2010 will mark a decade since we firstintroduced our Adnams Selection range. Theprinciple behind this, in that we look for winesthat truly represent their provenance and punchabove their weight in terms of both quality andprice, remains unchanged. The source of a fewof the wines has moved over the years butmainly change has come in the form of newadditions like the Rioja and the Tuscan red. This year sees the notable arrival of a newlevel of wines – The Adnams Cellar Selection. The philosophy remains the same but we arelooking at a grander level and these wines weresought out with your dinner party in mind.

Unsurprisingly, we turned to the classic Frenchregions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire and theRhône for two reds and two whites. We are veryproud of this new selection and we hope that youenjoy them as much as we do. We have alsobranched out into areas that we felt related tothe grape and added the Adnams Olive Oil andAdnams Balsamic Vinegar. There will be moredevelopments in the coming year but I amkeeping them under my hat for the moment.Watch this space!

Vignerons since 1946 the Ferratons have been an integral part of the Rhône valleylandscape. In 1986 their friend Michel Chapoutier took an interest in the firm andintroduced organic cultivation in the vineyards. A few years later, under the Chapoutierinfluence, the vineyards were converted wholly to biodynamic cultivation. The Ferratonvineyards extend across many of the most famous appellations of the Rhône valley andresolutely focus on producing the finest quality.

Basa is from Rueda, source of many of Spain’s finest whites, particularlySauvignon. Telmo fights the corner here for local varieties Viura and Verdejo, concedingjust a little Sauvignon for grassy freshness. The succulent result is packed with crisp, cleanflavours of yellow plums and white peaches.

It is the pure expression of varietal character that Paolo achievesthat make his wines notable and this Dolcetto, full of blackcurrant vigour and structuralgrip, just cries out for classic Italian food.

Peachy, ripe and rounded Chardonnay is this value-rich all-around quaffer. Relaxing in thegarden, prawns on the barbecue, roast chicken, all of the above. We hit on the name ‘CanoeTree’ after an Australian visiting Southwold lent us his ‘Pilot Guide to the Murray River’.Wherein we read about resourceful Aborigines who cut shallow oval shapes in riversidetrees and fashioned thick bark canoes.

AW38 2007 Red Earth, Adelaide Plains £7.50

AW22 2007 Juniper Crossing Chardonnay, Margaret River £9.50We have known winemaker Mark Messenger for many years as he crafted his trade inwineries from Hungary via California and back to settle in Australia and Margaret Riverwhere he started. He has what can only be described as a ‘light touch’ and elegance inJuniper wines. This Chardonnay is the perfect example and restores your faith in thisoverused grape.

The raisined intensity of flavour achieved is a uniquetaste and is one of the few sweet wines in the world to stand up to chocolate. The Campbellfamily have been established here since 1870 and are regarded as one of the finestproponents of this style of dessert wine.
