Explore what A&M-Commerce has to offer with a campus tour led by one of our Lion Student Ambassadors. As current students, they take great pride in showing you around campus, and providing an inside look into life in Commerce. Campus tours are offered Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m., and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. (during the fall and spring semesters only). Tours depart from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Visitor Center, located on the 1st floor of the McDowell Administration Building, Room 180.

A&M -Commerce has

William Leonidas Mayo, the
namesake of Lion athletics, still
lives on through his creed
of “ceaseless industry,
fearless investigation,
unfettered thought, and
unselfish service to others.”
1889: The school was founded as East Texas Normal College in Cooper.
1894: The school moved to Commerce when the campus was destroyed by a fire.
1917: The State of Texas purchased the campus, and renamed it East Texas State Normal College.
1923: The name changed to East Texas State Teachers College.
1935: The graduate program was added.
1957: The legislature recognized the university offered more than just teacher education, and changed the name to East Texas State College.
1962: Following the inauguration of the first doctoral program,
the university became East Texas State University.
1996: The university joined the Texas A&M University System, and became Texas A&M University-Commerce.

To be eligible for financial assistance, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Five quick steps to apply for financial aid:1. Apply for a PIN. This will allow you to sign your FAFSA
documents electronically. You and one of your parents need one.
2. Gather the information required to apply:
a. Your and your parents social security information, and
b. Federal tax information or tax returns.
3. Go to www.FAFSA.ed.gov and fill out the application.
4. Provide our school Code 003565.
5. Follow up on your FAFSA, and make sure
everything is being processed correctly.

Transfer Scholarships are available based upon academic achievement, and require the University Scholarship Application. The scholarship deadline is June 1st.
*Students must submit proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership
Scholarship renewal requirements:1. The student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester at A&M-Commerce. 2. Maintain 3.0 minimum semester and cumulative GPA. For additional departmental and general scholarships, fill out the University Scholarship Application.

Residency Requirements
The A&M-Commerce residency requirement stipulates that all single, first-year undergraduate students must reside in university housing (residence halls), and are required to purchase a university meal plan of at least 10 meals per week.
Students who would like to live at home must file a Commuter Authorization Formand be approved to live off-campus.
Traditional halls include double-occupancy rooms (with a private room option), community showers, spacious lounges, and a kitchen.

Pi of Texas Texas A&M Commerce has a firm commitment to Phi Theta Kappa. Pi of Texas, A&M-Commerce’s Alumni Chapter was chartered in 1987. Since that time the chapter has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Most Distinguished Alumni Chapter and the Vista Award in 1993 and 1994.

At A&M-Commerce, students have access to a variety of on-campus services and fun activities geared toward improving students’ lives, including:
Career Services, Computing Services, Counseling Center, Diversity and Cultural Affairs, Greek Life, International Student Services, Student Organizations, and the Synergy Lab.
Students also have access to the Jerry D. Morris Recreation Center. The facilities include an indoor track, basketball and racquetball courts, a 40-foot rock climbing wall, cardio and weight machines, free weights, and an outdoor pool and recreation area. The MRC also offers a variety of group fitness classes, activities and events for students throughout the year.
