lexan: they offer excellent resistance to attack by chemical subs tances and to abrasion. Especially recommended for membrane switches, anti-reflection screens for computers, d isplays and f ront panels of television sets and audio/video devices, washing machines and microwave ovens . Lexan FR 700 dielectric: it combines high perforation resistance (even under extreme temperature cond itions) and exceptional dielectric r igidity, a long with UL rating. Perfect for the insulation of high-pressure power supplies, plates for printed circuits and monitors.

[ Use ] Ideal in the screen printing sector for the production of back-lit front panels or for applications that require ttansparency and resistance to temperature.

[ Supply conditions ] Lexan films are supplied in rolls or in sheets cut to measure.

Eslon DC

[ Material] Antistatic sheets in PVC, PMMA and polycarbonate PC).

[Characteristics] The Eslon DC antistatic dissipative materials make it possible to control electrostatic charges that would otherwise damage printed circuits or semiconductor contacts.

Both sides have a conductive coating that provides a surface res istivity of 106 -107 O hm: consequently, they are considered static dissipative materials. The conductive layer does not compromise the excellent transparency offered by these sheets. Their efficacy stays constant overt time.

[ Use ] The Eslon DC sheets are widely employed in microelectronics: excellent the use in various types of glazing for white chambers, for devices used to test electronic circuits, for safety protections installed on ESD machines or for ESD workstations. The PC and PVC sheets are fire rated according to standard UL 94 ; the PMMA sheets are se lf-extinguishing accord ing to standard J ISK6911. The PVC shee ts a lso comply with MVSS302 requirements.

[ Supply conditions ] The material can be supplied in sheets or processed according to the customer’s specifications.
