The girls quickly settled in with their buddies on their first day of school at ATC. They had similar activities as the first group, and I must thank our secondary Heads and staff for their organisation and accommodation in their classrooms.

The third group will be arriving on 21 April with a contingency of 31 girls and two chaperons. They will be staying with us until 2 May.

V I C T O R I A N R E G I S T R A T I O N & Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S ( V R Q A ) A U D I TOur Administration and Education Departments have been busy for the past few months in preparation for our upcoming audit of all documents and processes. My earnest thanks to all Heads and the entire team for their time and effort contributed towards this important task. All the best for a successful outcome.

2 0 1 7 A N N U A L R E P O R TThe 2017 Annual Report is due with all reports ready for submission at the Annual General Meeting in May.

R A M A D A N The Holy month of Ramadan month will commence around 15 May depending on the new moon sighting. We anticipate to celebrate Eid on 14 June. There are many activities lined up for the month of Ramadan and our working bees are busy planning the events for our students and community. I wish all Muslims a blessed Ramadan and I would encourage parents and children to recite the Holy Quran especially during this time. Based on a hadith of `Abdullah b. `Amr in which the Prophet Muhammad (saw) instructed him to recite the Qur’an in 40 days. Another narration gives the minimum as once a month.

Our Term 1 holidays will commence from Thursday 29 March and Term 2 commencing on 16 April 2018. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone an enjoyable and safe holiday.

Wassalam

Dear Parents, Students & FriendsA S S A L A M U A L A I K U M

S T U D E N T L U N C H E S We are being inundated with parents arriving at the front office thorughout the entire day with their child’s lunch. Please ensure that your child has a healthy packed lunch in their school bag before they leave home in the morning. This creates a lot of wasted time for our staff.

L A T E A R R I V A L S A N D E A R L Y D I S M I S S A L S We are still experiencing many students arriving late each day. School commences at 8.50am and all students are expected to arrive ontime. If you are finding heavy traffic in the mornings, try the new carpark and if you can leave 10 minutes earlier each day, this will ensure an early arrival.

If your child is required to be collected early due to an appointment, please advise the Administration Office so they can have your child waiting for you in the foyer. Students who fall ill during the day will be contacted by the Nursing staff for collection from the First Aid Department.

S T U D E N T A P P O I N T M E N T STo avoid disruption to your child’s learning it is requested that medical or other appointments for your children are made outside of school hours.

V I S I T O R SAny parent, guardian or visitor must report to the Administration Office and sign in prior to entering the College grounds. This is necessary especially in the event of an emergency and also for the safety of all our staff and students.

S T U D E N T I D C A R D SAll students should have their own ID cards now, please ensure that your child keeps their ID card in their school bag at all times.

S P A R E C L O T H I N GWe have many younger students presenting to the front office due to bathroom accidents. For parents with children in Foundation and Grade 1, can you please provide an extra pair of pants, underwear and socks in their school bags.

S P E E D I N GOver the course of the year, we have found many parents speeding in the car parks. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous especially when smaller children pop out between cars. Please follow the actions of our staff on duty and keep in line with the speed on the school grounds at all times.

We had a great start to Term 1! Wow, we cannot believe how fast the term has gone and now we are at the end! Grade 3’s visited the CERES Environment Park to find out more about Aboriginal Culture and their way of life. The children had a good time and returned very enthused, wanting to know more about the local community and people who were here first. On the other hand, Grade 4 students tremendously enjoyed their excursion to Polly Woodside. As a complement to their History Unit, students had a glimpse and experienced the life of one of the first Australian immigrants on board the First Fleet.

Grade 3A and Grade 4A gave an inspirational performance during assembly. They showed confidence and entertained the audience with a beautiful nasheed with the message that Allah (swt) is always there for us! At the same time, dress up in our cultural clothes and celebrations during Harmony Day also reminded our students that although we are very diverse, we belong together as Australian Muslims.

A gentle reminder to all parents - students are required to read every night for a minimum of 20 minutes. This can be done independently, however we would like our students to practise their fluency, expression and monitoring skills by reading aloud to someone when possible.

Looking forward for another fantastic term ahead.

A very busy Term 1 in the Arabic, Quran and Religion Department which was full of learning and fun for our students. The morning Quran and afternoon Arabic classes were as popular as ever and spaces had filled fast. Students were eager to memorise and further their understanding of Surah Al Imran through talks, videos and reflection.

The extra afternoon Arabic classes continued to provide students with assistance to complete their Arabic homework and enhance their Arabic language skills. Our students enjoy their time in the extra Quran and Arabic classes and it is a pleasure to see their knowledge increase from week to week.

As the Holy month of Ramadan begins next term, the after school Arabic classes will not take place as students will be dismissed early. However, Quran classes will presume in the mornings in Term 2 and begin in Week 1. Please ensure all forms have been returned to the Accounts Department at the end of this term.

During week 7 and 8 this term, grade 5 students participated in our annual Taharah sessions facilitated by the Primary Religion Department. Students explored the various aspects of Taharah in relation to their growing bodies linked in to maintaining good hygiene and cleanliness as stipulated by our Islamic teachings. It was great to see our students take advantage of these sessions and ask some great questions relating to their day to day maintenance of good personal hygiene. We hope they are able to carry away with them all the practical tips they learnt to impliment in their every day lives.

The performance tasks this term were very impressive with students showing off their talent and creative work. Every term, students from Grade 2-6 complete assessments prior to the end of term to showcase their knowledge and skills in Arabic and Religion. Teachers were exceptionally pleased by our student’s hard work and the effort that went into completing them.

To revise the concepts and prepare for Term 2, students will have Arabic and Religion holiday homework. These activities should not take too much of our students time but rather brush up on their language and Islamic knowledge inshaAllah. This also includes revising learnt surahs and reading the Quran with Tajweed.

We wish you all a joyful and happy holiday and look forward to seeing our dear students, nice and fresh next term, inshaAllah.
