ADJETIVOS DESCRIPTIVOS
(DESCRIPTIVE ADJECTIVES)
Descriptive adjectives are words that describe people, places and things
1. In English, adjectives usually come before the words they describe
E.g. The red car
In Spanish, they usually follow the words
E.g. El coche rojo
2. Adjectives in Spanish agree with the nouns they modify in number (singular or plural) and in the gender (masculine of feminine)Carlos es un chico
simpatico.
Carlos is a nice guy.
Adela es una chica simpatica.
Adela is a nice girl.
Carlos y Adela son (unos) chicos simpaticos
Carlos and Adela are (some) nice children.
3. A descriptive adjective can also follow the verb SER directly. When it does, it still agrees with the noun to which it refers, which is the subject in this caseMario es alto
Mario is tall
Karla es baja
Karla is short
Karla y Mario son delgadosKarla and Mario are thin.
