VACANCY – EXECUTIVE MANAGER: QUALITY AND SHE(EXTERNAL / INTERNAL)

PURPOSE OF JOB

This position will report to the Chief: Business Excellence and strategically position and support the department to enable the realization of the DLS vision and mission. To manage the Quality and SHE department and other specialist resources in order to provide a Corporate and Operational Business Excellence function. This is to include Product Assurance, SHE, and the implementation, education and maintenance of the ISO9000, ISO14000 and OSHAS 18001 Standards in DLS.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Strategic Management.

Contribute to and support the creation and realization of the DLS vision, strategy and objectives. Develop and maintain strategies for Quality and SHE in order to ensure the entrenchment of their

philosophies throughout the company. Top Management Representative for ISO 9001, 14001 & OHSAS 18001. Give guidance and

support to Executive Management with regards to the responsibilities and implementation of the ISO 9001, 14001 & OHSAS 18001 requirements.

Quality Management System (ISO 9001)

Ensure implementation, education and maintenance of a quality management system that conforms to ISO 9001.

Safety Health and Environment Management System (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001)

Ensure implementation, education and maintenance of a SHE management system that conforms to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

Supplier Quality

Provide specialist support to install, improve and maintain quality systems at suppliers in co-operation with Supply Chain.

Support to the Program Assurance and Industrialization teams

Provide support to the Program Assurance and Industrialization teams during development and industrialization.

Line Management of the Product Assurance and SHE Functions

Planning, budgeting, leading, organizing and controlling the activities of the functions.

Product Assurance Management

Develop a strategy, procedures and plans for the implementation and maintenance of the Product Assurance function

SHE Management

Develop a strategy, procedures and plans for the implementation and maintenance of the SHE function.

Quality and SHE coordination and control

Ensure that planned Quality and SHE activities are contracted and carried out according to agreed and/or specified standards, including various management plans. This is to include actions at suppliers.

Management system and supplier audits and Status Reporting

Implement and execute a comprehensive audit program to verify whether planned processes and activities are effective. This to include management system and supplier audits and the status thereof.

Companywide Quality & SHE Awareness and Training

Plan awareness and training programs. Facilitate companywide Quality and SHE training.

Strategic Relationships

Develop strategic relationships with the customers of DLS, suppliers and other DLS entities as well as organizations such as SAATCA, SASQ etc.

Have a strategic relationship with Executive Management to ensure buy-in and acceptance of the different strategies and to ensure that these strategies are driven from the top.

CRITICAL SKILLS

Additional directed Training: Quality Engineering (e.g. ASQC CQE, DLS Qual. 1&2), SHE and Quality Systems and Management. Management Auditing. System Engineering. Configuration & Data Management. Negotiation skills. Management and People skills. Software Quality Assurance. Process assessment(ISO 15504)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

B Tech Degree, Degree or equivalent (NQF 6). In total 15 - 20 years’ experience and exposure to the application of quality and SHE systems and

quality techniques and business process improvement during high complexity defense system development and production.

A minimum of 5 of these years in the role of Programme Quality Manager of such Programmes, with a demonstrated ability to obtain success in that role. Knowledge and interest in world best-practices in system assurance.
