Providers looks up ULN or register learners for a ULN either through LRS portal or API

Registering a learner – may include resolving exceptions

Five data items for ULN verification – first name, surname, date of birth, gender, postcode.

Awarding bodies using the ULN to upload qualifications to the PLR within 10 days of award (122 currently uploading qualifications).

Low student awareness - 9% of 2013 UCAS applicants entered a ULN

Exceptions - Scotland, overseas, independent schools, non-funded FE.

Some ULNs received from UCAS. Some Providers store ULN on student record system, some don’t store at all.

Some Providers return ULN to HESA.

Some ask for ULN in registration for particular awards and this is returned to the awarding body.
