“It’s just been huge,” he said. “We’re get-ting more and more referrals from happy cus-tomers. We’re busier than ever. It’s telling mewe’re giving a great service to the public andobviously, they’re happy with what they’regetting.”

Things are hopping at the 533 S. LapeerRd. (Suite B) shop to the point whereNiepokuj had to add a night shift just tokeep up with the demand and maintain agood turnaround time.

“We’re that busy right now. It’s just in-credible,” he said.

In business in Oxford for five years now,Auto Collision Solutions offers collision re-pairs, auto detailing (both inside and out),rust repair and restoration, and work on vin-tage vehicles.

They even have a scanning computer thatenables technicians to identify problems withengine, brakes and airbag systems.

“If the ‘check engine’ light comes on, wecan tell you what caused it to come on and fix

Auto Collision Solutions helps their cus-tomers stay on the road while their vehicle’sin the shop by offering free loaner vehicles.

“We’ve got about four vehicles to offer,”Niepokuj said. “There’s no charge or time

limit. You use it as long as we’re working onyour vehicle. We’re trying to make things asconvenient as possible for our customers.”

When it comes to insurance deductibles,Auto Collision Solutions is always more than

willing to work with customer s.“Times are tough,” Niepokuj

said. “If I can help somebody outby covering par t of their deduct-ible, I’m going to do it in a heart -beat. Sure, it’s less profit for me,but I want to help people as muchas I can.”

Auto Collision Solutions alsodoes fiberglass gel coat repairs onboats and wave-runners.

“We typically do about 10 to15 boats a year,” Niepokuj said.“It’s a really convenient serviceconsidering how many boat own-ers and lakes we have aroundhere.”

Niepokuj began working in hisfield at a dealership more than 30years ago.

But he wanted to be his ownboss and he wanted things done

right, so he eventually went into business forhimself. He owned a shop in Warren for fiveyears, before moving his operation north toOxford five years ago.

Today, he works with three other techni-

cians. Combined, they have more than 73years experience between them. They can anddo work on all makes and models of vehicles.

So what separates Auto Collision Solu-tions from its competitors? In a word – time.

“A lot of places pay their technicians oncommission – the more work they get done,the more money they make,” Niepokuj ex-plained. “They do job as fast as they can, sothey can get to the next job.”

“I pay my technicians a sa lary, so no mat-ter how much work they do, they get paid thesame amount,” he noted.

As a result, Niepokuj believes his techni-cians pay more attention and work at a moremethodical pace, all of which leads to a higherquality job in the end. “They finish the jobthey have instead of worrying about gettingto the next one,” he said.

Unlike dealerships that charge customersbig bucks and “really don’t care about theproduct,” Niepokuj said his business is muchmore customer-friendly. “We’re more in-tunewith the customer’s vehicle and needs,” hesaid. “That’s our livelihood.”

Akins and Lynn Harmon, partners atMimi's Metals in Lake Orion.

"We know if we're honest with people,they're not only going to come back,they're also going to tell their family andfriends about us, and that's the best kindof advertising we can get," said Smith,who began collecting coins as a child some25 years ago.

Established in 2008 and open in its cur-rent location since November, Mimi's Met-als buys, sells and trades all precious met-als, including gold, silver, platinum, andpalladium.

For Smith, what started as a hobby soonbecame a passion. The draw, he explained,was both the artistic value of the differentdesigns, as well as the historical aspect -knowing the pieces were once traded asactual currency.

As he read any information he couldfind on the topic, Smith began buying pre-cious metals as a mechanism for saving -and recommending others do the same.

"It can be difficult for a lot of people tosave money," he said. "By investing in pre-cious metals, you're saving, as well as pre-
