Thechangeswillhelptopreventleadpoisoning,whichcreatesveryseriousmedi-calandbehavioralproblems.Leadinterfereswithachild’snormalbraindevelopment,resultinginlowerIQandbe-haviorproblemslikeaggres-

Childrenaremostcom-monlypoisonedbyleadfromlead-basedpaintdustorchipscreatedbyweatheringorrenovationinolderhomes.Tragically,somechildrenarepoisonedwhencontractorsorhomeownerstrytoremoveoldpaintwithoutusingsafemethods. Anewfederalandstaterulewentintoeffectthismonthtomakesurethatworkerswhodisturbpaintedsurfacesinolderhomesdon’tcontami-natehomeswithdangerous
leaddust.Allcontractorsmustnowbetrainedandcertifiedinlead-saferenova-tion,andadoptlead-safeworkpracticeswhenworkinginolderbuildings.Thisruleappliestorenovationprojectsthatdisturbpaintinresidentialpropertiesandchild-occupiedfacilities,includingchildcarefacilitiesandschools,builtbefore1978. MorethanadozenyouthfromtheSocialDevelopmentCommission’sYouthandFamilyDevelopmentProgram(YFDP)havegottenafirst-handlookathighereducation. 13youthfromtheSDCprogramrecentlytouredfiveuniversitycampusesinIndianaandTennessee.TheschoolsvisitedincludedtheUniversityofIndianapolis,Spaulding,MiddleTennessee,VanderbiltandTennesseeState.Staffaccompanyingtheyouthonthe2010CollegeTournotedthatthestudentsgainedalotofvaluableinformationonhighereduca-tionincluding,forexample,howoneschooloffersaprogramthatallowsenrolledstudentstograduatedebt-free. Manyofthe“churches”whoconfessJesusarenotpaintingapictureofJesusbe-ingthehead.Tothepoorandshut-inthereisnoevidenceofpowerforthemtosee,sotheyask“whydotheyneedtogotochurch?”Soinsteadtheyusethechurchforhandouts.Manyofour“churches”aretuckedawayinthecornersofbuildingsandboardmem-bers,insteadofwalkingthestreetshealing,prophesying,feedingthepoor,andshelter-ingthem.Nowpleasedonotgetmewrong,wehavemanygreatoutsideorganizationsthathelpbyusingalltheirresourc-esforourpeople.However,forthe“churches”whereis

Myproblemisnotwiththe“churches,”Godwilljudgeeachofthem.Myproblemis,ifthereisa“church”oneverycornerandwehavemega“churches”andtheycallonthenameofJesus,thenwithinthose“churches”whereisthepowerofJesustohelpourpeoplewhoarestrug-gling?WhereistheexampleofJesus?Notjustthepreach-ingof,butalsotheexampleofJesus,whereisit?ThepowerwheredeathisfacedrightinourbackyardandthemajorityofChristiansrunfromthem.TheseChristiansrunfromthembecausetheythinktheyarenowbetterthanthosefromwheretheyoncecame. Themajorityofchurchesnowadaysreallydonotcareaboutanyone;exceptthosewhocanpassthetestofmembership.What“churches”arelookingfornowadaysismoney,status,andkeepingupwiththe“Joneses”whileitseemstheyarepayingtheirdues--notrealizingtheyarenotholdingtothestandardofJesusbecausetheypaidtheirdueswithmoney.Whoisfeedingthethou-sands,healingthethousands,andbuildingdisciplesbythethousands?Instead,wehave“churches”oneverycornerwithnopower.Wehavemega
“churches”whereJesusistoohightoreach,andwehaveourpeoplewithnohopeofafuture,andfallingwithinthesystemofagovernmentthatdoesn’tcareforthemanyway. TogiveyouanexampleofwhatIamtalkingabout:Ihaveseenacouplewalkintoa“church”andtoldthatthis“church”mightnotbeforthem--isthisthepictureJesuswastryingtopaint?ThisisachurchbuiltwiththeideathatwhattheyaredoingisofGod’sword.MyJesusneverturnedawayanyone;sohowisit,“churches”couldpickandchoosethepeoplewhostay?Andthen,whileleach-ingmoneyfromthemwhodostay,the“church”leavestheirmembersnotevenknowingthebasicsofthe10com-mandmentsandofjudgments,letalonetheknowledgeoftheKingdomofGod,whichinturnshowsnopowerwithinthemajorityofourChristianbrothersandsistersleavingtheoutsiderslookingatourbrothersandsistersasbeingpowerlessandpimpedbythe“church.” Matthew18:5-6(KJV)5Andwhososhallreceiveonesuchlittlechildinmynamere-ceivethme.6Butwhososhalloffendoneoftheselittleoneswhichbelieveinme,itwerebetterforhimthatamillstonewerehangedabouthisneck,andthatheweredrownedin
thedepthofthesea. Thequestionis,howmany“churches”offendourpeople?Gettingthemsavedisonething,butwithouttheunderstandingofthejudg-mentthatwillcomeisanother.TooffendthechildrenofGodistosayyouareChristiansbutwithnopower,andtheway“churches”aresetupyouoffendthosewhowanttobelieveandtheyreceivenospiritualhealingwhichbringsjudgmentuntothosechurch-es. Whiletherearethosewhoaresupposedtobe,theimageofJesus,theyshowusapictureofSatanandnotevenknowit.Tothefollowersofthosewhoarewithinthose
“churches”andwhoknowitisnotbeingscripturallyrun,they’regoingalongjusttogetalongwhileourpeoplearestillhungryandindeathwhichbringsjudgmentuntoevery-one. Thetimehascomeforchangeandtheknowledgemustbetaughttothosewhoaretiredofplayingchurch.IfGodweretosendJesusrightnow,Ican’ttellyouhowsomanypeoplewillcometoJesusconfessingtoHimhowHeisLord.IseesoclearlythatJesuswillsaytothem,Iknowyounot.Withoutknow-ing,itisthepreacherwhoistoteachyouthetruthandiftheydon’tteachyouthetruththenyoucouldbejudged.Yesthatisright.Jesussaves,buttherestillisajudgmentontoyou. Ihavealectureforalltocomeandsitintolearnwhatthetruthis.Ihavecometounderstandthatslaveryisnotaphysicalstate,butamentalstate.AstheIsraelites
wereleavingEgypt-slaverytofreedom-eventhoughthelocationchanged,theywerestillholdingontotheirslaverymentality--tothatwhichkeptthemfrombeingfree.There-fore,torenewone’smindiskeytofreedom. ThemisconceptionistobelievethatreligionwillsaveyoufromSatan.Satandoesnotcareaboutreligion.Hewillsteal,kill,anddestroyanyonewholetshim.So,thebattleisstillaboutfreeingpeople’smindsinhowtobattleoffSatanwhowantstokeepev-eryoneinslavery,awayfromknowingwhotheyareinGod. ManagedHealthServices(MHS),whichhasprovidedservicesfortheBadgerCareprogramforseveralyears,wastheonlycompanynotse-lectedasacontractorduringthereselectionprocess,andthathaswidespreadimplica-tionsfortheCityofMilwaukeeanditsresidents–particularlyinminorityareas. MHShasbeenactivelyinvolvedthecommunity,
providinghealthcareservicestounderservedareasandpromotinghealthylifestylesintheAfricanAmericanandHispaniccommunities. Thecompanyspearhead-edacollaborationamongstHMOsinMilwaukeetopur-chaseleadpoisoningtestingequipment,andhashelpedtesthundredsofchildrenthisyearalone.TheywereamajorsponsorofChildHealthWeekandtheBacktoSchoolHealthandResourcefairs,providingstaffvolunteerstoanswerhealth-relatedques-tionsand$25,000infunding
forschoolsuppliesandback-packsforattendees. They’vepartneredwithParklawnCommunityofGodandUnitedCommunityCentertoprovideacom-bined$40,000tosupportthegroups’respectivefitnesscentertocombattheobesityepidemicamongminorities,andhavesponsoredlittleleaguesandafterschoolpro-gramstopromoteanactivelifestyleinchildren. AndMHShashelpedschedulehundredsofhealthanddentalcheckupsthroughtheircommunityoutreach
staff,andhasparticipatedinover25healthfairsin2009alone. ThesearevitalpublicservicesforMilwaukee.ToloseMHSasaBadgerCareproviderwouldmeanthelossofagreatdealofessentialcommunityprogramsandsponsorshipsthathavedonealotofgoodinthecity. Tomakemattersworse,oneofthecompaniesse-lectedforBadgerCare,AbriHealthPlan,won’tbeaWis-consincompanyformuchlon-ger.They’rebeingpurchasedbyMolinaHealthcare,whichis
basedinCalifornia. There’snoreasonwhyMHSshouldn’tbeallowedtocontinuetooperateasaBadgerCareprovider,andtheirservicesaredesperatelyneededinMilwaukee.Gov-ernorDoyleandDepartmentofHealthServicesSecretaryKarenTimberlakeshouldreexaminethecontractsthatwereawarded,anddowhat’sinthebestinterestofMilwau-keeresidents.
Inrecentdaysanenor-mousdiscussionhastakenformwithinmanyAmeri-canquarters,asDr.HenryLouisGateshasonceagainweighedinonthequestionofreparationsforAfricanAmeri-cans. TheHarvardProfessor’smostrecentarticleentitled,“EndingtheSlaveryBlameGame”,inwhichGatespro-ducesinformationregardingthoseAfricannationswhichactivelyaidedEuropeanslavemerchantsduringtheTrans-AtlanticSlaveTradehasfunctionedtonotonlybroadenthelensinwhichthistragiceventmaybeviewed,buthasalsoservedtoexplainthecomplexityinwhichculpabilitymaybeassessed. Gates,withinthearticle,makesmentionofseveralWesternandCentralAfricanpopulations,includingbutnotlimitedto,theAkanoftheAs-antekingdominwhatisnowGhanaandtheKongoofwhatispresentlyCongoasthosegroupsthatprofitedfromthesellingofAfricanstoEuropean

ProfessorGates’excur-sionsintothehistoryoftheAfricanholocaustandsub-sequentassessmentastothosepartieswhomayberesponsiblethereinaretobecommended.However,thescholar’ssuggestionsthatthefactnumerousAfricannationswereconsiderablyinvolvedinthedevelopmentofthishorrificevent,presentsanob-stacleregardingthepaymentoffundstothedescendantsofthevictimsmaybeinaccurate.Suchadeterminationmayemerge,astheprofessor’spropositionlackssomemea-sureofhistoricalperspective. InNaziGermany’sunfor-tunateeffortstoenactgeno-cideonitsJewishcitizens,considerablehardshipswereenduredbythispopulation.However,oncethisegre-giousaffronttohumanitywas
broughttoanend,theprevail-ingworldpowersdemonstrat-edlittledifficultyinprocuringcapitalfortheeffectedgroup.Thisrealityprevailedinlightofthefactothernationssup-portedandcontributedtothecreationofthisunspeakablesegmentofGermany’shistory. AidtotheJewishworldcommunitysurfacedtotheextentthatevenapopulation-ThePalestinians–thathadnothingtodowiththelamen-tableplightexperiencedbytheseEuropeanpeoples,wasdisplacedfromitslandsoastomakeavailablethisre-sourcetothosesurvivingthisholocaust;thusthecreationofIsrael. Inthefaceoftheneedforcheaplabor,thereisoneconsistentissueacrossthegenerationsthatcollideswiththisneed–race.Aseachpopulationofimmigrantshascome,whetherbybondageorbychoice,theirstatusas“Americans”hasbeendeter-minedbydegreesofwhite-ness.Thewhiteryouare,the

TheUnitedStatesgov-ernment,asreflectedbyitspastandcurrentfinancialandmilitaristicsupportofIsrael-similartothatofitsaidtothecitizensofBosnia-hasanestablishedhistoryofprovid-ingconsiderableresourcestomanyofthosegroupsthathaveexperiencedthepro-foundstingofgrossinhumanetreatment.Suchhasbeenthecase;irrespectiveofwhethertheUnitedStateshasbeenresponsibleforthesufferingofthesepopulationsornot. Additionallytheprofes-sor’sthoughts,viathisarticle,failtoaddresswhatoughttobethefundamentalquestionregardingthereparationsdebate. TheprimaryquestionwithrespecttoreparationsforAfri-canAmericanshingesnotonwhoisresponsibleforthesecrimesagainsthumanity,butratherwhatmeasuresmustbeimposedbythispeopletobringthisdesiredobjectivetofruition. AttheveryleasttheUnitedStatesalongwith
severalEuropeanandAfricannationsareculpableforthelegacyofslaverywithinthisnation.Ifadditionalentitiescanbeproventohavepar-ticipatedintheTrans-AtlanticSlavetrade,theytoo,mustbeheldaccountable,andmadetoproviderestitutiontothedescendantsofthoseeffectedparties. Thefailuretoposethisquestiononbehalfofthosescholars,whoengagethesubjectofreparations,be-speaksadesiretoavoidanyseriousdiscussioninregardtothematter. IntheinstanceofGates,itmaybesuggestedthatperhapshisdesiretoproposethegarneringofreparationsforAfricanAmericansliesonfaultyground,servesasatacticdesignedtoquellthisgroup’scallforjusticeinregardtotheissue. Sucharealityiscon-ceivable,asademandforreparationsfromanAfricanAmericanpublicincreasinglydisenchantedwithournation’sfirstAfricanAmericanPresi-dent,BarackObama,wouldfunctiontopotentiallycompro-misethepoliticalstandingofGates’longtimefriend. Inanefforttocurtailsucharequest,thereintroduc-tionofinformationthatwouldmaketherealityofobtainingpaymentforcenturiesofslav-erylessperceivable,functionstopotentiallyaccomplishthisgoal.Thedebateinregardtoreparationshasandwill
continuetobeasourceofcontentionamongtheAmeri-canpopulace.IfAfricanAmericansaretoeverengagethisissueinaseriousmanner,thoseindividualsinfluencingthediscussionmustframetheconversationtotheextenttheacquisitionofsuchagoalremainstheprimaryfocus.Accordingly,intellectualsandorscholarswhopresentideasthatruncontrarytotheultimaterealizationofsuchanaimmustnotbepermittedtoorchestratethedebate.Itwillonlybeunderthecon-ditionoftheAfricanAmericanpublic’sunrelentingresolvetofurtherhonortheirancestors’contributionstotheUnitedStatesofAmericainthisman-ner,therealizationoffinancialcompensationfortheircentu-riesoftoilwillfinditsexpres-sion. Inachievingsuchanend,thequestionforAfricanAmericansisnotsomuchoneofwhoisresponsibleforthelegacyofNorthAmericanslavery,butratherwhatmustbedonetosecurepaymentforthisdisastrousevent. Evenmore,thenewbestrightwingselleriscalled,TakeBackAmerica.Whoaretheytakingitbackfrom? TheArizonastruggleisaboutwhogetstobe“Ameri-can.”Is“American”ades-ignationonlybestoweduponthoseoftheWhiterace?It’saboutwhogetstovoteandgovernthiscountry.It’sabout“us,”peopleofcolor.By2040,thiscountrywillbema-joritypeopleofcolor.ThisfactcausesalotofangstandfearamongthosewhohavebeeninpowersincethiscountrywastakenfromourNativeAmericanfamily.It’sourtimetobuildunitynotdwellondivi-sions. FortheBlackfolksforwhomimmigrationisadifficultissue,letmeofferthis.Ourimmigrationsystemisadmit-tedlybrokenandCongress
andthePresidentmustmovequicklytofixit.Theeconomyisbleedingandpeopleofcoloraremosthurtbythis.Butdonotblameimmigrants.Instead,blamethecorpora-tionswhofeedoffexploitingunskilledlaborbyloweringwagesandtoooftenrobbingimmigrantsoftheirpayalto-gether.Thefixforoursystemrequirescrackingdownontheseemployers,whichwillraisepayandworkstandardsforall.Italsonecessitatesborderenforcementandapracticalpathtocitizenshipfortheimmigrantswhoarehere.Ourgovernmentcannotroundup12millionimmi-grantsandsendthemhome.It’simpossible.Insteadweneedtobringimmigrantsherewithoutdocumentsoutoftheshadows,allowingthemtoap-plyforcitizenshipandrequir-ingthatthesmallminoritythatdoesn’talreadypaytaxes,doso.
