Adobe has validated the deployment of Acrobat 7.0 products with Tivoli Framework 4.1.1 and Configuration Manager 4.2.2 from a Microsoft® Windows® 2000 SP4 Server.

Adobe has validated the deployment of Acrobat 7.0 to desktop client systems running Windows 2000 Professional SP4 and Windows XP Professional SP2. Target Systems must be Tivoli endpoints.

The localized versions tested are English and Japanese. Adobe tested deploying the localized version of the application (for example, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional Japanese) to the localized version of the operating system (for example, Windows XP Professional SP2 Japanese).

Distribution and Installation Overview You can obtain the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Tivoli Software Distribution files from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/deployment.html.

The Adobe Acrobat products are packaged as SPD files. To work with the SPD files, the following steps are involved:

1 Setting up the Adobe Acrobat binaries

2 Customizing installation

3 Creating an Adobe region

4 Creating Adobe software profile managers

5 Creating the distribution profiles

6 Importing the SPD files

7 Adding subscribers

8 Distributing and installing the Adobe Acrobat software

9 Verifying installation

The system requirements for the Acrobat 7 products are located at:

• Acrobat 7.0 Professional www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/systemreqs.html

• Acrobat 7.0 Standard www.adobe.com/products/acrobatstd/systemreqs.html

• Adobe Reader 7.0 www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/acrrsystemreqs.html#70win

• Acrobat 7.0 Elements www.adobe.com/products/acrobatel/systemreqs.html

Setting up the Adobe Acrobat binaries You need to create directories on the local hard drive of the Tivoli server for the following:

\Adobe\AcrobatProfessional

\Adobe\AcrobatStandard

\Adobe\ReaderFull (full version has all Adobe Reader features)

\Adobe\AcrobatElements

Once the directories are created, move the Acrobat binaries to the appropriate directories. The software distribution profile looks for the files in these locations to copy them to the target machines. If the files do not exist in these locations, the distribution fails.

To set up the binaries:

1 Place the installation files for Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional in \Adobe\AcrobatProfessional.

2 Place the installation files for Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard in \Adobe\AcrobatStandard.

3 Place the extracted installation files for Adobe Reader 7.0 in \Adobe\ReaderFull. See instructions for extracting the setup.exe and related files from the web downloads in the InstallShield Tuner 7.0 for Adobe Acrobat user document at: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/deployment.html.

4 Place the installation files for Adobe Acrobat Elements 7.0 in \Adobe\AcrobatElements.

Customizing the Installation You need to modify the Acrobat Installer so that the installation runs without user interaction. For example, you must add the Serial Number and /qn Silent Install Command Line parameter.

You can modify the Acrobat Installer either by modifying the file or by using InstallShield Tuner 7.0 for Adobe Acrobat.

To edit the setup.ini file:

1 Locate the setup.ini file in the appropriate Adobe binary directory.

2 Save a copy of the file for backup.

3 Set the properties of the setup.ini file to Read-Write.

4 Open the file in an ASCII text editor.

5 In the CmdLine parameter, enter the following:

ISX_SERIALNUMBER=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx /qn

where the x’s are the serial number for the corresponding product.

Note: For Reader, just use /qn, since there is no serial number for this product.

6 Save and close the file.

Page 6: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for IBM Tivoli Software Distribution · form: ProductCode={xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} where the x’s are the product code. 3 If the product codes do

4ADOBE ACROBAT 7.0IBM Tivoli Software Distribution

User Guide

You should modify the following files with a serial number and /qn before importing into Tivoli:

C:\Adobe\AcrobatElements\Elements\setup.ini

C:\Adobe\AcrobatStandard\setup.ini

C:\Adobe\AcrobatProfessional\setup.ini

You should modify the following files with a CmdLine=/qn before importing into Tivoli:

C:\Adobe\ReaderFull\setup.ini

C:\Adobe\AcrobatElements\Reader\setup.ini

Using InstallShield Tuner 7.0 for Acrobat Tuner provides a graphical interface to the Acrobat 7.0 Windows Installer that enables you to modify the installer to run without user interaction. In addition, you can cusomize the Acrobat installer and the look and feel of Acrobat prior to deployment. For example, the Updater in Reader and Acrobat is turned on by default. You might want to turn this off for enterprise deployments by using InstallShield Tuner 7.0 for Adobe Acrobat. For more information, see: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/deployment.html.

Software package remove notesTo uninstall, the software package removal executes a command: msiexec /x {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} REBOOT=ReallySupress /qn where the GUID in {} is the product code of the Adobe product to be uninstalled. These product codes have been set for the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (US English, Volume License) released products and might not be valid for other releases. The product code used for installation and uninstallation must match. Review the ProductCode={...} value in the installation setup.ini file and update the appropriate SPD so they match. Use a text editor to make the changes, or see “Modifying execution objects ” in the “Troubleshooting” section. For additional information see .“Uninstalling Adobe Software”

Completing these verification steps helps ensure that future attempts to remotely remove the software package from target systems can occur successfully. To update product codes in the SPD files using a text editor:

1 Open each .SPD file in an ASCII text editor. Find the “during_remove” section containing a line like the following:

/x {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} REBOOT= ReallySupress /qn

where the x’s are the product code.

2 Open the appropriate setup.ini file in an ASCII text editor. Find the line containing the productcode in the form:

ProductCode={xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

where the x’s are the product code.

3 If the product codes do not match, update the SPD file. Save and close the file.

Note: Do not alter the product code in the setup.ini file.

Creating an Adobe Region Creating a policy region for Adobe software provides a place to store all of the Adobe components, and gives you the ability to create a software profile. It is recommended that you make Tivoli database backups before and after significant changes to your Tivoli environments. Refer to your Tivoli documentation for instructions.

Troubleshooting The following section addresses some common problems.

Modifying source and destination directories The Acrobat 7.0 software packages are designed so that files are distributed to c:\windows\temp\Adobe on endpoint systems (this path might vary depending on the setting of the target system temporary directory). The programs to be executed are expected to reside in this directory. If you modify the destination path for the software package, you need to use care in modifying the programs that are invoked by the software package.

Note: Software Package Editor is required. You can perform these steps on an endpoint that the Tivoli Software Package Editor installed.

To modify the source and destination directories:

1 Launch the Software Package Editor.

2 Select Open an Existing Software Package and browse to the location.

3 Change the Files of Type setting to Software Package Definition.

4 Browse to the desired SPD file and select Open.

Modifying execution objects If the source and destination directories are modified, you must also modify the execution objects to match the new destination directories. Be careful to place the correct files in the new source directories. Be aware that when you modify a source directory, the corresponding destination directory is also modified. Make sure the destination directory is in the correct location; otherwise, you need to modify the destination before modifying the execution objects. Make sure that the execution object paths match the new destination directories.

Note: Software Package Editor is required. You can perform these steps on an endpoint that the Tivoli Software Package Editor installed.

To modify an execution object:

1 Launch the Software Package Editor.

2 Select Open an Existing Software Package and browse to the package you want.

3 Change the Files of Type setting to Software Package Definition.

4 Browse to the desired SPD file and select Open.

5 Right-click on the Execute Program object and select properties.

6 Verify the path and update if necessary.

7 Verify the exit codes and update if necessary.

8 Click Advanced.

Known Issues

Known Issue #1179449: Distributing Acrobat products sometimes results in the Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts not being installed correctly on the Tivoli endpoint systems. This is caused when you are distributing your Tivoli package using the System log-in. The result is that shortcuts get incorrectly written to the C:\ root drive. Adobe has made edits to the Adobe-authored SPD file to address this issue. However, these edits do not create a shortcut for the Distiller® application (provided in Acrobat Standard and Professional). The workaround is to write a batch file that creates a Distiller shortcut from acrodist.exe or to manually create a shortcut from acrodist.exe.

Known Issue #1179450: Distributing Acrobat Professional, Acrobat Standard, and Acrobat Elements to Windows XP Tivoli endpoint systems prior to installing Windows XP SP2 can result in the Adobe PDF printer driver failing to be installed. For this reason, the Tivoli software package includes an extra dependency that when deployed to Windows XP, Service Pack 2 must be installed.
