    Sprague High School ASBElection Packet 2011-2012

    Thank you for your interested in running for the Associated Student Body Executive Board! The ASBExecutive Board is comprised of: ASB President, ASB Vice President, ASB Treasurer, ASB Secretary,ASB Spirit Commissioner, ASB Inter-Club Council Commissioner, ASB Historian, ASB AwarenessCommissioner, Oly Nation Commissioner, Link Crew Commissioner, ASB Marking Manager, ASBTechnical Commissioner, Outreach Coordinator, Oly Pageant Coordinators (2), Fine Arts/MusicCommissioner, Sports Commissioner, and House of Representatives Commissioners (2). Please note: ASB President, ASB Vice President, ASB Treasurer, and ASB Secretary are the only positions that areelected positions. All other positions are appointed. Please see Mrs. Fisher in room 132 if you havequestions about this.

    Being on ASB is an important job that requires a lot of time, effort, dedication and responsibility. It also isvery rewarding, gives you great memories, opportunities to have fun, and gets you involved in the schooland the decisions that affect every student. ASB officers are in charge of the school activities for the entireyear. Please read this packet carefully. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations will result indisqualification. If you have and questions, please see ASB President Grant Lemons or Mrs. Fisher inroom 132 before or after school or during lunch. Be sure you know the deadlines and meet them. Thank you for supporting your student body, your school, and for wanting to impact lives and change futureshere at Sprague High School!

    ASB Officers must satisfy the following requirements to be a member of the ASB Executive Board:

    Must be a full time student at Sprague High School. Must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA starting with the March 12th (1st- 6 week grading period of 2010-2011( school year through the completion of the 2010-2011 school year. This will be determined asthe grade in the In-Touch Computer System at the time the packet is due. Must enroll and maintain enrollment in the ASB class (Student Executive Board) throughout the2011-2012 school year. (This class will most likely be during 1st period, but with the the schedule changethis may be different.) Must attend all portions of summer leadership training. If you cannot attend this you may not be able tojoin the class in the fall. This date will be established in April. Must attend Link Crew/New Oly Day. Must receive library clearance and Bookkeeper clearance or clearance from the SpragueSchool Activities Director. Must return the ASB code of conduct signed by both student and parent/guardian, acknowledging thereading this contract, ASB executive board standards and election rules. Must purchase an ASB card ($30) for the 2011-2012 school year. Opportunities for sponsorship areavailable if this is financially impossible. Please talk to Mrs. Fisher or the 2011-2012 ASB President prior to September 1, 2011.

    Must be ready to commit a lot of time and energy into keeping Sprague as the best school in the area. If previous enrolled in leadership, must have maintained a B or above in order to apply/run again. Must not have discipline issues and must be up-to-date with graduation credits.

    Sprague High SchoolASB Code of Conduct

    Please read through carefully

    I, the undersigned, solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will abide by the following Code of Conduct set forthby Sprague High School. The following standards of eligibility, conduct, and responsibilities shall apply

    to all members during their term of office. The term of office shall run from June 17th to June 15th of thegiven school year.

    I. Academic Achievement I will maintain an academic 2.0 grade point average starting with the 1st grading period of secondsemester 2010-2011 school year through my entire term. This will be determined using the SASI Systemat the time the election packet is due. If I receive less than a 2.0 GPA during a semester, I understand that there will be consequences andlimitations to my involvement in ASB. Receiving less than 2.0 could be cause for dismissal from officeby the administration of Sprague High School.II. Behavioral Standards As a member of ASB, I realize that my conduct must be beyond reproach at all times, on and off campus. (It is critical that you understand the full implications of this statement. Violation will result indismissal from office. Ask Mrs. Fisher if you need further explanation). I will uphold the constitution and my oath of office. I will cooperate with and support the ASB President, Activities Director and Sprague High SchoolAdministration. I will abide by school dress regulations at all times. I will not carry nor use any illegal chemical substances or stimulants, drugs, alcohol, etc. at any time, onand off campus. I will display good sportsmanship at all times and serve as an ambassador for Sprague High School atother schools. I understand if I am suspended from Sprague High School, I may be suspended from ASB temporarilyor permanently, as determined by the Sprague High School Administration Team. Leadership Class/Leadership TrainingLeadership class is an essential part of ASB. Being a part of this class means you will constantly learnhow to improve your leadership skills. I will attend all of leadership retreat during the summer.IV. Responsibilities of Office I understand that attendance to class is mandatory.     ASB PresidentTask: Run an assembly, a meeting,or a leadership break-out sessionInstructions: Three of your major responsibilities include emceeing assemblies, running executivebudget/voting meetings, and helping Mrs. Fisher implement various leadership trainings/curriculum.Gather a group of people together to either plan and implement an assembly or a meeting or put together a

    leadership break-out session for the panel.The ASB. President of Sprague High School must have at least one year of Student Council experience in highschool (grades 10-12) prior to running for office. The ASB President shall prepare the agenda and preside over for all Council meetings. He/She shall also be in charge of planning the calendar of Student Council events for theschool year. If the ASB President considers an issue sufficiently important, he/she may call a special meeting whereall members of the ASB. Cabinet shall meet to decide on the issue.     ASB Vice PresidentTask: Run an assembly, a meeting,or a leadership break-out sessionInstructions: The ASB Vice President plays an integral role in supporting the ASB President. The ASBVice President emcees assemblies, supports the ASB President in running meetings, and supports Mrs.Fisher in implementing leadership break-out sessions and curriculum. Gather a group of people together to either plan and implement an assembly or a meeting or put together a leadership break-out session for

    the panel.

    The ASB Vice President shall work cooperatively with the ASB President and shall assume the office of ASB President in case of absence. He/She is in charge of running all elections during their elected term.The ASB Vice President will also assist the ASB President in planning the calendar of Student Councilevents of the year. The ASB Vice-President is second in the Chain of Command and is Co-Chairperson of the ASB Executive Council.

    DUTIES:1. Assume the ASB Presidential position and responsibilities upon the absence of the electedASB President.2. Serve as the secondary student representative for Sprague High School.3. Serve as Co-Chairperson for all ASB Student Council business meetings.4. Organize the yearly Council installation and recognition of the outgoing Council (the ASBPassing-of-the-Torch).5.     ASB SecretaryTask: Create an agenda for a meeting Instructions: One of the major roles of the ASB Secretary is to work with the Activities Director/ASBPresident to run executive and budget meetings. It is your responsibility to keep the minutes anddistribute them to Mrs. Fisher and the Administrative Team. Create an agenda for a meeting including the

    following: budget update, voting on the minutes from previous meeting, plans for new Battle of theSexes assembly.

    The Associated Student Body (A.S.B.) Secretary is the primary student in charge of recordsfor A.S.B. Student Council meetings and activities. The A.S.B. Secretary is in charge of all A.S.B.elections. The A.S.B. Secretary is fourth in the Chain of Command and a member of the A.S.B. ExecutiveCouncil.

    DUTIES:1. Prepare and distribute the Student Council Roster.2. Maintain minutes for all A.S.B. business meetings, making sure they are prepared and ready to bedistributed at each business meeting.3. Organizes the process for nominating Homecoming court.4. Plans and organizes the Homecoming Game entertainment. This usually includes theintroduction of the Queens and their fathers before the varsity game announcing theHomecoming King and Queen at half-time5. Serve as a member of the A.S.B. Executive Council.6. Plans, coordinates, and referees Freshman Elections. Identifies candidates and assists them in their campaigns.7. Finds candidates for A.S.B. President and Vice President and assists them in their campaigns.8. Plan and act as M.C. for the annual Elections Convention and Elections Assembly. Organize andimplement the elections process for these elections.9. Find candidates for Senior, Junior, Sophomore President and Vice-President for the Class Elections.Should assist and instruct them in their campaigns. Organizes and implements the election process for

    these elections.10. Find Candidates for the A.S.B. appointed positions. Instructs them on the petitioning process. Presidesover the selection process for these officers.11.     ASB TreasurerTask: Design a budget Instructions: Create a budget for ASB based on the following scenario: The Activities Director has toldyou that you will need to prepare the budget for the school year with her. You will need to be prepared inadvanced for this meeting. You have been notified that ASB has $9,000.00 to run all assemblies,activities, and dances for the school year. You must remember that some of our biggest activities include:

    Homecoming Week, Hoover, Winter Spirit Week, Clash of the Classes, Battle of the Sexes, Prom, and OlyLuau, and Senior Recognition Week. The Freshman class as $50.00, the Sophomore class has $100.00,the Junior class has $300.00, and the Senior class has $800.00. Create a budget using this information.

    ASB Treasurer

    The treasurer shall keep the council posted on budgetary matters and shall keep a list of differentorganizations and their financial status. At the beginning of the school year he/she will prepare a budgetfor the Student Activity Fund. In addition, the A.S.B. Treasurer shall work cooperatively with the schoolsecretary in charge of Student Activity accounts.DUTIES:1. Prepare and present a weekly treasurers report for the weekly business meetings.2. Oversee the sale of all dance tickets.3. Assist the Director of Student Activities in the maintenance of the bank.4. Responsible for presenting fundraising ideas to the Student Council, and then carrying out thoseplans if the idea is passed.5. Responsible for maintaining the flow of revenue for the A.S.B. for activities benefiting thestudent body.6. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.7.     Spirit CommissionerTask: Create an outline of your ideal assembly.Directions: Create an outline of a major assembly and justify why you arranged the assembly the way thatyou did. Also, be prepared to answer what planning needs to go into the design and implementation of the assembly.

    The Spirit Commissioner shall work cooperatively with school administration, the student council andadvisor to plan and organize school assemblies and is responsible for helping in the organization of pepassemblies. The Spirit Commissioner will also be in charge of keeping old traditions and coming up withnew traditions.DUTIES:- Plan all spirit weeks- Decide upon spirit day themes- Recruit bands to play during lunchtime- Plan lunchtime activities- Work with Class Council to get participants for spirit competitions during lunchtime- Form and chair a Spirit Competition committee- Attend and help organize the Game of the Week (GOWs)- Plan periodic lunchtime spirit activities- Notify staff and publicize lunchtime spirit activities- Participate on various A.S.B. committees-Participate in all A.S.B activities-Coordinate and direct all rehearsals prior to the rallyQUALIFICATIONS:1.     ASB Inter-Club Council CommissionerTask: Create the first ICC Meeting Agenda and one advertisement for a club of your choice.Directions: This new position will be quite the undertaking. It is your responsibility to run monthlymeetings with club advisors/representatives, support officially ASB sanctioned clubs through advertisingand other communication. Create an advertisement showcasing a club of your choice and put together ameeting agenda for the first ever Inter-Club Council meeting for all of the clubs. Be sure to justify why

    you chose what you did for the first meeting.

    The Inter-Club Council is the ASBs connection with the various organizations on campus.The Inter-Club Council Chair organizes and oversees monthly meetings with representative from everychartered organization and club. Part of the responsibilities of this representatives is to help makedecisions regarding rules and regulations, share ideas about fundraising events, talk about club accounts,and communicate with their respective clubs. At inter-club meetings, the representatives will getinformation about upcoming food faires, receive information on club training, discuss issues that areimportant to clubs, and communicate amongst each other to see the progress made by the clubs over theyear.

    DUTIES:Set procedures for formal club recognition.Ensure that the formal club recognition process has been successfully completed.Maintain current records of clubs constitutions and organizational lists.Maintain a current phone list of all club representatives.Maintain the club lists board located in the Commons.Administer budgetary policies of the Inter-Club Council.Set appropriate budgetary policies for the Inter-Club Council.Set budgetary meeting for all clubs in the spring.Help determine the Inter-Club Council and club budgets per fiscal year (in spring).Set a club information meeting the first month of the school year.Set any policies or procedures to assist in the execution of any of the named duties and responsibilities.Organize advertising requests from clubs.

    ASB HistorianTask: Take pictures of an event and either prepare a facebook page or a scrapbook.Instructions: This job will require you to be flexible and support many positions. When it comes to anevent, your job will require you to get behind the lens and take pictures/video of events we throw. Puttogether either a facebook page or a scrapbook. Showcase your photography/videography skills byputting together a sample facebook page with captions or a scrapbook. The scrapbook can be an online

    scrapbook.

    DUTIES:-Compiles ASB memory book for the year (distributed at banquet)-Keep up facebook page/update with photos/tag people-Keep files of ASB minutes, agendas, financial reports-Take photos and/or video at events-To create a school wide scrapbook (AND an ASB scrapbook)-To take photographs at all assemblies and school events.-Read daily newspapers and clip Los Al stories-Coordinate schedule for each ASB member to take photos-Save photos on computer for eventual multiyear slide show-Assist Publicity as needed-Classroom deliveries (take a photo?)-Host Scrap booking club twice a month-Photograph dance entry (or delegate)-Will assist with Mr. Griffin-Will assist with all dances-Will assist with all assemblies-Will assist in classroom housekeeping duties-Will supervise and coordinate organization of classroom supply room-Other duties as assigned

    ASB Awareness CommissionerTask: Identify one area where Sprague High School should be aware. Create a program that addressesthis issue.Instructions: The major role of the ASB Awareness Commissioner is to plan events every 6 weeks thatmake the Sprague Student Body aware. Plan and implement an awareness program and present it to thepanel. Be sure to include what thoughts you had in the planning and implementation process and why

    your event would benefit Sprague High School

    DUTIES:-Promote diversity and on-campus unity-Support cultural exchange programs-Promote cultural holidays-Aid in the creation of new clubs, programs, activities, and assemblies that promote tolerance of alldiverse groups-Work closely with the commissioner of clubs and the commissioners of rallies and spirit to include alldiverse groups of people in school sponsored activities-Aid Administration with Middle School Visitations-Promote awareness events on campus every six weeks

    Oly Pageant CoordinatorsTask: Imagine that this was the first year Sprague High School offered Oly Pageant.     Task: Trouble shoot on the spot a number of errors that Mrs. Fisher draws to your attention.Instructions: This position is the most challenging. This position requires someone who can keep up witha fast pace, works well in emergency/last minute situations. Because this job requires you to fill in wherenecessary (essentially serve as Mrs. Fishers right hand man/woman), the task you will receive will be on

    the spot.
