Organic Compound: Saturated Fat
• A fatty acid is an organic compound made up of a long, unbranched carbon backbone that ends with a carboxyl group, or –COOH. A carboxyl group is made up of one carbon atom bonded to an oxygen atom by a double bond, and a hydroxide group made up of an oxygen and hydrogen atom bonded together.
Function of Stearic Acids real family…Saturated Fat
• Saturated fat tends to increase blood cholesterol levels. Most saturated fats tend to be solid at room temperature, with the exception of tropical oils.
• Saturated fats are necessary for calcium to be incorporated into our bones.
• Saturated fats are needed to boost immune function, and to build a healthy nervous system and digestive tract.
What can Stearic acid do?!
• Stearic acid is used as a fragrance ingredient, surfactant and emulsifier.
• It is also used as the base for the manufacture of other fatty acid ingredients which are used as emulsifiers, emollients and lubricants.
• Stearic acid is useful as an ingredient in making candles, plastics, dietary supplements, oil pastels, and cosmetics.
How Stearic Acid makes the perfect child for me…
• Stearic acid would make a good child and would behave because it appears to have a neutral effect on blood total and low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels.
• It would lead me to not have an increase risk for cardiovascular disease.
• Stearic acid is in chocolate and meat, which are not that bad for you!
