Welcome: Welcome to Adamstown Community College. We are a co-educational, non-denominational school under the patronage of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB). The school opened in 2009 in line with the strategic development plan for the new town of Adamstown. We accommodate students from the Adamstown and greater Lucan areas as well as from designated feeder schools in our catchment area.

Application and Enrolment Procedure The school hosts an open evening everyOctober for fifth (5th) class students and their parents. This gives students anopportunity to see the schoolandexperiencesubjectsfirsthand.Applicationsareaccepted from thenuntil the followingMarch. We have an on-line application process which is completed through our web site. Places are offered each April and must be accepted within two weeks. During 6th class, students will sit an assessment test and may apply for the school’s book rental scheme as well as choosing their optional subjects.

Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board was created in 2013 by the amalgamation of VECs in both areas. DDLETB manages 31 second level schools in the greater Dublin area. It is responsible for the physical assets, financial managementand recruitment for the school.

It provides an opportunity to participate in work experience, educational trips and fundraising.
leaving CertifiCate applied programme:This programme is designed to prepare students for life after school, focussing on personal enterprise and the world of work. The two-year programme consists of four half-year blocks called sessions. Achievements are credited in each session.

Student CouncilThe student council provides a forum for students to express their opinions and allows them to play a partnership role with staff, parents and school management. The council is elected by the students consisting of a representative from each year group.

Extra-Curricular ActivitiesWe promote participation by students in at least one extra-curricular activity as part of their school experience.
SportSportandcompetitivegamesareanintegralpartoftheextra-curricularactivitiesinACC.TheseincludeCamogie,GaelicFootball,Soccer,Basketball,andAthletics.Wealsocaterforbadminton,karate,tabletennisanddodgeball.
muSiCEveryChristmaswestageaschoolvarietyshowandwestagedourfirstschoolmusicalrecently,“Backtothe80s”.Wehavevarious bands in the school and a choir who perform at local events and in the ETB festival of music.

paStoral Care and Student SupportAll members of the school staff exercise a caring role towards our students. Each class is assigned a tutor who monitors their progressandwelfare.TutorsandstudentsaresupportedbyaYearHead.The guidance counsellors assist students who may need personal support. They also help students with subject choices and collegeapplications.Ourlearningsupportteamprovideextraassistanceforstudents,particularlyinEnglishandMathematics.Page 8

Board of ManagementAdamstown Community College is a non-designated Community College and has a ten member Board consisting of representatives of teaching staff, parents, the ETB and local organisations. The Board determines the ethos of the college and is responsible for the management of the school which it delegates to the Principal.
Student LeadersClasscaptainsandvice-captainsareelectedinaprocessinvolvingstudentsandstaff.SeniorPrefectsaresimilarlyelected.Theyarerepresentativesofsixthyearstudentswhoorganiseeventsspecifictosixthyearaswellasparticipatinginotheraspects of school organisation. They elect the head boy and head girl.Ourseniorstudentsmayalsoapplytobeconsideredasstudentmentors.Theyplayanimportantroleinhelpingandassistingjuniorstudents,particularlyfirstyears,astheysettleintoschool.OurCaraAireinitiativeisanimportantpartoftheoverallanti-bully policy in the College.
Awards and achievementsWeoperateameritawardprogrammeforindividualstudentsandclassesatjuniorcycle.Attendancecertificatesarepresentedtostudentswhodemonstrateexceptionalattendance.BursariesareawardedtotheGaeltachtandtostudentswhogainplacesontheCTYIprogrammeinDCU.Eachyearastudentoftheyearawardisgiventostudentswhoshowoutstandingacademicachievement.A“SpiritoftheCollege”awardispresentedtothestudentineachyeargroupwhobestdemonstratesthevaluesofourcollege.
The parents’ councilTheparents’councilwasestablishedin2010andplaysasignificantroleinthelifeoftheschool.Regularmeetingsensurethatparents have a say in policy development. Parents volunteer to help with the book rental scheme and fundraise for particular projectswithintheschoolsuchasasoundsystemandschooldefibrillator.AnAGMisheldeachOctobertoelectacentralcommittee.
Anti-BullyingAnanti-bullying agreementmust be signed by parents and students at the beginning of each school year. Students areencouragedto“mindeachother”andreportincidentsofbullying.Ourschoolvaluesrespect,toleranceanddiversityandrecognises that what makes us different is what makes us a special school.Page 10
